Been too long but I’m still here…. Took some time off early this month before embarking on this ambitious project. So, I’m working towards my 2nd solo exhibition, which will happen in December 2025, 20 months to be exact. It may seem like I have a lot of time BUT to churn out 12-15 pieces of artwork at 20”x20” (51x51cm), I think it’s just good enough time frame. So this is my 1st piece. Lots of bright vibrant colours. A shell was the subject for this week's Alla Prima challenge & if you scroll right, the first slide shows where I stopped when the 30-minute timer went off. After a lunch break, I decided to see how much further I could go, wanting to capture the pearly shine of the shell I'd chosen. This apple 🍎 was painted in 30 minutes, with a 5 strokes per palette draw (meaning scoop up some paint from your palette, paint 5 or less strokes then reload brush or wipe/wash off & scoop more paint, repeat) & no pre-mixing of paint allowed before the timer starts. It's an online Alla Prima challenge that happens live every Thursday, an opportunity to grow my oil painting skills by doing the work instead of just watching or reading about painting. I'm beyond thrilled to share that this painting is an award winner!! Today I found out that it won first place in the Let's Face It 2023 end of the year art exhibit, and it also won the People's Choice Award!! This online workshop is attended by artists from around the world, with so many gorgeous submissions.
