While I’ve always loved looking at the forest floor everywhere I’ve lived the subarctic has been the most fascinating. It is teeming with plant and fungal life. Yesterday we went 2+hrs north and while there is still a lot of snow in some places other areas are almost completely snow free. You can be snow free in one spot and walk 100ft and there’ll be quite the snowpack. Life in the snow free areas is rapidly coming back. I found these little cup lichens, some beautiful moss, and the tussocks have flowers. Saw other lichens and mosses that I didn’t photo.
