"Doodle of the Year" - TheOnlyAre (Ink on paper-notebook doodle) - So, Yesterday, I sat down to try finishing the lyrics I needed for one of my songs. I felt good about it and had an idea to pursue. Let's just say I was inspired. 3 hours later ... this abstract doodle was the result. π The song title is under the Ink there somewhere, I managed that at least before I started doodling. Story of my life, in school, at work, anywhere. I've always doodled. Since I'm adhd, I hyperfocus when I really get into some task or random point of interest. To the extremes sometimes. Or, if the task or random activity doesn't really interest me all that much ... my mind drifts into doing something like this. At work, this can be sort of a negative quality - as an independent artist, it's all good. It's part of who I am. I never knew the result beforehand. No plan, just random artwork. When you've hyperfocused for 3 hours, it's because you enjoy what you're doing. Isn't that what life is all about? Enjoying it? 'A Summer' - TheOnlyAre - #Summer has been #good to me this year A relative #harmony has somehow snuck into #life - I should've known, I've been asking for it - and now that it's here I'm baffled and totally unprepared - I know how to cope with rough times - I've had my share and of course I expect some of that in the future as well - but how do I handle this feeling of happiness and the mental surplus that autogenerates when you get your valuable #rest and have a meaningful #existence? You tell me, so far I'm just enjoying every minute of the #peace & stability I've been wanting for so long. I breathe - I see - I learn & I'm truly #grateful for #receiving, being alive taking care of myself & still kicking right now. I feel safe knowing that problems are not part of life any longer. There will be (what I now call) challenges to overcome, it should be, it's all part of the balance of good and bad. It's my outlook on life & being human that has changed. After years of not having been properly connected to the who and the human I am, finally, I am in me again getting to know myself properly. I'm back. Not scared of my own #fears and imperfections. 'Romsdal - Rauma' - TheOnlyAre π« - Spending some time in Romsdal helping out restauring a very old house. In the nick of time, it was about to collapse completely. The ground floor had no floor, and the bearings where rotting away. My job is to see too the drainage issue. Which means a lot of digging, and a lot of rocks and mud. Plus sore back and arm muscles obviously, I don't dig ditches on a daily basis, no wonder. It's all good though, I need a workout. Makes me kind of happy, the house has been in our family for generations, it was built in 1735 and now maybe a few generations more can enjoy it. And the scenery? So is the rest of the album, yay! π Now, it's down to my studio work. Mixing, cleaning, probably adding(or removing) some parts and finally mastering and distribution. Then there's the boring office work. A&R, publishing on all platforms, promoting etc. As long as it's for the purpose of finishing up a very personal and massive project of mine, this very one, I'll do my very best in that department too. It's my music .. it's what becomes when I get behind the drums, or play a little bass, keys or guitar .. maybe singing. Or put me in front of a looper. I'll go on for hours if it's a good session. It's contemporary music, my references comes from all over the musical map, and from practising different instruments. The biggest challenge for me now is to learn how to play my built in windpipe, my voice. I'm singing on a couple of songs, and where drums have become a dear friend I'm slowly mastering how to play, with the natural confidence that comes with it, my singing is what makes me doubt some of my stuff. Still, it's my voice and my music. They kind of fit together in some way and confidence grows for every new attempt. So, I hope you enjoy my new single. It's rock, it's dub, it's hip-hop, it's a dash Latin. Probably some SΓ¦verud and Grieg or hardingfele in there also. And Abba. They had a killer rythm section. 'Something Lurking/Sinister Dub' - TheOnlyAre - I just officially released this music piece on SoundCloud. I do everything myself, not because I don't like what other people do, or don't trust others to perform as good as or better than me, but because I can. For now. It's a lot of work, from the first spark of an idea, then holding on to and developing that spark into a written project description without losing the 'freshness' of it, that means no shortcuts, they tend to lead you into old habits and things already done, so spending the time necessary to make something unique you'll still stand for and be proud of in ten years time is an absolute must. That means taking breaks, leaving it for a week or even worse, the "midway in the project realising it's never gonna happen cos it was a crap disaster idea". Which is a good thing. But that insight takes time and some distance to your own idea. I've done this a long time now, and that wisdom comes from failing monumentally over and over again. In the end you adapt and change your ways. If not, you stagnate, lose all confidence and disappear into thin air. I know that feeling, see .. it hurts π€ So, composing, playing, recording, producing, making CoverArt, maybe a video, releasing, distributing and promoting all becomes your job. Then there's your ownership rights, to the music, merch, art and if you do gigs you want to be paid. Pheew! The pictures show some of the parts I chose in the creative process of making the projects CoverArt A camera, a blue IKEA bag, a tablecurlingboard target, add a lot of editing and there you go. It took me the best part of a day that. I know nothing really, but I'm still learning, that's the key to success someone told me. And keep it simple if you can. 'Inbetween Trees' - TheonlyAre - The #magic of #opticalillusions might be an acquired taste for some .. as a child I didn't like the #dark but wasn't afraid of it. It made me curious about the power of #light and how objects appear different when light fades or change direction... Like people long before me .. and before science came around, people told stories about #scary #forests and creatures .. trees coming alive - #trolls - unicorns - #elves (and many more) were created - #people need an explanation when they don't understand - they did a good job, all of the above mentioned #fantasy #creatures and events are still around and kicking - despite #science It's a good example of how people in need create an explanation to communicate to fellow men how #scared or #excited they were. A horse with a long spear coming out of its forehead? Even I would be scared if I didn't know. That's why there are no #fairytales of #fear or #anxiety. Trolls and #unicorns wins new #hearts every day and every time an old story is read or told again, because we imagine them ourselves to our liking - my unicorn isn't pink at all - it's just a #horse π with a #whales #spear - why not? Yours may be pink and have spots - that's the beauty of it all - anything goes Science explained why and how these bad feelings are a part of being #human, but still .. it's a bit #clinical and gives little or no room for that personal touch of interpretation I prefer a well made up and #fantastic #story any day .. just #imagine .. what you could find #inbeetwen #trees .. #theonlyare
