You can’t visit Thailand without going to at least 1 temple! While in Chiang Rai we went to check out the White Temple. I’m not the biggest fan of doing touristy things like visiting temples but the white temple looked quite different than the rest so we decided to go to that one! Overall, it’s extremely busy and filled with tourists. Mario is the flower salesman at the parking lot of a grocery store in Las Terrenas. His bundles of flowers cost 300 Dominican Pesos ($7) and you probably wont find better quality anywhere else. From start to end, this whole 3-hour fine dining experience at Locavore NXT in Bali was an adventure. This was our one splurge during this trip, which cost about the same as Pearl Morissette in Niagara region, except in Bali - so we expected something spectacular and it didn’t disappoint. Immediately, it was clear that this restaurant was immersed in nature and works closely with it. All of the ingredients are locally-sourced with no dairy or wheat. They state that “NXT is a localized rebellion” and want to focus on working with nature. When we arrived, our first welcome drinks and 2 snacks were provided in the lobby bar. We were then brought through a beautifully-made Balinese door and brought downstairs to have another dining experience beside their mushroom growing room. This was followed by another tasting after we ever brought up to the main open kitchen. The largest part of the meal was had at a dining table, and we finished off in a little café at the end with a couple pour overs. This was 100% worth the experience, and I’d personally recommend the non-alcoholic drink pairing 👌 the textures and flavours were mind-blowing. This new iteration of the original Locavore restaurant opened in Summer 2023. 📍 Location: Jl. A.A. Of course I’m Filipino. I WOULD go looking for rice as soon as I arrive. 🍚 Sumilon island has a buffet service. I didn’t need to do it only because I couldn’t eat that much but I think if I was there for much longer I would have. It’s decently priced. Food is hot. And I was incredibly thirsty from having trekked everywhere. I like that there aren’t any flies or bugs around unlike in some places which would typically turn me off from eating. I also like that it’s not crowded. If you come with a family it might be better but since I’m alone I was fine with a la carte.
