At home with Daisy 🌼 ~ in my opinion, if any type of photography session calls for a documentary approach, it’s a newborn session. After all, what’s more fleeting than this very moment with a new human, who is changing every single day? I want to document every second, exactly as it is. And that’s what we did when E & J invited me to meet their newest family member. E has been a dear friend to me for many years, with this now the third time we’ve worked together. It’s such a privilege watching her babies grow (and seeing that big puppy sister Winnie never changes) and witnessing how much love they fit into their home. Getting to gossip about trashy tv, motherhood, love and life in general is a massive bonus to every visit too. There’s something so calming and precious about newborn sessions - even if there’s crying, even if there’s an excited older sibling, even if you need three outfit changes. The chaos is what makes it beautiful. ✨ Capturing Love in the Golden Hour ✨ Remember Emily and Jesse from my last post? Their Casa Mio wedding was filled with unexpected rain, but it only added to the joyful chaos! 🌧️💞 However, they couldn't let go of their dream of golden hour portraits at their favorite spot by the headland. Alan & Jen, Jen & Alan | 1.1.24 These two lovebirds kicked off the newest day of the new year with a beautiful lovefest that had to be completely reimagined just days before. Jen dreamed of a backyard wedding on the family farm - a sunset ceremony under the mulberry tree, cocktails on the lawn and dancing under the stars. Her dad even built a dance floor and a shower block for everyone camping after the wedding. But with torrential rains on the radar, they had to switch gears. They hired a marquee so they could still say ‘I do’ in her childhood home, then kicked on to a beautiful backup - Nanaglen Hall. It might not have been the original plan, but I think it somehow turned out even better. Jen surprised everyone by speaking her vows in Spanish AND English. Friends and family spoke beautiful readings and played guitar. And Jen and Alan giggled and smiled and held hands and did the best first kiss ever. I cried. The rain held just long enough for us to sneak off for some post-ceremony portraits. I (very easily) convinced Jen to climb a fence to get pictures in a cute garden, we saw a train, popped champagne, ate pizza, and danced all night to the silent disco. Jen absolutely sparkled in a dress made for her by her insanely talented mum. Did I mention, Jen did her own flowers? Throughout the whole experience, Alan and Jen handled it like they handle everything life throws at them. Facing forward, hand in hand, together. With grace, love, understanding, and a little bit of cheekiness too. These two are a perfect fit for one another and I’m so honored to capture their love. Late September I made a return visit to Walindi in Papua New Guinea. I think this was my 10th visit - my first was in 1990. You probably will have guessed by now that Walindi is one of my favorite places. The purpose of this visit was to continue recording the beautiful reefs in Kimbe Bay, this time with my friend and model, Marie-Helene - the diver in my pictures. The Solitary Islands has incredible diving and Moon Wrasse are common. The sea is full of surprises. I recently found out that the Koch's Bottletail Squid is not a squid, but actually a species of cuttlefish...a little trickster in fact. This delightful mollusc has a mantle reaching no more than around 3 cm and is generally active during the night, which is when I shot this picture.
