“Colpa delle stelle” è stato uno dei primi libri che ho letto quando avevo 12 anni circa.✨ Da più piccola ancora non amavo particolarmente leggere, mi dedicavo al massimo a qualche storia fantasy (tipo Fairy Oak, non so se qualcuno di voi conosce la saga di Vaniglia e Pervinca e del loro mondo fatato🧚 ). BOOK REVIEW: Castle Ever Dark, Sara Knightly. Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ ( I received an Advance Review Copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. ARC received via @booksirens ) @saraknightlybooks outdid herself with this sequel to Secrets Ever Green. It holds even more questions, mystery and magic than its predecessor, along with an added eerie and unsettling undertone. Her writing is just as gorgeously descriptive, mystic and enthralling as ever, and I found myself completely submerged in life at the castle, so much so that I stayed up until 7:30am to reach the final page! The pacing of clues appearing and information being revealed was executed perfectly in my eyes, and I didn’t find myself losing interest at any point which is something that I struggle NOT to do - I was thoroughly captivated and enchanted from start to finish. I enjoyed the Count’s point-of-view chapters dotted throughout the story. Along with Ivy’s POV, they slowly began to weave together to reveal the dark secrets of the castle and the dangers that lurked around every corner. Learning the Count’s reason for his obsession with the carpenters of Windermere brought a whole new understanding to the story. The twists and revelations that started to come into light (especially during the second half of the story) explained so much but still left enough mystery and questions for the next book to answer. 🫰🏻So This is Ever After! I read this last month and included it in my monthly wrap up but it needed its own post! I had to return it to my library as one of my students kept asking about it (I really raved about it) and so I don’t have it in its own photo by itself- I’m going to buy my own copy so that I can show it off on this page when I want 😍 I am also so obsessed with the cover! This was a character driven, YA queer romantasy that was so fun and wholesome. It was inclusive in ways that felt genuine and not box ticking, and it gave me all the warm and fuzzy feels you want from a romance that was also age appropriate for teens. It was a book that’s all about what happens post defeat of the baddie, and is centred on finding love. It doesn’t have a lot of world building nor magic system explanation, but that sat fine with me given the size of the book, the overall plot and genre. Quitte à être violent, cruelle, tyrannique et sans merci. Mais on découvre un homme qui souffre de tant de violence, de faux-semblants et de la détresse de son peuple. Sa relation avec Tessa est si belle. Elle est sa touche d'espoir, son humanité. Okay, only two chapters into “Just For The Summer” on our road trip home today, and I already had to explain to my husband four times why I literally laughed out loud. had the BEST indie bookstore day 📚 Started the day at my local indie, @books_n_co! Me and my husband had fun participating in some of their games and book shopping together ❤️ Then I visited @bhbkenosha with @reading.is.your.destiny & @bookin.becca! Next we headed to their Indie Bookstore Day event where they hosted authors @marykubica, @jenevaroseauthor, @lindsayncurrie, and @johnmilaslit. Sam did a great job moderating, and it was so fun to learn more about these authors and their books 📚 Thank you so much to @htpbooks @htp_hive for sponsoring me and Destiny today 🫶 We had an absolute blast ❤️ it was so awesome meeting two authors that I’ve been a fan of for a while (Mary & Jeneva) AND be introduced to two new-to-me authors!! Indie Bookstore Day is truly one of the best days of the year and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it ❤️
April is the awareness month for autism all over the world. In the Philippines, it is nationally declared that every 3rd week of January is the awareness week for autism. But in my household, it's everyday. My son, Adam, who has autism with concurrent ADHD, made me and my husband intensely aware how he made our lives richer and more unique. The parenthood path Mark and I trod is generally seen, from the perspective of norms, as difficult. And it's true. It is difficult. But I imagine raising a kid - all kinds of kids - has their own challenges and struggles. Ours is just different from the usual. Ours is a path paved by the stomp of a boy who strongly, strongly marches to the beat of his own drum - this boy who sometimes seemed unaware that there are people around him. As parents, we march along not only for fear that we might completely lose him to his own world, but also to understand it (and him) better. And as parents, we try to tug him back to our world not to change him, but just to remind that we are here for him. We're still far from any success stories, but we eventually have some little hurrays to celebrate for: his ears that ignored calls before now responds, his words that won't come out now flows in big booming voice, his solitude now looks for company, his tantrums lessened as we understand him more, and his gaze that once refuses connection now seeks the eyes of people he trusts and loves. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done. Parenthood, after all, is forever. We can learn instinctively, we can learn from experts, we can learn from books. We learn 24/7. We learn from experience. We get tired but we learn. We always learn. And for my son, learning will never be a chore. P.S. Here's 4 #bookrecommendations for this month. I've read all, except the newly purchased "Thinking in Pictures," which interests me a lot because as his devped said, they process words easily when they can see it visually. Okay, believe the hype, because this book is one ADDICTIVE THRILLER! Once I started it, I was hooked and I could not put it down. It’s fun, a little silly but is just full of pure entertainment value. It’s the kind of entertaining thriller that feels like you are watching a fun movie, complete with popcorn and a soft drink. Filled with jaw dropping twists, perfect pacing and razor sharp plotting, The Housemaid builds with unrelenting, uneasy and chilling tension, exploring what goes on behind the perfect facade of an everyday normal suburban family. It’s a thriller about what happens when an outsider starts to see the cracks, and the danger that this puts them in. Xavier is in a coma after falling from his bedroom window in the middle of the night, and his mother, Whitney, is not talking to anyone. Neighbors are in shock, and we revisit the events leading up to that night and what could have possibly happened. Was it an accident? Did Xavier try to take his own life? Or worse, did someone push him? As we go through each character and their possible involvement, this one will have you suspecting so many as well as thinking it might have been none. I was hooked and this was a riveting read, up until the very last chilling line that left my jaw dropped wide open. The audio for this was great, capturing the suspense in this one perfectly and I definitely recommend it if you like audiobooks. Happy independent bookstore day!! 🪩🥂📖💫 I vowed this year that I would not buy any books from Barnes & Noble or Target or any big chain stores. And somehow the first quarter of the year I got into a huge reading slump, which led to me buying more books than I have probably in the last two years combined 😬 so thank goodness for all the small bookstores around me that helped supply me with new books for myself, my friends, and my family. Some of my favorites include: Greedy Books (Baltimore, MD) Birds in Hand Café and Bookstore (Baltimore, MD) The Buzzed Word (Ocean City, MD) People’s Book (Takoma Park, MD) Loyalty Books (Washington, DC) Lost City Books (Washington, DC) Crow Bookshop (Burlington, VT) Phoenix Books (Burlington, VT) Speaking Volumes (Burlington, VT) Bookworks (Whitefish, MT) The Bookshelf (Kalispell, MT) Island Bookstore (Duck, NC) Ducks Cottage (Duck, NC) But in all honesty, there isn’t an independent bookstore that I haven’t loved. Anytime I go to a new city, I’m bound to find one and wander in to explore it. And I will always buy something 🙈 I hate to walk out of a small business and not support it! Plus it is fun to buy a book from where you are visiting either set in that location or written by an author from that area. I love how small bookstores make their businesses fun and unique. They offer cute little trinkets, wonderful staff recommendations, fun giveaways, and creative events. If I could spent all day (and all my money) exploring little stores I would. I wanted to love this one. I was in the mood for a lighter read, and this one sounded like a cute mystery. But it was not for me. The synopsis is fun - a bestselling writer, Eleanor Dash, goes on a press tour in Italy for the latest book in her mystery series. The star of her series, Connor, is also her friend Connor in real life and she wants him out of the books and out of her life. But then it seems someone actually wants to kill him? Then of course it’s time for Eleanor to solve the mystery. What I liked? The plot idea was great, and the writing was really clever and witty. What I didn’t like? It was such a confusing read. It was hard to keep track of all of the characters and flashbacks, and I found myself rereading sections over and over trying to place when they happened and who the author was referring to. What I *really* didn’t like? The footnotes! They were incredibly distracting (especially in digital arc format because they didn’t line up properly, which is no fault of the author and would resolve itself in a published copy) and I don’t feel like they added enough to the story to warrant having *that* many.
