So is the rest of the album, yay! 👑 Now, it's down to my studio work. Mixing, cleaning, probably adding(or removing) some parts and finally mastering and distribution. Then there's the boring office work. A&R, publishing on all platforms, promoting etc. As long as it's for the purpose of finishing up a very personal and massive project of mine, this very one, I'll do my very best in that department too. It's my music .. it's what becomes when I get behind the drums, or play a little bass, keys or guitar .. maybe singing. Or put me in front of a looper. I'll go on for hours if it's a good session. It's contemporary music, my references comes from all over the musical map, and from practising different instruments. The biggest challenge for me now is to learn how to play my built in windpipe, my voice. I'm singing on a couple of songs, and where drums have become a dear friend I'm slowly mastering how to play, with the natural confidence that comes with it, my singing is what makes me doubt some of my stuff. Still, it's my voice and my music. They kind of fit together in some way and confidence grows for every new attempt. So, I hope you enjoy my new single. It's rock, it's dub, it's hip-hop, it's a dash Latin. Probably some Sæverud and Grieg or hardingfele in there also. And Abba. They had a killer rythm section. 'Something Lurking/Sinister Dub' - TheOnlyAre - I just officially released this music piece on SoundCloud. I do everything myself, not because I don't like what other people do, or don't trust others to perform as good as or better than me, but because I can. For now. It's a lot of work, from the first spark of an idea, then holding on to and developing that spark into a written project description without losing the 'freshness' of it, that means no shortcuts, they tend to lead you into old habits and things already done, so spending the time necessary to make something unique you'll still stand for and be proud of in ten years time is an absolute must. That means taking breaks, leaving it for a week or even worse, the "midway in the project realising it's never gonna happen cos it was a crap disaster idea". Which is a good thing. But that insight takes time and some distance to your own idea. I've done this a long time now, and that wisdom comes from failing monumentally over and over again. In the end you adapt and change your ways. If not, you stagnate, lose all confidence and disappear into thin air. I know that feeling, see .. it hurts 🤞 So, composing, playing, recording, producing, making CoverArt, maybe a video, releasing, distributing and promoting all becomes your job. Then there's your ownership rights, to the music, merch, art and if you do gigs you want to be paid. Pheew! The pictures show some of the parts I chose in the creative process of making the projects CoverArt A camera, a blue IKEA bag, a tablecurlingboard target, add a lot of editing and there you go. It took me the best part of a day that. I know nothing really, but I'm still learning, that's the key to success someone told me. And keep it simple if you can. 'InTheGutter' - TheonlyAre - It is! Literally, it's the gutter. Before Christmas, I went to the big market at Torvet (the main square in Trondheim). They had really made an effort this year, lots of stalls as usual, selling whatnot and with a new main attraction, a giant ferris wheel, lights blinking, and of course a line of people waiting to have their turn in the wheel. Success! If you go for the bigger, better, brighter mentality, that is. Me? I kind of like the cozy and down-to-earth vibe of Christmas, but hey, I'm all for a bit of glitter and lights for the kids, especially at Christmas time. Well done, market people. - My #eyes started #wandering though, you can only take so many #pictures of a wheel, I noticed the tiles chosen to #decorate the #square and realized they are not only beautiful, they are functional as well. Some form #drainage patterns to lead water away, just like a gutter .. and just like a gutter, parts of them were really #dirty .. I see beauty though, when taken completely out of context, the gutter becomes #art to me. 'Trondheim 17.02.2022' - TheonlyAre - Picking up my son Nicholas and his girlfriend Elsie today, we had things to do. They live across town on the southside of Trondheim - a hill area called Lundåsen. Down by the fjord where I live we have 10 cm of snow .. where as they have .. as you can see in the picture .. a meter or 2! That's what a little difference in altitude does to your average winter 🙌😁 Anyway we had a great time together, I'm so grateful for their company. Fortalt av dem som opplevde dem " I dag kom den 4 episoder lange podcasten om Snøskredet i Vassdalen. I fjor sommer ble jeg intervjuet av NRK med bakgrunn i min historie fra Vassdalen som først ble kjent i fjor da avisa NyeTroms publiserte den. Orker dessverre ikke høre alle episodene selv, har prøvd, men denne jævelen har satt seg så hardt fast i meg at kroppen og hodet nekter å forholde seg til det jeg hører .. snørr, tårer, sinne og et indre kaos av følelser jeg bare ikke orker å kjenne på.. og det etter snart 40 år... I episode 3 hører du meg fortelle om min opplevelse. Hele historien er mye sterkere enn jeg trodde .. blir så satt ut av alle menneskene som ble berørt og hvor mye det var som gikk galt. Og hør på stemmene til de som forteller, selv på radio hører du at de er preget de også .. det går aldri helt vekk .. det blir aldri helt bra .. men det er godt å fortelle, så er ihvertfall historien fortalt av oss som var der, vi fikk nemlig munnkurv hele gjengen etterpå. The obvious would be to turn every light and heater off .. 3 minute showers instead of 10 etc .. ? Done most of that already, I had to think outside the electrical grid box ... What did people do before power was installed into our homes & lives? A fire? No oven for burning wood here ... A fire on the kitchen floor or something seems a little extreme? Then it occurred to me .. oil-lamps were popular in the 80s and 90s, didn't we buy a replica ancient one as a souvenir on a vacation somewhere sometime? Found it! And it's not a #souvenir .. it works very well .. burns for #hours .. cheap fuel .. almost any kind of #oil will do, that's why this design was so popular and spread out all over .. this #lamp made people able to work even at night, not much heat, but that flame sure gives you that cozy feeling .. and more importantly .. hope !
