Após o treinamento militar básico, recebi minha qualificação de vôo e em abril de 1940, fui transferido para a Escola de Pilotos de Caça nº 2 em Magdeburg South. Nosso principal avião de treinamento foi o Arado 58, após o qual, em preparação para o Me 109, voamos o Me 108. Em novembro de 1940, fui destacado para o Gruppe substituto de treinamento do JG 77, com sede em Bordeaux. Foi onde conheci meu futuro Líder de Esquadrão, Heinrich Setz, pela primeira vez; ele iria deixar uma impressão profunda em mim. Fizemos patrulhas ao longo da costa oeste da França até que, no início de 1941, fomos transferidos para a Áustria. Em Junho de 1941, operando a partir de muitos aeródromos diferentes na Roménia, realizámos operações de apoio à Campanha Russa, geralmente como escoltas para os nossos bombardeiros e Stukas. Também atacamos concentrações de tropas russas e voámos em missões de “caça livre”. Finalmente abati minha primeira aeronave em 8 de agosto de 1941 e, no final do ano, havia abatido 24. No início de 1942, deixamos brevemente a Frente em direção à área de Viena para nos convertermos para o Me 109F e depois retornamos. para operações no Setor Sul e Centro. O meu sucesso pessoal foi reconhecido no dia 1 de Julho com a atribuição da Cruz de Cavaleiro, após 53 vitórias. No curto período que se seguiu, consegui mais 29 vitórias até que, no dia 23, fui ferido e hospitalizado. Retornando à Frente em setembro de 1942, abati outras 16 aeronaves e ultrapassei a marca de 100 vitórias, pela qual fui condecorado com as Folhas de Carvalho da Cruz de Cavaleiro. German fighter bomber Messerschmitt Bf-110. Messerschmitt Bf 110, often known unofficially as the Me 110, is a twin-engined Zerstörer (destroyer, heavy fighter), fighter-bomber (Jagdbomber or Jabo) and night fighter (Nachtjäger) developed in Nazi Germany in the 1930s and used by the Luftwaffe during World War II. Hermann Göring was a supporter of the Bf 110, believing that its heavy armament, speed and range would make the Bf 110 the Luftwaffe's main offensive fighter. Early variants were armed with two 20 mm MG FF cannons, four 7.92 mm (0.312 in) MG 17 machine guns, and one 7.92 mm (0.312 in) MG 15 machine gun for defense (later variants would replace the MG FFs per MG 151 and the rear artillery station would be armed with the double-barreled MG 81Z). Development work on an improved type to replace the Bf 110 – the Messerschmitt Me 210 – began before the start of the war, but its extortion problems resulted in the Bf 110 enduring until the end of the war in several roles. Its intended replacements, the aforementioned Me 210 and the significantly improved Me 410 Hornisse, never fully replaced the Bf 110. During the war, the Bf-110 was operated by several countries, mainly by the Axis, such as Italy, Romania, Hungary, Romania, Croatia and Iraq. The United Kingdom and the Soviet Union even operated some captured units. On May 10th 1941 Rudolf Hess flew solo to Scotland. When he got low on fuel he bailed out (Hess' Destroyed plane Messerschmitt Bf110 On the right) In an attempt to negotiate the United Kingdom's exit from the Second World War. With peace proposals, demanding a free hand for Germany in Europe and the return of former German colonies as compensation for Germany’s promise to respect the integrity of the British Empire. Hess’s proposals met with no response from the British government, which treated him as a prisoner of war and held him throughout World War II. Eventually convicted of crimes against peace. Alimentados pelas mais recentes variantes aprimoradas e muitas vezes com maior potência do motor DB 605 e em sua maioria desarmados, esses Gustavs de reconhecimento eram equipados com Rustsätze compreendendo as instalações de câmera RB 12.5/7 ou RB 32/7 antes do aparecimento do G dedicado, o G-8 variante de reconhecimento, foram colocados nos pontos quentes do teatro europeu. Uma dessas unidades foi a I./NAG 12 estabelecida em Herzogenaurach, no sul da Alemanha, durante a primavera de 1943. As quinze aeronaves da 2ª Staffel desta unidade foram enviadas para os Bálcãs no outono de 1943 e foram inicialmente baseadas no campo de Berat (sudoeste de Tirana) de onde realizaram missões sozinhos ou com Rotte (dois caças). Messerschmitt Bf110G-4/R6 W/NR.730301 The probable construction date of the Bf110 was 1944. Of the 6150 Bf-110 aircraft built, 1525 were delivered in 1944. This particular aircraft is fitted with FuG220b Liechtenstein SN-2 radar - the G-series being specially developed as night fighters. It was surrendered to the allies at Grove airfield, Denmark in May 1945. Coded D5 + RL, the aircraft had latterly served with 1/NJG3 in the night defence of Denmark and Northern Germany. It was one of five Bf110s that were allocated to the Air Ministry for evaluation. On the 1st of August 1945, it was ferried from Grove to Schleswig, Northern Germany, by Sqn Ldr Ian Somerville. Schleswig hosted a Royal Aircraft Establishment outpost to co-ordinate the delivery of selected German aircraft to Schleswig for overhaul and delivery to the UK for evaluation. On the 3rd, it was ferried from Schleswig to RAE Farnborough by Sqn Ldr Joe McCarthy. Two days later, it was ferried from Farnborough to No.6 MU Brize Norton (Aircraft Storage Unit) by Lt Cdr E M `Winkle' Brown. Brize Norton was selected as the main storage unit for German aircraft received in the UK. Brown stated that the Bf110's controls were light and well harmonised, the aeroplane very manoeuvrable and the rate of climb excellent. In May 1946, it was selected for long-term preservation by the Air Ministry Air Historical Branch (AHB). It was passed around a number of units, making several static display appearances, including Battle of Britain Day at RAF Biggin Hill in September 1960. Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-4 Werk Nr. 730301 Night Fighter. This aircraft is displayed at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon, A G-series night fighter, it was likely built in 1944. It served with Nachtjagdgeschwader 3, the unit responsible for the night air defence of Denmark and North Germany until Germany’s surrender in May 1945. It was one of five Bf 110s taken by the British for technical evaluation. In 1946, it was selected for preservation by the Air Historical Branch. Another of my recent builds, Eduard’s 1/48 BF110E. Finished with Tamiya acrylic and a weathered winter white wash of Tamiya XF2 flat white over hairspray. A moist brush and a little patience resulted in the distressed white wash which has been enhanced with oil washes to give an overall grimy used look. They did just that - but at a cost of 42 aircraft shot down. The questionable location of the assembly point (in easy reach of at least four night-fighter bases), a communications foul-up and a clear moonlit night added up to ideal conditions for the NJGs. Helmut Bergman of 8/NJG4 downed 6 Lancasters in the space of just 30 minutes. Trying my hand at weathering worn winter camo on an Eduard 1/48 bf-110 using Tamiya acrylic white over hairspray for the chipped effect using my Gaahleri Mobius airbrush. I’m not sure if I’m totally happy with it but we all have to start and learn new techniques somewhere. Resumo sobre Mölders - Parte 1 Werner "Vati" Mölders nasceu em 18 de março de 1913, em Gelsenkirchen. Ele era filho do professor Viktor Mölders e de sua esposa Annemarie, nascida Riedel. "Parte 5" - Hans Ulrich Rudel Alertou o criminoso de guerra Josef Mengele, que encontrava-se em Buenos Aires, de que a Alemanha Ocidental pedira sua extradição ao governo argentino. A Argentina negou tal pedido alegando que ele não vivia em seu território. Depois Rudel auxiliou Mengele a fugir para o Paraguai. Retornou à Alemanha Ocidental em 1953 e filiou-se ao Deutsche Reichspartei, partido político de extrema-direita. Reprovou o atentado de Claus von Stauffenberg contra a vida de Hitler. Declarou-se nacional-socialsta até o fim da vida. Auxiliou a USAF a desenvolver o caça-bombardeiro A-10 Thunderbolt II. Suas Memórias foram publicadas com o título em português Piloto de Stuka com prefácio dos ases aliados Douglas Bader e Pierre Clostermann. Apesar de ter perdido a perna direita no final da guerra e de usar uma prótese, continuou praticando esportes. Jogava tênis e esquiava. Na Argentina, escalou os montes Aconcágua e, em três ocasiões, o Llullaillaco. Rudel faleceu em Rosenheim em 18 de dezembro de 1982 aos 66 anos de idade. A seu pedido, todas as suas condecorações (inclusive a Goldenem Eichenlaubes) foram doadas por sua viúva para um Museu Alemão, onde repousam até esta data, já que Rudel não queria vê-las leiloadas nos Estados Unidos. Como Rudel, durante toda a sua vida, declarou-se um Nacional Socialista convicto, o Governo Alemão proibiu qualquer manifestação ou homenagem. A Bundesluftwaffe proibiu a presença de seus pilotos nos funerais. Apesar dessas ordens, vários pilotos fizeram-se presentes à cerimônia e, no momento em que seu ataúde baixava à sepultura, caças McDonnell-Douglas F-4F Phantom II da Luftwaffe fizeram um sobrevoo rasante sobre o cemitério, numa última saudação a uma das maiores lendas da aviação militar alemã. "Parte 4" - Hans Ulrich Rudel A partir de 1944 já como comandante do StG 2, alcançaria a marca das 1800 missões de combate. Hitler, considerando-o valioso demais para voar em operações de combate, exigiu que permanecesse em terra, no entanto após muita insistência de Rudel, retornaria ao combate. Em uma certa ocasião, em 1944, ao pousar seu avião para tentar resgatar dois companheiros que haviam sido abatidos atrás das linhas inimigas, quase foi capturado. A descolagem falhou, os quatro seguiram a pé até as linhas alemãs. No caminho, encontraram um rio e tiveram que atravessar nadando, mas o artilheiro de Rudel, Erwin Hentschel acabou se afogando. Assim, somente os três seguiram caminho e por fim alcançaram as linhas alemãs. No dia 8 de Fevereiro de 1945, um fragmento de um disparo de artilharia atingiu com gravidade na perna. Rudel fez um pouso de emergência, tendo sua vida salva pelo seu observador que estancou o sangue mas a sua perna acabaria por ser amputada logo abaixo do joelho. E mesmo sem uma das pernas, retornaria a voar em missões de combate um mês e meio depois, destruindo mais 26 blindados até o final da Guerra. Quando a Guerra terminou, determinado a não ser capturado pelos soviéticos, liderou um grupo de três Stukas e quatro FW190 a partir da Boêmia num voo de duas horas até Kitzinge, onde se rendeu aos norte-americanos. Depois de cumprir uma pena de 11 meses de prisão, seria libertado. Esteve aprisionado para interrogatórios na Inglaterra e na França. Libertado, permaneceu internado em um hospital da Baviera até 1946. Depois de receber alta, iniciou uma atividade no ramo de transportes. Mudou-se para a Argentina em 1948 onde, com outros pilotos alemães, trabalhou para a Companhia Estatal de Aviação. Tornou-se amigo do presidente Juan Perón e prestou assessoria à força aérea argentina. Alfredo Stroessner, ditador do Paraguai, Otto Skorzeny e outros ex-dirigentes nazistas exilados na América do Sul também pertenciam a seu círculo de amizades. Continua... The Focke-Wulf Fw 187 Falke ("Falcon") was a German aircraft developed in the late 1930s. It was conceived by Kurt Tank as a twin-engine, high-performance fighter, but the Luftwaffe saw no role for the design, perceiving it as intermediate between the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Bf 110. "Parte 2" - Hans Ulrich Rudel Rudel levantou vôo na sua primeira missão de bombardeio de mergulho às 3 horas da manhã do dia 23 de junho de 1941, e ainda estaria voando 18 horas depois, tendo estado fora em quatro missões diferentes. O ritmo das operações era tal que os pilotos saíam para até 8 missões em um só dia, e isso dia após dia, semana após semana. A maior façanha individual de Rudel foi em Setembro de 1941. Duas brigadas do seu Geschwander (esquadrão, grupo aéreo) haviam se deslocado para Tyrkovo ao sul de Luga para uma ofensiva direta a Leningrado. Um avião de reconhecimento avistou os encouraçados soviéticos October Revolution e Marat, além de dois cruzadores e algumas embarcações menores da Armada Soviética do Báltico, no porto de Kronstadt. Em 23 de setembro de 1941, os dois Staffeln do I/St.G 2 atacaram a frota soviética ancorada no porto de Kronstadt, defendido por mais de 1.000 armas antiaéreas. Entre os navios lá ancorados, estava o encouraçado "Marat", de 26.500 toneladas. O Geschwander de Rudel decidiu atacar com os três esquadrões, levando bombas de 1.000 kg. Sorrateiramente levantaram vôo na manhã do dia 23 de setembro. Rudel estava pilotando um Stuka da esquadrilha líder; e quando o ataque começou ele estava diretamente atrás do líder de esquadrão que havia dito que ele era "louco". O dia estava claro com o céu sem nuvens. Naquele estágio da guerra, os caças russos raramente levantavam voo e, como que para confirmar isso, nenhum apareceu no dia 23 de setembro. Os Stukas se aproximaram de Kronstadt a uma altitude de 3.000 mil metros, e a 15 km do seu alvo, entraram numa tempestade de fogo antiaéreo. Alguns Stukas tentaram escapar do fogo, e, ao fazê-lo, as esquadrilhas e esquadrões se misturaram. Mas o líder do esquadrão de Rudel decididamente manteve seu rumo com Rudel colado a sua cauda. Quando Rudel viu que seu líder tinha acionado os freios aerodinâmicos de seu avião, ele fez o mesmo, e ambos os Stukas começaram seus mergulhos em ângulos cujas medidas estavam entre 70 e 80º. "Parte 1" - Hans Ulrich Rudel Nascido na Silésia em 2 de julho de 1916, Hans-Ulrich Rudel era o terceiro filho do ministro luterano Johannes Rudel. Na escola, não era nada promissor, mas se destacava nas áreas esportista, frequentando o Ginásio de Ciências Humanas, em Lauban. Assim como a maioria dos jovens de sua idade, ele se juntou à Juventude Hitlerista em 1933. Depois de se formar na Abitur em 1936, ele participou do Serviço de Trabalho obrigatório do Reich (RAD). Em 1936 ele entrou para a Luftwaffe como oficial-cadete. Após ser aprovado em seu curso de treinamento de voo e qualificado como piloto, Rudel, foi voluntário para treinos futuros com bombardeiros de mergulho e não foi bem visto por seus instrutores. Teve seu pedido rejeitado e foi mandado para um curso de observação de reconhecimento aéreo. Como observador aéreo, Rudel voou em missões de reconhecimento de longo alcance sobre a Polônia. Durante 1940, serviu como ajudante regimental do 43º Regimento de Treinamento de Aviadores, baseado em Viena. Rudel, desejava fazer parte do que era então encarado pelos muitos jovens pilotos como o mais atraente da força aérea, voar em um Junkers Ju 87 Stuka. Continuou tendo seus pedidos de transferência para a divisão aérea de bombardeio e mergulho dos Stukas negados até 1940, quando teve uma chance de preencher uma vaga em um dos cursos de vôo do Ju 87. Após completá-lo, foi transferido para uma brigada de treinamento do Stuka (I/St.G.2) próximo à Stuttgart, de onde observou a campanha na França e nos Países Baixos. No início da Operação Barbarossa, o I/St.G.2 foi para o "front" russo e executava missões quase vinte e quatro horas por dia. Todas as tripulações eram necessárias e Rudel foi transferido para o esquadrão, onde chamou a atenção do líder. "O Rudel é o melhor homem do meu esquadrão" disse ele duas ou três semanas depois, "mas ele é louco, não viverá muito tempo". Potential first inaccuracy spotted in “Masters of the Air” episode 2. Incoming German fighters called out as Ju-88s but clearly are Bf-110s. Plausible crew mistaken identification, but it would have made more sense if they were called out as a similar tail design aircraft such as a Do-217 (two vertical stabilizers with a single horizontal stabilizer). That being said, Ju-88s and Do-217s were converted to Bomber interceptor roles later in the war, and almost exclusively as night fighters. Bomber crews in 1943 would absolutely know a Bf110 when they saw it.. What do you think? While the Ju 88 was conceived as a bomber, it was realized quite early that its long range, speed, and maneuverability were good enough to transform the aircraft into a heavy fighter, like the Bf 110. As a result, Junkers engineers modified the bomber removing the external bob racks and dive breaks and substituting the plexiglass nose with a solid nose that housed 3 MG 17 machine guns and one 20mm cannon (see picture of an early Ju 88C-2). The aircraft was first used in the summer of 1940 (before the Battle of Britain) with KG 30 in Norway which had established a Zerstorerstaffel (heavy fighter or destroyer squadron). The aircraft proved popular and capable, so when the British started to bomb Germany by night in May 1940, the Luftwaffe realized that the Bf 109 was unsuitable for the night fighting role and more capable night fighters were needed. General Kammhubber decided to use the Bf 110 and Ju 88 as night fighters. The first for interceptions in Germany proper while the Ju 88 would operate over the British bomber bases trying to catch the enemy bombers taking off or landing. The 1940 night fighters lacked any onboard radar (see picture of Ju 88C-2) and initially attacked with the help of ground-based searchlights or plain eyesight, but it was not until the introduction of ground radar stations that consistent kills started to be achieved. During the first year of operations (July 1940-July 1941), they succeded in shooting down 250 British bombers of which 143 (57%) were claimed by the Ju 88C over the British airfields. This represented only about 1% of the adversary's bomber sorties (plus another 1% by accidents and Flak) so the British, believing they were causing serious damage, continued attacking by night. . . . . . . . . . . #ju88 #bf110 #nightfighter #aircraft #fighter #pilot
Messerschmitt Bf110G Nachtjager 大戦末期、昼間はアメリカ、夜間はイギリスの航空機からの爆撃にさらされていたドイツでは対爆撃機戦闘もこなしつつ随伴してくる護衛の戦闘機とも戦うことのできる単発の戦闘機を昼間戦闘に、単発戦闘機との空戦に不向きではあるけれど長時間飛び続けることのできる双発機を夜間戦闘に振り分けました。 今回描いたのは夜間戦闘の方に振り分けられたBf110という飛行機です。人間の目視で暗闇の中、ターゲットとなる航空機の排気炎等を発見し攻撃をしかけるということは非常に効率が悪く、2人乗りであったBf110は地上レーダーの捉えた機影を無線誘導に従い索敵、またはサーチライトに照らされた機体を追う形で夜間戦闘をおこなっていました。しかしこのような非効率なやりかたを払拭する画期的なシステム「機上レーダー」が導入されることにより、より近代的な戦闘スタイルに移行することになります。 描いている飛行機の鼻先に付いているやつが機上レーダーのアンテナでけっこうな空気抵抗になり、また機材もそこそこ重量があったため最高速度は50キロほど落ちたそうです。描いた機体は装備していませんが、他にも近距離用のレーダーを併用した機体や相手の爆撃機の出す後方警戒レーダーの電波をホーミングするアンテナを装備した機体もありました。漆黒の闇の中での航空戦も興味深いです。 #pencildrawing #シャープペン画 #messerschmitt #メッサーシュミット #bf110 #bf110g #夜間戦闘機 #nachtjaeger #aviationart #warbirds #イラスト
