In April spring energy is becoming dominant. Spring is the time when the liver energy is at its strongest. Liver energy is the Wood element and it tends to take over everything, which is not beneficial. The lungs, which are metal energy, try to control it but on their own they don’t have enough energy to control it during the spring season, which is why people tend to cough a lot in the spring because liver energy is too strong. We can balance the Liver Energy by Strengthening the Lung Energy. We can strengthen the Lung Energy by… 👉Adding a little more spice to your food. Green onion and ginger root help balance the lung energy, the digestive system, and help prevent colds and flu because they can really activate the lung’s energy. Definitely, I would encourage you to use green onion and ginger root as often as possible, even just a little bit can help a lot. 👉Get outside in nature, be active and sweat. Outdoors or indoors, you need to exercise until you break a sweat because sweating strengthens the energy of your lungs, which helps to balance the liver/wood energy. Sweating detoxifies the energy of the body through the skin, which strengthens the lungs because the skin is part of the breathing system. Exercising strengthens the lungs’ energy and so does sweating. So, work up a good sweat every day. At the very least just break a sweat each day. Our life is filled with relationships. Often we draw relationships to us to show us what we seek to know about ourselves. If you look at any relationship with perspective, you can usually see that what was missing for you in the relationship is what has been missing in your relationship with life. Relationships most often reflect how we feel about ourselves. The fact that you invested your energy in the relationship, in some way, means that you chose to be in it for a good reason. As a particular relationship comes forward in your mind and you feel the emotion of it, embrace the dynamic of the relationship. What was the essential energy of this relationship? What is it about this relationship that has bound you to it for so long? As you embrace the essence of the energy of what this person has shown you about yourself, you gain a much greater awareness as to why you magnetized it to you in the first place. Every relationship I have ever had shows me something in me I needed to heal or awaken within me. Maybe there is a relationship you have hung on to that has a lot of emotion in it that you have suppressed. Even though you are not actively in that relationship right now, or feel you have ‘let go of it’, there can still be some dynamics you can observe that help you get the most from the Soul lesson that is there for you. As residents of this Universe, we all live in a beautiful state of mutual inter-dependence. Just like a mother and her child, the relationship between the Universe and its residents is one of support and love. A loving mother uses her energy to help her child be healthy and happy, and the same can be said for the universe. The Universe gives us the energy to nurture ourselves back into total health and provides us the limitless healing energy for you to help yourself and others. What does it mean to walk on an awakening path? Imagine – you are walking on a path through fields of green grass. Everywhere, there are bright little dandelions. What do you say to yourself? “My goodness! Look at all these obnoxious little weeds everywhere!” Or, “What beautiful little flowers! I’m going to pick a few and make a nice green salad and some tea with them!” Maybe you remember the joy of plucking these flowers as a child. Or maybe you think with disgust of the toil of digging them up in your garden. Now. The truth is, there is just you, the fields, and the dandelions. Are dandelions obnoxious? Are they delightful? If you really look at it, those experiences – delight or disgust – have to do with YOU Do you want dandelions to bring you happiness and joy? Or do you want them to make you miserable? This is the choice you get to make. That is how life is, and that is what it means to choose to walk on an awakening path. Our life is like a path. We have to walk it every day. Along the way, we will encounter many things, people, and events. Eat less Sugar and Spicy foods as they will over-activate the liver energy causing the liver energy to get spent faster. Spicy food is good to activate the Lung energy but do over do it at this time. As a result, when you come to summertime you will not have enough liver energy and that is not helpful to your heart and can even trigger high blood pressure in some people. Sugar, in particular, can quickly deplete the liver's energy reserves when consumed in excess, leaving us feeling drained and fatigued. By reducing our intake of sugary treats and opting for naturally sweet alternatives like fresh fruits or small amounts of honey, we can support the liver's vitality without overwhelming it. Similarly, while spicy foods can invigorate the lungs and add zest to our meals, it's important not to overdo it during springtime. Excessive consumption of spicy fare can over activate the liver energy, leaving us depleted when summertime arrives. Moderation is key—enjoy the occasional spicy dish to awaken the senses, but refrain from overindulging to maintain a harmonious balance within the body. When you seek and strive to be and feel unconditional love in your life, sometimes, old stories can filter though and bring with them old expectations not met by what you thought love was supposed to be, doubts and fears. When a person experiences a big accident. it is always good wisdom to reflect on the situation as a gift of learning. It is your teacher. Investigate what you can learn to develop yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s wonderful to know a lot, but to put it into practice is different energy, higher energy, and as you keep practicing what you know, you discover in the most wonderful way that you become the lesson you practice. You practice at home, you practice the lesson everywhere you go, and in everything you do. Qigong learning is all about practice. You don’t need to know more about Qigong to do it or to enjoy its benefits. You don’t even need to understand it. You just have to do it. Qigong-learning is only 30 or 20 or even 10% about the information you know; “learning” Qigong is actually 70 or 80 or even 90% practice. So, learn from our friend who wrote in: “you don’t need to know more about Qigong to do it or to enjoy its benefits. You don’t even need to understand it. You just have to do it!” Most of us are raised to think the opposite. “Once I know everything there is to know about this thing, then I can do it really, really well.” Not with Qigong. Only by doing it do you learn it, and the more and more you do it, the more you understand it. So – you already know what you need to know. Just start! This is important because the legs represent vitality and when the legs get cold in the winter it can drain your vitality energy and lead to health problems when spring comes. Our life is filled with relationships. Often we draw relationships to us to show us what we seek to know about ourselves. If you look at any relationship with perspective, you can usually see that what was missing for you in the relationship is what has been missing in your relationship with life. Relationships most often reflect how we feel about ourselves. The fact that you invested your energy in the relationship, in some way, means that you chose to be in it for a good reason. As a particular relationship comes forward in your mind and you feel the emotion of it, embrace the dynamic of the relationship. What was the essential energy of this relationship? What is it about this relationship that has bound you to it for so long? As you embrace the essence of the energy of what this person has shown you about yourself, you gain a much greater awareness as to why you magnetized it to you in the first place. Every relationship I have ever had shows me something in me I needed to heal or awaken within me. Maybe there is a relationship you have hung on to that has a lot of emotion in it that you have suppressed. Even though you are not actively in that relationship right now, or feel you have ‘let go of it’, there can still be some dynamics you can observe that help you get the most from the Soul lesson that is there for you. When practicing Qigong Meditation... you focus on your breathing, and visualize the Universal light coming in through your skin, to all parts of your body, and you feel this deep connection you have with the Universe. Most of the energy we need to have a healthy body, mind, and spirit comes through our breathing. When you inhale, visualize the energy coming in through your skin, running through all the cells in your body, and collecting in your lower dantian. When you exhale, you visualize all the energy you don’t need. You don't need to believe in it for it to work. If you believe it, it works. If you don't believe it, it still works. If you believe it will work, it often works faster. Either way, it works, because energy is energy. Albert Einstein established that "energy cannot be destroyed, but energy can be transformed. Energy is in a constant state of transformation. In fact, you are constantly being engaged in transforming your energy, whether you are aware of it or not. As you continue to practice Qigong you may notice that feelings that you once had during your practice have shifted or maybe they have completely disappeared. That is just fine! Food is medicine and the ancient Chinese used food and its healing properties to build up the body when deficient, cleanse it when toxic, and release energy when in excess. Chinese nutrition focuses on the energetic properties of food. For example, some foods are considered warming and others cooling. One big way we live in harmony during the summer is to eat mindfully. When it is very hot, we eat cooling foods. We should stay away from deep-fried food or heavy, oily food that generates heat in the body and choose foods that are grown locally and in the garden right now to cool the body, feed our heart, and nurture and detoxify our small intestine. As you look at the wide variety of fresh vegetables at the farmers market, remember that foods that are coolest are at the green end of the spectrum, but generally most all vegetables are yin, cooling foods. You will see all the colors of fire in the vegetables of the summer season like sweet orange, red and yellow peppers, tomatoes, summer squashes, corn, lemons and oranges, peaches, watermelon, cherries and more and they are all beneficial as long as you balance them with the addition of green veggies. These fruits and vegetables can help your body adjust its temperature and protect you during the long, hot summer days: Red is the color of the Heart Meridian. You can use that color as a guide. For example, tomatoes, sweet red peppers, and watermelon are good summer energy choices. There also neutral foods you can add to your diet anytime like corn for example or potato, yam, turnip, carrot and apple. Organic almonds and peanuts are another neutral food. In the heat of summertime cooling foods are very good. Spring Forest Qigong healing movements embody a wisdom that will begin to teach you more deeply the more you practice them. Right from the beginning, in Level 1, you learn that the body is full of energy that likes to flow in very specific ways – this is the way the body is designed. When the energy moves the way, it is designed to, not only is the body not harmed, it thrives and can even have extra energy. But when we express our body's posture in a way that does not allow inner energy to flow smoothly or obstructs the flow of outer energy – it could be as simple as sitting on your tailbone for eight hours, with your spine curved one way, your neck another, and your shoulders hunched, – we oppose what is natural. This creates something like friction, with the result of pain, fatigue, and – over time – even sickness and shortening of life. What is the solution? A posture of the body that lets energy flow smoothly inside and out – like water over carefully laid stones. The same water that can grind a stone to nothing can also pass harmlessly over the same stone, differently placed. With understanding, that water can even be redirected and collected. When you sit or stand erect you are helping to open the back channel along the spine, which is the governing channel in the body. Simply interlock your fingers and massage your stomach around the navel area in a circular, clockwise movement. Starting from your right side (liver) and moving across and down in a clockwise circle. When you seek and strive to be and feel unconditional love in your life, sometimes, old stories can filter though and bring with them old expectations not met by what you thought love was supposed to be, doubts and fears. Every time you open your awareness to higher energies of love, the remaining lower energies about love will float up to the surface. These energies will show you what part of you has not felt loved. Ask yourself this question: Is there any part of me that is afraid of loving and being loved? Go inward, and be still for a few minutes, and then just start writing what comes to you. Now, take a few moments to talk to that part of you in the most gentle way and convey, in your own way and words, that there is nothing wrong with feeling that fear. When practicing Qigong Meditation... you focus on your breathing, and visualize the Universal light coming in through your skin, to all parts of your body, and you feel this deep connection you have with the Universe. Most of the energy we need to have a healthy body, mind, and spirit comes through our breathing. When you inhale, visualize the energy coming in through your skin, running through all the cells in your body, and collecting in your lower dantian. When you exhale, you visualize all the energy you don’t need. It’s wonderful to know a lot, but to put it into practice is different energy, higher energy, and as you keep practicing what you know, you discover in the most wonderful way that you become the lesson you practice. You practice at home, you practice the lesson everywhere you go, and in everything you do. Qigong learning is all about practice. You don’t need to know more about Qigong to do it or to enjoy its benefits. You don’t even need to understand it. You just have to do it. Qigong-learning is only 30 or 20 or even 10% about the information you know; “learning” Qigong is actually 70 or 80 or even 90% practice. So, learn from our friend who wrote in: “you don’t need to know more about Qigong to do it or to enjoy its benefits. You don’t even need to understand it. You just have to do it!” Most of us are raised to think the opposite. “Once I know everything there is to know about this thing, then I can do it really, really well.” Not with Qigong. Only by doing it do you learn it, and the more and more you do it, the more you understand it. So – you already know what you need to know. Just start! The sooner you take action, the sooner you will feel good. Practice Every day, even if it is only for a few minutes. I used to think it was impossible to love myself. Looking back, I missed many opportunities for heart-to-heart connections. 👯‍♀️ I used to view the world though a lens of self-comparison; never feeling good enough or that I could measure up. I was afraid that if people saw who I truly was, they would see what I thought was true, that I wasn’t smart, interesting, or even worth loving. 😟 When I would meet someone, instead of connecting with them through listening and being present, I would spend my time comparing myself to them: their success, confidence, achievement, appearance. I didn’t let my guard (façade) down for fear of being seen for who a truly was: mediocre. I felt like I was mediocre at everything. 🤦‍♀️ I was more concerned about what they were thinking of me than what they were saying to me. 🤷‍♀️ I didn't know that there were deep parts of me that needed healing or that I was worthy of love, not only from others, but love for myself. ❤️‍🩹 It took me years to uncover and connect to my true self; it was qigong that opened the door so I could finally see inside. I came to qigong for hip pain, but once I began practising consistently, I felt like I was climbing out of a well. 🧗‍♀️ I started to be aware of my judgements of myself and others. I saw the role I played in deteriorating relationships. As this self-awareness grew, I found myself making better decisions, sleeping better, and communicating more openly. 😇 I began to see myself and my wellness as a priority. Stress became more manageable. My relationships changed. ☺️ The healing journey is never linear. There are many ups and downs and I believe there always will be for that is the richness of the human experience. But I kept going and I keep going; some days are better than others. 💪 Fast forward to today. I feel happy with who I am. I love myself. I have stopped judging myself and others and have found compassion. This has changed my world view and brought peace, clarity, & contentment to my life. Spring Forest Qigong healing movements embody a wisdom that will begin to teach you more deeply the more you practice them. Right from the beginning, in Level 1, you learn that the body is full of energy that likes to flow in very specific ways – this is the way the body is designed. When the energy moves the way, it is designed to, not only is the body not harmed, it thrives and can even have extra energy. But when we express our body's posture in a way that does not allow inner energy to flow smoothly or obstructs the flow of outer energy – it could be as simple as sitting on your tailbone for eight hours, with your spine curved one way, your neck another, and your shoulders hunched, – we oppose what is natural. This creates something like friction, with the result of pain, fatigue, and – over time – even sickness and shortening of life. What is the solution? A posture of the body that lets energy flow smoothly inside and out – like water over carefully laid stones. If you work near a computer, placing one or two plants near your workspace in a place that gets good sunlight and in a place that you can look at once in awhile to take in all the green healing energy. Plants can help protect you by absorbing the energy from your computer, which is important anytime, but especially in the spring because that is liver time – and your liver needs the extra attention. If you don’t have a place to put two plants in good sunlight then you can put one plant in place for a week or two while the second plant is in a good place for getting the sun. Then exchange places for the plants every week or two. Better yet get two plants and put one in place for a week or two while the second plant is in a good place for getting the sun.
