Bird watching with the little boys . We managed a family outing to Golden Acre Park and Adel Dam with all 4 boys and mum on the inset day. . Seeing birds up close for the first time and having a peek through my binoculars were big highlights. . I love showing kids nature. If you can't name it, you're not going to know when it's gone. . Biodiversity loss, habitat loss and climate change has led to species loss across the board. Great Spotted Woodpecker, Adel Dam @yorkshirewildlifetrust_ Fieldfare, Beningbrough Hall, York @nationaltrust Waxwing, Woodside, Bradford Minke Whale, Staithes @northyorkmoors . Only our second ever year tracking what wildlife we’ve seen and where and we have managed to beat 2022’s numbers (152 total with 121 of those in Yorkshire). Our holiday to the Highlands and Isle of Skye boosted the numbers to include a lot of things we wouldn’t otherwise have seen, with the 2023 total 164…but of those a staggering 1️⃣3️⃣7️⃣ were clocked inside Yorkshire!! . As well as what we managed to snap there’s a lot of wildlife that is just fleeting encounters. The highlight being having an OTTER walk in front of the car near Cottingley. Seeing an otter in Bradford is something we never thought would happen in our lifetimes. N U T H A T C H Not anything like the shots I’d hoped to get this week as my trip to @yorkshire_photography_hides had to be canned at the last minute because my wife got Covid! 🐦 • NUTHATCH • One of the best parts of the marsh hide at Adel Dam Nature Reserve is the feeding areas to the hide’s right. Here, the frame for the feeders has some slightly more natural texture to it, which is also perfect for the nuthatches to cling onto, unlike the smoother frame of the other feeding area which is much smoother. 🐦 • ADEL DAM ROBIN • Adel Dam Nature Reserve is a great spot on the outskirts of Leeds for watching wildlife. There’s a couple of hides to enjoy too, although I wouldn’t say either is particularly well set up for photographers. They are both too high, and the perching posts for the birds are too close to their backgrounds, all making it difficult to achieve a blurred background.
