AD #MyFirstNappy When I was pregnant with my first I literally just googled best cloth nappies and found tots bots and bought their peenut wraps, pads and bamboozles. I was pretty lucky that they worked really well for us from birth (once we were home from the hospital) I don't have any nappy photos from very early on but here she is at a few weeks old. She was 9lb 13 so easily went straight into BTP nappies. And here's a brand new peenut wrap and pads @babipur sent us - the wraps have been improved since and now have 2 two layers of PLU which last much better, I'd say about half of our original ones that were single layered have delaminated now but the pads and bamboozles are still in use for baby 2. This week has been Reusable Nappy Week so I thought I’d share my little verdict on this great @kitandkinuk nappy. I actually got it from our local free-cycling group. I left it for a while as would’ve preferred it to go to someone wanting to try them for the first time but nobody was responding so in the end, rather than it ending up in landfill I asked for it. I am really pleasantly surprised! With so many tried and tested brands going under recently I wasn’t expecting much from a newbie, least not one that started off doing disposables (albeit eco ones) but I shouldn’t be surprised because their onesies are fantastically well made too! I have not had a single leak and, trust me, my boy puts them to the test!!! They have a double gusset, which is always good! The inner layer is Tencel and Hemp which is super absorbent but hasn’t gone crispy like other hemp boosters have. They dry quicker than many of my others too. I would 100% recommend this nappy if you are looking to start a reusable nappy journey or looking to pad out an existing stash. At around £50 for 3, they are good value too! It was a complete surprise when I started looking into using cloth nappies that there was such a community hiding here in plain sight! The further I got into my cloth nappy journey, the more supported I felt and not just because I'd started using nappies, but because everyone was so friendly and had something kind and encouraging to say about every aspect of parenting. It's a real credit to this network of cloth bum parents that many people hang about for years, even after their children are no longer in nappies. Thanks to Covid and lockdowns, it forced us to be more open-minded about where our "village" comes from. For me (4 years into my cloth journey and I've only made an IRL cloth mum friend this past year) this community has been a source of encouragement when I've felt like I'm doing everything wrong, when I couldn't get on top of the laundry or when I just needed a little pick-me-up. I've made (hopefully) lifelong friends, and these years will be forever ingrained in my memory for all the wonderful, colourful people I've had the pleasure to "meet". Having delved into research about what goes into and onto my body in the years leading up to my pregnancy, I became more mindful of my diet and skincare choices. When it came to nappies, it was no different. It's #ReusableNappyWeek and I think this might count as a few entries for this week's #BabipurChallenge #WhyWashableWipes ? We love our cloth wipes! We used them right from the start with both boys as they are so much nicer and more effective than disposable ones. For us, while we don't cloth full time, they were the gateway to reusable nappies. We have a few brands but here are some of our Close Pop-in wipes #OnTheWashingLine. I like to use a sock hanger for drying our wipes, nappy liners and inserts outside as well as inside. As a mum of two and a seasoned reusable nappy user, I've picked up a few tips along the way. Here are 5 things I've learned during my cloth journey: ➡️ Don't hesitate to ask questions. When I started, I felt like I was in a whole new world with a language I didn't understand. But trust me, the cloth community is super supportive, and there's always someone up at 3 am to chat! ➡️ There's no "best nappy." While there are different qualities out there, the best nappy is the one that works for you and your baby. ➡️ Don't stress if your baby seems ready to outgrow the nappies. Their bodies change and slim as they grow, so they can often fit in the same nappy until potty training. ➡️ Expect changes. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, there may be leaks. Babies wet differently at different stages, and that's totally normal. ➡️ Most problems can be solved with...another booster! Before you rush to try a new brand or style, try adding another booster. We're talking all about #onechangebigdifference this Reusable Nappy Week and what's better motivation than helping your child navigate potty training? Although there are no definitive statistics that show how much quicker children potty train in cloth vs. disposable, there has been a general trend for children being in nappies longer since the introduction and gain in popularity of the disposable. The main point being: disposable nappies wick the moisture away from the skin so that babies feel dry. Now what relevance does that have to modern cloth nappies? Whilst it's true that traditional nappies (terries and muslins) don't have a stay dry feel once used, many modern cloth nappies do. And it's a big selling point! Reusable nappy week 2024 🩵🌏 I thought I would pop down just some of the reasons I decided to use cloth nappies with my boys ♻️ I wanted to do my bit for the planet - I’ve always looked out for a way I can do my own bit for the planet. I remember when I was young and I would leave lights on and my step dad would say “penguins” and that was his way of reminding me about the little things we do that destroy our planet, waste energy, water etc and ever since then I knew I needed to do more and use less. ♻️ They’re bloody gorgeous! - you can’t tell me that cloth nappies don’t look beautiful. The different designs make nappy changes more fun for me personally 😂 ♻️ NAPPY RASH - oh my goodness the nappy rashes Tommy used to get with disposable nappies was horrendous! He also suffered with eczema and making the switch to reusables really helped with that! ♻️ No poonami, poopsplotions, pooey baby clothes - once you get the right fit the blowouts stop! We’re still currently part time cloth part time disposable just because Ezra was too small for all our nappies we had for Tommy and every single time he’s poo’d in a disposable nappy it’s gone everywhere!! ♻️ Saving money - reusable nappies can save you sooooooo much money!!! Especially if you have more than one child where you can reuse them again and again and again! I love using reusable nappies. It’s one thing I’m super passionate about.
