📸: ‘Winter Forage’ by @redwoodclothcompany I have been obsessed with this print, it’s probably one of my favorites at this point😍 anyways, let’s talk pockets! simply put, pockets are similar to covers but instead have a another material sewn on the inside to create a “pocket”. absorbency is stuffed into into the pocket, which results in a diaper that looks most similar to disposables in my opinion. the inside fabric varies depending on brand, but I really enjoy AWJ lining on the inside as seen here. pros of pockets are a bunch😂 they are super very customizable, trim, and cost effective. they are straightforward and easy to use, but because you have to stuff them prior to use I would say they’re a bit less easy than AIOs. but stuffing is no big deal at all! there’s a ton of prints to choose from and that’s so fun to me. it’s just a bonus to using cloth in general! they’re easy to spray poops off of since the lining catches everything solid. they’re easy for on-the-go travel since they’re ready to use (once stuffed), unlike covers and other absorbencies that need to be folded and/or secured onto baby. you can just slap a pocket on like an AIO. cons of pockets include needing to change the entire diaper after every change, unlike covers that you can reuse. stuffing pockets is also seen by many moms as an extra step, that sometimes is hard to stay on top of or find time for. that’s a possible con for sure, but honestly I love laundry day and I find stuffing to be therapeutic😅 nonetheless, I think I’m in the minority on that one so we’ll call it a con. lastly, like many covers, pockets are made with a PUL outer. it’s a pro when it comes to keeping in leaks but if you’re aiming for natural fibers then pocket diapers do not fit the bill. those are just some pros and cons I can think of off the top of my head. how do you like pocket diapers? or do you use a different method of cloth. any pros or cons you disagree with? one of the coolest things about cloth is the variety of options that are available to us. I love talking to older generations of moms (and a dad) who’ve used cloth speak about their experiences pre-modern cloth diapers. I haven’t spoken to one person yet that wasn’t amazed by the options we have today!! “all-in-one” diapers are probably the most foolproof and straightforward ways to cloth. although I don’t have many because of the steep price point, I was able to get a couple of GroVia Hybrid diapers from consignment shop in Seattle so it means a little extra! pros of AIO diapers in my experience have been their simplicity. Jacob is great with most kinds of cloth, but especially AIOs!
