Breakfast in America – Supertramp Released: 1979 Label: A&M Standout Tracks: "Gone Hollywood", "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger", "Breakfast in America", "Take the Long Way Home", "Child of Vision" Breakfast in America is the sixth studio album by Supertramp. Though the band had seen some success in the past—especially with their most recent album, 1977's Even in the Quietest Moments…—Breakfast in America was their first true blockbuster success. It topped the charts in several countries and houses several of the group's most recognizable songs, namely the title track, "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger", and "Take the Long Way Home". The discord between frontmen Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson was becoming more prevalent during the development of the album, with this being reflected in the musical direction of the songs each composed for the album; Hodgson's are more pop-oriented while Davies' tend to drift more into rock and blues territories. In my opinion, this clash in ideology makes for an overall stronger and more interesting album and does not lead to a directionless project like the band's next LP, 1982's …Famous Last Words…. Revisiting this classic Supertramp album from the 70s, containing some of their best known hits. Wonderfully nostalgic. I remember Birmingham when I was growing up being full of hippie/rockers wearing denim jackets with Supertramp patches sewn on the back (it probably still is). Además de leer, escribir y dar clases de Geografía e Historia, también me encuentro sumida en las procelosas aguas de la tesis doctoral. Un océano de datos, visitas al archivo y obligatorias sentadas para escribir algo medianamente coherente y a la altura del canon académico. Hoy ha sido uno de esos días en que incluso no me ha resultado desagradable pensar en la tesis, lo cual había que aprovechar inmediatamente. Y aquí presento a mis dos compañeros de jornada. A Al Stewart lo conocía porque de pequeña le birlé a mi padre una cinta de casette con este disco y lo flipaba profundamente. Lo sigo haciendo, y más aún cuando encuentro directos de Year of the Cat, la canción que da nombre al disco. No tienen desperdicio absoluto. Lástima que los que más me gustan estén en YouTube y no en Spotify. El segundo disco lo descubrí un día, cuando en Kiss FM ponían música decente. El Logical Song fue otra voladura de cabeza. No se me olvidará la cara del dependiente de El Corte Inglés cuando apareció la mocosa que escribe esto, con trece años, a pagar religiosamente. Tampoco se me olvidará la de mi padre. Este disco me trae recuerdos de viajes de ida y vuelta en verano, a casa de mis abuelos. Discos, en definitiva, para escuchar de una tacada. My post is late, but Happy Birthday to Breakfast In America!! ⬇️ I want to start off by justifying the success and adoration of this album. Many hard core fans could argue its overrated compared to Tramp's other albums, but this is a widely loved album for good reason!! Whether you're a new fan to Supertramp, or you just know their name by this album, I still think from bottom to top its a perfect record. Breakfast In America holds many hits such as "The Logical Song" and "Goodbye Stranger." And let me tell you, when one of these bad boys plays on the radio on in a store, you already know ill be singing every word lol! The radio hits are full and plump with the sound of wurlitzers and to die for vocals both displayed by Hodgson and Davies. Not to mention the obvious champion of sax, Helliwell (that solo in The Logical Song gets me every time, it's too good!) Dougie and Bob make these songs complete and rich with their own style and personality too. My favorite track has to be "Oh Darling" for the reason that I love Rick's voice and the keyboard in this song is like a dream! This album holds a lot of sentimental value for myself because it rocketed me into a deeper genre of music! I remember falling in love with Supertramp and discovering this album over the radio. The cover is first-rate and the title track is too. I think this is one of the best Rick/Roger albums besides Crime, as it incorporates all their talent equally. Wishing a very Happy Birthday to the super-talented singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist musician, Mr. Roger Hodgson ~ he’s a very youthful 72 today! Roger was the heart and soul of Supertramp back in the day. A founding member of the band, he was with Supertramp from 1969 to 1983 and was responsible for most of their best known songs. @rogerhodgson still performs all those irresistible hits and emotive gems superbly live! He does have backing musicians, but Roger on his keyboard or guitar alone on stage can hold an entire audience of many thousands captivated and enthralled. I have been very fortunate to witness two of Roger’s performances and actually got to meet the man after his magical New Zealand concert in 2010. I can confirm that he is not only a brilliant musician, but a very kind, caring human being ~ a really nice guy! I asked Roger many questions… Which album is his personal favourite from such a wonderful back catalogue? ‘Crisis! What Crisis?’. Therefore, I have featured that as the main pic, with the theme being extremely relevant in 2022. My fav is 'Crime of the Century’ (pic 3) Photo 2 was taken backstage at ASB Theatre, Auckland on 14th April, 2010. L-R: Me, brother-in-law Hugh, my sister Marion, RH, my sister Liz and my good friend, Steve. The rest are records from my collection and the great man himself! Currently listening to this amazingly clean copy of Supertramp's Breakfast in America. I picked it up a few months ago from @spatulacityrecords . This is my second favorite Supertramp album after Crime of the Century. A 1979 Canadian release, this record is from the A&M Audiophile Series. It was remastered at half-speed, and then pressed on virgin vinyl in Japan by JVC. The album sleeve is cherry, almost new, and the vinyl is beautiful, clean, and clear; this record has spent very little time under a needle. It also came in its original protective outer plastic envelope-type sleeve, which is supercool, too.
