A professor buys a seemingly too-good-to-be-true house from an older widow. Sure, Peter Dinklage and Shirley MacLaine are fine. And sure, one of us laughed at a few scenes. But that's about all the positives we have. And one of us hated it. We had issues with the supporting performances, slow pacing, and terrible writing. Then we all (Evan, Megan, and Dave) review DAMSEL, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's fantasy starring Millie Bobby Brown as a determined princess who faces a dragon after some marital subterfuge. We all enjoyed the film. Following an uneven opening, we thought it pulled together due to the clever survival plot elements, Millie Bobby Brown's solid performance, good supporting performances by Robin Wright and Angela Bassett, Shohreh Aghdashloo's excellent voice acting as the dragon, and fairy tale subversions. We also talk about the film's similarities to THE PRINCESS.
