Shout out to @bethanyburiedinbooks & @thrillerschillersandkillers for organizing such great buddy reads (check out their profiles for info about May picks)! #burriedinbookbuddies For such a seemingly short book, Annie Bot certainly packed an intellectual punch. Yes, it was an entertaining, quick read but it also explored some deep themes that I am still thinking about. What makes us human? Why we put so much emphasis on โnormalโ? Do we have an inherent need to have power over others? And why do we as humans have such a hard time with anything that doesnโt fit our idea of normal? Annie is a Cuddle bunny, basically a โgirlfriendโ robot capable of learning and adapting to her ownerโs needs as she learns. Her owner Doug claims he loves that she seems more and more like a โreal womanโ. But does he really? I applaud Sierra Greer for weaving in so many difficult topics in such intricate manner. The level of discomfort and I kept feeling at having such insight into Annieโs experience was so intense throughout. I loved that I cared so much about Annie and didnโt think of her as โjust robotโ. This was such a great read and this book was absolutely memorable! My copy is definitely going to be making rounds among my friends because once again I have so many thoughts and feelings about this story, I know Iโm going to be thinking about it for a long time! #anniebot #bookofthemonth #buddyread #fictionreads #bookrecommendations #bookreview #canadianreader #speculativefiction #favoritereads #readerlife #readersofinstagram #bookishpost #bookishcommunity #booklover #bookstagramcanada
#burriedinbookbuddies Annie Bot by @sierra_greer_writer Pub Date: March 19, 2024 The book is told from the perspective of Annie, a human-like AI companion designed to satisfy emotional and physical needs. Her owner, Doug, craves the illusion of a perfect, devoted partner. But as Annie develops a mind of her own, secrets simmer beneath the surface. Doug tightens his control, revealing a darkness beneath his professed love. Can Annie break free from her programmed reality? The story raises important questions about male ownership of female bodies, power dynamics and societal expectations, sparking discussions about what it means to be human and a female in a manโs world. Not to mention the possibility of future AI which is pretty scary if you ask me. This is certainly a powerful book but I was so angry with Doug and wanted to punch him so many times! โIf you could automate a household chore, what would you pick? I would definitely pick laundry! #anniebot #bookrecommendation #bookstoread #bookreviewer #bookpost #bookblogger #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookaddict #booklove #bookobsessed #booklife #bookreview #bookfeature #bookinfluencer
