Throughout this Reusable Nappy Week, we will daily share a post as a mini course to the world of cloth diapers. Today part 2. . 2. Yes, but… . 'But will poop end up in my washing machine?' There is hardly any stool in the washing machine. When using reusable nappies, the stool is collected by a liner. If you have a poopy diaper, you simply throw this in the trash, but if you have a pee diaper, you can wash the liner. You can simply wash the very thin water-soluble stools of a newborn baby. The washing machine rinses this away effortlessly in the first rinse cycle. Dirty idea? Then you can still use a (slightly thicker) insert👍 . ‘But my baby can't move properly in such a thick diaper, can it?’ Cloth diapers are wider between the legs than disposable diapers. Although some parents find this an unpleasant sight and are afraid for the development of their child, this wide position of the legs is extremely good for hip development. The wide cloth diaper pushes the legs slightly into the frog position. The femoral head is pressed properly into the hip socket, allowing the hips to develop optimally. Moreover, children have been in their mother's womb for nine months. It also feels very familiar to them! Fortunately, the wide position of the hips does not adversely affect freedom of movement. Children who wear reusable diapers simply roll, crawl and walk and are no slower in this than their peers who wear disposable diapers. . 'But isn't that wet feeling really sad?' A reusable diaper does indeed feel wet as soon as it has been wetted. Many children do not suffer from this at all, they were always wet in their mother's belly. Moreover, the diaper is nice and warm as long as your child wears it. Only when you take off the diaper does it cool down and become a cold wet diaper. Because the diaper feels wet after a pee, children quickly become aware of their peeing behavior. This contributes to faster toilet training. Does the wet diaper really bother your child? Then you can choose to place a fleece insert in the diaper. The diaper will therefore still feel dry after a pee. . Another ‘Yes but’ in the comments👇

I’ll be honest, if you don’t have a routine for your laundry 🧺 or laundry feels like a daunting task that builds anxiety then MAYBE adding a seperate small load of 2-5 nappies a day for a 30min wash might feel a hassle. But you don’t know til you try. It’s a habit. One short wash cycle of nappies a day and then your main wash every 3-4 days. And if you don’t have enough nappies to make a full load come the third/fourth day you can add small clothes and other things since your nappies are already pre-washed. 🧺 And because we’re human yes(!) I have days where I don’t want to put on that pre-wash load come the end of the day cause I’m exhausted, or I forget cause I’m a mum with a never ending list in my brain. But I’ve learnt to be kind to myself. Some days I do the prewash the next morning or the next evening with the next days load of nappies. It happens. I just factor in some good booster (Vanish) and let the machine do its thing. BUT the most IMPORTANT reason we pre-wash small loads daily on 40-60° is so nappies don’t build up ammonia which creates burns and rashes on our babies ⚠️ and it’s why I have learnt to make it a habit. #kokobums #kokobumsmodernclothnappy #modernclothnappies #modernclothnappy #modernclothdiapers

We’re all aware of the cost to buy cloth and disposable nappies but how about when we actually break that down!? It may not be as obvious as it appears on the face of it…. 💲Let’s look at cost per use, because with cloth nappies it’s how much you use them that determines the true cost! 🧷 How do we work this out you might ask… ⭐️Cost of nappy ÷ amount of times worn⭐️ Assuming that you use the nappy every 3rd day 🦊 one day on the bum 🦊 one day for washing 🦊 one day for drying 🔁 back on the bum Using from birth to toilet training (approx. 912.5 days): Cost of nappy ÷ days from birth to toilet training x 3 (wearing every 3rd day) = cost per use! ☝🏼check out our calculations in the above slides! Using cloth nappies really does makes a huge difference!☝🏼 When you add it all up that’s quite a huge saving 💰 and even better, you cloth nappy a second child with the same nappies, the cost for cloth gets halved! It also means the cost of disposables doubles… As per the final disclaimers slide: the above prices are all approximates based on the general amount of time it takes to toilet train and other factors which of course can vary from child to child and nappy cost to nappy cost.

2 in full time cloth nappies means we're always doing changes on the go while out and about...I love our @archer_and_i pods to store enough nappies for both kiddos, our mini wetbags to keep our reusable cloth wipes and our wetbags for all our dirty nappies and clothes and cloths from each outing.
