Sculpting practice for today with Chavant Clayette soft. This is way too soft for me. I feel like I should sculpt with a butterfly wing because it changes with the slightest touch. But, it sticks really well to the armature. A minus is the color. I’m obsessive and any little cat hair or speck of dust is going to show on the light colored clay. I might like this in a medium hardness/different color. -Goldilocks

Work in progress of number 3 in my series of female figures with exaggerated proportions and a nod to the Art deco style. I’m really enjoying working in a completely different style to my normal dancers, with each of the last 3 projects concentrating less on the anatomically correct approach and more on the stylised approach. I’m still not sure if any of them will sell well, or at all? The @freshartfair galleries had very little representation of figurative sculpture, which i was really surprised and disappointed with. I realise that bronzes are a hard sell because of the higher prices involved so maybe the cost of living crises and the galleries not wanting to take on a hard sell is a contributing factor? Either way, I’ll keep producing work that makes me happy and perhaps I’ll have a studio sale soon with some special offers. A bit late posting this had an amazing l 3day workshop last month with the super talented @studiosangeet was incredible few days sculpting wounds and "sculpting for prostetics " and hearing him talk about work/ techniques which went beyond sculpting and about the industry of prostetics , and was so incredibly generous with his knowledge can't recommend his courses enough need to do more sculpting , been slow last few weeks but really excited to try make and paint my own prostetics, was so cool he's worked on some of my frav shows and and even producing his own short films which are great and his workshop which was really peaceful and so much stuff to took at ❤️ x This piece was on a hand cast sculpted gnarly wound the we floated it of and finished the sculpt and made cast of it, was exciting and such a treat to just be doing sculpting they were epic sessions lol , which went so quickly and got some @fromlifeprosthetics from @studiosangeet these look brilliant and can't wait to apply these and paint to them Also met to brilliantly skilled prostetic artists @olivii_sfx & @paigecolemakeup lernt loads from. Heather break down. I wasn't sure at first where to separate the pieces, but it quickly came to light. I think the most important thing overall was taking the chin piece down the center of the neck, which allowed the cowl to be placed and tightly cinched around each side of the neck. Silicone necks can be problematic if they go all the way around if you don't shave down the core. This way mafe the application painless. And then separating the eyes was just about picking the right spot to do that, the sculpt was pretty thick. Had to cut through a lot of clay but eventually got it off. I took a while to clean up the back side of the sculpt so that it would fit cleanly on the snap. In the end though everything came together really nicely. This is Heather, one of the new additions to season 3 on @residentalien we created at GnN EFFECTS. Played by the hilarious @edipattersonhi I had the great pleasure of sculpting, creating the molds and prosthetics for this character, @scummibunz also ran pieces too! We had a set of gloves beautifully sculpted by @salmon.jamie and wings headed up by @damienjamesfx to finish off the look of the character. I really enjoyed the breakdown on this and am happy to share it with you all. This is the blocked out head sculpt before it was floated, broken down and final textures added. Originally I sculpted the lower beak in proportion with the upper beak, but production wanted something that would potentially translate more movement when the actor spoke. From what I saw from first tests it didn't work as well as they had hoped though. The designed of the makeup removed almost all emotion from the the acting. The eyes were static and had to be digitally enhanced. The cheeks had zero movement, as well as the upper beak. The only thing that really moved was the lower lip/beak. I do think the overall finished makeup was quite successful though, it came together beautifully.
