February, 2021 _ It makes sense to start with a behind the scenes shot of what is my all time favourite photo. Captured on my trusty Canon R and 16-35 2.8 combo, this was the test shot to see if I could make world line up in the way I had envisaged prior to attempt to capture the image using my 85mm. ACCLIMATIZATION HIKE 🇬🇧[English below] Kurze Zeit nach unserer Ankunft am Base Camp machen wir uns auf zu einer Wanderung, zur Höhenanpassung. In der Gegend sieht man grüne Hügel, einige Flüsse und Wasserfälle. Die Region ist außerdem bekannt für ihre Vorkommen an natürlichem Mineralwasser. Während einer Pause füllen wir unsere Flaschen an einer natürlichen Quelle. Die Menschen hier in der Region glauben, dass es gesundheitsfördernd ist. Der Geschmack war interessant, aber um ehrlich zu sein, verspüre ich keinen Drang, mehr davon zu trinken. Nach einer Pause an einem riesigen Wasserfall machen wir uns auf den Weg zurück zum Base Camp. Shortly after we arrived in the basecamp we went for an easy acclimatization hike. The region consists of green hills, lots of rivers and waterfalls. It’s also famous for its natural occurrence of mineral water. We had a short break at a mineral water source and filled our bottles with it. People in the region believe it is very healthy. It was interesting to taste it, but honestly I didn’t feel any desire to have more in the future. The difference a year can make. _ Back in early March of last year I quite clearly remember experiencing a feeling that would lead to a change in my life that has seen me change things for the better. While bending down to help stoke the campfire I began to felt like I was unable to breathe properly and the action of getting up made me feel light headed, I wasn’t having a medical event or anything of the sort but I was suffering the consequences of being severely overweight. Throughout my life I’ve always been a bigger bloke who has struggled to maintain a healthy lifestyle but this was the moment that would kick me into gear. One year later and 60 kilograms lighter, I’ve now successfully undertaken my first running event where I finished ahead of my goal time, running non-stop for the entire duration. To think that I only began running some 7 weeks earlier after months on a journey that has well and truly turned my life around. Today, I share this with you, not as a brag, but as someone who is incredibly proud of how I’ve managed to turn things around after 30 years of struggle. Kalalau Trail Photo Dump 📸 I did this epic adventure back in October, and then I returned to real life which got real hectic there for a few months and I realized I never really posted pictures of it all! Photo breakdown 🕺 1: views on the trail (it looked like that THE whole way!) 2: Us at the trailhead as fresh baby hikers who were blissfully unaware of what we were about to endure 😅 3. Goats! So many goats! They were cute but they were lil’ assholes who kicked rocks down on us on a very narrow part of the trail. 4. Me having a slight panic attack on Crawlers Ledge 5. The trail sign that made us think we were there. We were, in fact, not there yet. 6. Our campsite on the beach 7. Filtering water in the waterfall near the beach 8. Us at the end of the hike wearing the exact same thing because we were already so stinky smelly anyway 9. Initially, our path led us through an endless forest, where the air was warm and as thick as the foliage that cloaked our way. Treading upon the forest's carpet, our hearts yearned for a glimpse of something beyond. But lo! Suddenly the forest surrendered to a realm of stone and frost. There, amidst the rocky crags and the lingering mist, we found ourselves in a land forgotten by time. Each step forward was a challenge against the cold and treacherous ice underfoot. As we drew nearer to our sanctuary, the legendary refuge of Otto Meiling, the land transformed once more. Полет пингвинов ⠀ Как правило, пингвины летают невысоко над поверхностью воды. Под водой субантарктический пингвин плавает быстрее всех других морских птиц: скрываясь от леопарда, он может разгоняться почти до сорока километров в час. Любой птице такой скорости достаточно, чтобы парить в небе! «Крейсерская» же скорость пингвинов, конечно, гораздо ниже, и они «дельфинят» (как еще перевести «to porpoise»?) — плывут близко к поверхности и каждую секунду выпрыгивают из воды, чтобы обезопасить себя от леопардов и косаток.

Эти птицы прекрасно уживаются вместе: у них схожий образ жизни, они не вредят друг другу, и более того, у них есть общий неприятель — поморники, которые портят жизнь и тем, и другим. Поэтому часто можно встретить базары, в которых бакланы и пингвины живут «этническими группами» по краям, а в середине перемешиваются.
