Today is the first day in over 6 days that I could get out of bed due to pain. The cause - my first post-op consult with my surgeon, removing the heavy plaster cast and doing a clean up of my foot. Good news is everything is healing well and going to plan. It is critical for my recovery to hobble my way outside and soak up the sun and get some fresh oxygen flowing and vitamin D for depression. I may have missed the end of summer but this is the long game so I can get back to tramping, camping, work and all the things I love doing. Birthday Hike - Part 2: The sign definitely did not lie🤣 I had read the hike was challenging and from what we’d done so far I was starting to assume they had over reacted … they hadn’t😆 there were some super steep parts, lots of scrabbling and like I said in my story - Dafro did a great job of getting through the fear and making it down and up😁 we def got lost but with the help of another couple of girls doing the walk, got back on track and after some trial and error managed to fjnd ‘the two boulders to climb under and the creek to wade through’. Taranaki I'm coming for you - once I recover from surgery of course. I picked this tshirt out especially for you 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 The summit was a November/December 2023 goal that I was on track for prior to tearing all the ligaments and tendons in my ankle mid 2022. Fast forward through a multitude of specialist and physio appointments and 10 months in a moonboot - I have surgery booked 28th February. The unfortunate long delay in critical healthcare means I now get a more intense, more things chopped up, rethreaded, reattached, detached, drilled out and pins and screws to fix the issue. 6 weeks no weight bearing in plaster, 6 more weeks of moonboot paradise and the best part of 12 months to rehab and relearn how to walk. So 2024 December is the new goal to summit this peak. Can it be achieved? I'm going to give it a good go. Goals provide hope in the presence of the scary what ifs.
