For Trail Tuesday, we're hiking in the brand new Vosburg Neck State Park. This is the exit point of the Vista Trail if you take the loop clockwise, and other than missing an actual "vista," it's a nice trail. #vosburgneckstatepark #trailtuesday #vista

Our dry feet didn’t last long. Straight into an underground river crossing as soon as we finished breakfast! As we head for the exit of Hang En cave to follow the river system to Son Doong cave, I looked up thinking this looks like a portal to a prehistoric world.. 🦕 That’s the attraction with caving, you always want to know what’s waiting for you around the bend. #traveltuesday

7 DAYS BIKING ACROSS ESWATINI // Formerly named Swaziland, the Kingdom of Eswatini is a small, relaxed and intriguing country that borders South Africa. It’s the only absolute monarchy in Africa, which means the king/queen has absolute power, and is in no way restricted. 🇸🇿 Our first impression of the country was watching a “cultural competition”. Troops of 20 men were dressed in feathery, tribal attire and performing what appeared to be warrior style displays, complete with vigorous foot-stomping, scissor kicks, death drops, and call-and-response singing. These performances got us excited for what was to come! 🥁 The country is beautiful, with big boulders strewn everywhere, lush greenery, and rivers with seriously impressive rapids. There are both lower and higher-lying areas, which results in a broad range of plant and animal species - despite its size, it packs a punch! You can find the “Big 5” in the national parks here: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos & buffalos. 🐘 We found the dirt road riding to be very pleasant. There was almost exclusively foot traffic on them, which led to many broken conversations with locals. ⛰️ The tone of Eswatini was different to neighbouring countries. The people were often quiet and reserved, and unusually, the school children didn’t seem interested in us. That said, pockets of the country had clearly received a lot of international aid; you know you’re in these areas as people will constantly ask you for your money, your phone, and even your bike! 🚲

I’m not sure that I’ll ever get over these colors. The Rainbow Mountain/Vinicunca in Peru is one of the most beautiful but also intriguing places we’ve visited. It was recently popularized between 2012- 2015 when snow melted and revealed all the colors hiding underneath. I think social media made it as popular and commercialized as it is now & im grateful for it as we wouldn’t have been able to visit it otherwise! It’s about 3-4 hours away from Cusco and the altitude was higher than we have other experienced or hiked at, at 17,100 ft above sea level at our final destination. We did this as our last adventure after the Salkantay trek and luckily had acclimated pretty well which made it much easier than our other hikes. It was about 3 miles round trip with ~800 ft of elevation gain but the views throughout and at the end were worth it! We were lucky that there was no rain and the colors really were this vivid! . . . . . . . . . #rainbowmountain #visitcusco #visitperu #alltrails #optoutside #peoplewhoadventure #amongthewild #sheexplores #outdoortones #womenwhoexplore #stayandwander #ourdailyplanet #outdoorwomen #womenwhohike #optoutside #girlswhohike #sheisthewild #girlswhowander #letsgosomewhere #finditliveit #mytinyatlas #doyoutravel #chasinglight #hiking #doingthings #sonyalpha #sonyalphafemale

Part 16: I gave up the day after. As I have previously mentioned, I had basically been pushing the bike for three days and it was difficult to cover more than twenty kilometers during daylight hours. At that pace, I would never make it out of the country in time, and I didn't even want to think about the bureaucratic measures that would be required to handle a potential Over Stay in Angola. When the first vehicle from the west in three days appeared behind me, caught up, and offered a ride, I therefore said yes. The driver, who had worked and lived in South Africa, spoke good English and said "we can't leave you out here, man" and together with his two companions, they lifted the bike onto the truck bed. I wasn't entirely happy with that solution but still felt that it was the right thing to do. The truck struggled through the sand and we covered about twenty kilometers every hour. On regular roads, I cycle faster. About fifteen kilometers west of Luena, the capital of Moxico province, I asked to be dropped off. It was getting dark and I didn't want to enter the city late at night. Instead, I set up my tent in the bush, ate some licorice, and listened to another chapter of "A Feast for Crows." The next day, I made my way into Luena and cheered when the asphalt started on the outskirts of the city. But just a few minutes later, a sleek gray car of a somewhat expensive brand stopped next to me. The window on the passenger side was rolled down. It was a couple of Commisario Dias do Nascimento Fernando Costa's henchmen waiting for me. He was the highest-ranking police officer in the province, and we would have a lot to do with each other in the next twenty-four hours. Any questions? ___________ #peoplewhoadventure #cycletouring #gravelbike #adventurebybike #travelbybike #rideyourbike #adventuretravel #slowtravel #bikepackingadventures #fromwhereiride #gravelgrinder #bikepacker #roadslikethese #bicycle #instatravel #cyclinglife #cycling #igerscycling #fatbike #strava #vélo #bikewander #travelgrams #wanderlust #bikepacking #cyclingshots #igercycling

Mozambique 🇲🇿 Country number 17 by bike, and our 5th country in Africa! We will be mostly on paved roads because, well there is really only one road that you can bike in the country. All of the other roads are too sandy. We will spend about a month following the coast north before turning to Zimbabwe. There will be a lot of time spent at beaches, eating delicious food, and drinking a lot of coca-cola.🤘

Today marked a little personal achievement of mine by summiting my 250th overall unique P2K. I started focusing on these prominent peaks going on 6 years ago, and I’ve been fortunate to share this experience with others that also share a passion for being in the mountains. Now that summer is fast approaching, my goal may be to finish out the year at 300. 🏔️ here’s to hoping I can continue sharing experiences with others that also suffer from summit fever! 📍Quinn Peak, Jackson Mountains HP, Nevada - Clean Prominence: 4863’ - 1988 register note: “Highest peak in the Jackson Range. I travelled about 50,000 steps through the Grand Canyon on Saturday. We hiked Rim to River - down South Kaibab, stopped for lunch in Phantom Ranch, then back up Bright Angel. We couldn’t have planned for better weather. It snowed the day before and was partly cloudy and overcast during our entire hike. My last pic is a video of the snowstorm I drove up in Friday afternoon. My best friends all say that I can appreciate the little things in life. When I look at this picture, I know exactly what they mean. Prepare delicious coffee in the morning with fresh organic coffee beans that I grind by hand. Then find a nice spot during a long hike and grab my coffee while enjoying the view. I can sit for hours. What a day for it…! Haven’t been up to Crown Peak for some time and it didn’t disappoint! The views over Queenstown, Arrowtown and the Cardrona Valley were breathtaking. I’m not going to deny, there was a fair bit of huffing and puffing on the ascent and my quads are still tight tonight after the long descent - but it was totally worth it! Six months in South Africa, 2,500 miles biked, and 2,000 miles of road tripping through the country. South Africa was one of my favorite counties to cycle. There was so much to see and do that we only cycled 50% of the time! Highlights included: exploring the unique plants of Richtersveld NP, cycling along endless dirt road networks, a weeks of safari drives in Kruger National Park, amazing hikes in every corner, exploring the culinary delights of Cape Town, the friendly local people, camping in vast deserts, penguins, and taking dips in secluded swimming holes. Thanks especially to @a.whale.away without his guidance South Africa would have been a lot less adventurous. If you’re thinking of riding there he has published 4 amazing routes on bikepacking .com snaking through South Africa and Namibia.

Sharing the road with a legend. Lawrence rides his single speed bike that doesn’t have brakes 100 km every weekend from where he works in South Africa to visit his family in Eswatini. Each weekend spends about as much time awake with his family as he does riding to and from home. We were lucky enough to run into him for the last bit of his ride. We talked about his life philosophy, why he loves cycling, and the highs and lows of being from Eswatini. It’s always inspiring to meet people that also love traveling by bike, but doing it in different ways. There are plenty of buses that Lawrence could take home, he loves cycling, and saving money on the bus fair doesn’t hurt either. Lawrence was just one of the many incredibly kind and welcoming people we met in Eswatini. As we leave the country it will stay with my as the country with the kindest people.

The Doc is conducting short-term studies on the areas of pain, stress, sleep and digestion. She is seeing tremendous results in these 5 day studies. 🤩 This pain study participant told us “ I felt immediate relief to my muscle, like loosening a belt after eating a large dinner. I felt the cool sensation penetrating the skin. And the scent of the rub and oil were soothing as well. ( felt like an indirect form of relaxation). “ Who do you know that would like to learn how natural solutions can impact their body in the areas of pain, stress, sleep and digestion in a short period of time ? The Doc has 2 more study weeks in May. Spots are available, but filling fast. Snow in the desert? Yes, please! Picture this: I head to the Grand Canyon in April, expecting a warm getaway. Traveling light as always, I had no winter gear on hand. But as I woke up in my cozy camper, a chill filled the air, and the sound outside was oddly muted. And then it hit me: snow day! I snapped a quick pic of my snowy car in my shorts before rushing back to the Grand Canyon. Battling the icy wind, I layered up like a walking closet to soak in the breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon. Freezing but totally worth it! What’s your coolest travel memory? WE BIKED FOR 6 MONTHS IN SOUTH AFRICA 🥳 Let’s discuss the country's reputation for crime… Yes, it’s here, and yes, it can be dangerous. The good news is that crime is confined to localised areas, making it easy to avoid. As a result, we were never threatened or robbed and felt safe 99.99% of the time. Small towns are usually quite safe, but cities contain lots of roads and suburbs to avoid. Make sure to ask the local people where to go, and where to avoid, and it’s unlikely you’ll have any problems. 👍🏻 The off-road biking adventures in the country feel endless. There are dirt tracks in every direction and the backdrops are unbelievably dramatic! We couldn’t believe the places we got to bike and camp through - it was a new adventure every day. 💎 South Africa is home to some of the most pristine environments on Earth, and the national parks are truly epic places. Kruger is famous for a reason: the sheer scale, raw beauty, and diversity of animals are incredible. But the dozen other NPs we visited were virtually as good, including Table Mountain! If you want your mind blown by rare plants and their unique adaptations, visit Richtersveld, the only arid biodiversity hotspot on earth! If you’re into good food and wine, you will be in heaven in South Africa. The region around Cape Town is where to take your taste buds on a date - it’s a foodie's dream. The best wines we sampled were in Stellenbosch. Don’t miss a trip to Lesotho, the landlocked country in South Africa, as it has a completely different culture and traditions. The entire country is at altitude, with great views everywhere, and the Basotho people ride around on horses wearing blankets! What’s not to like? And lastly, South Africa has a dark history that is worth understanding. We honestly couldn’t believe the depths of the institutionalised racial segregation that ended just 30 years ago. You will still find that racism permeates society, with many kindhearted, well-meaning locals completely clueless about their racism. But it’s best to remind yourself of the beliefs these people were taught from a young age - if this was your worldview for a long time, you too might still think this way. 🤷‍♂️
