7 weeks out from (average) last frost and not much planting progress this week. Most of my time was spent preparing for, and adjusting to, working from home. Temps were still a touch too chilly to work outside so instead I spent some time researching plant varieties and reading up on seed saving! I did get one major project done though - with help from my guy, we built an improved seedling shelf! If I build it, they will grow, right? Or something like that... Anywho, said seedlings got some bottom-watering time today and I'm glad I didn't plant my kale yet after all, since we're supposed to get 1-3" of snow tonight!? 8 weeks out from last frost! The last of my pepper seeds are going into nursery pots, along with a few varieties of tomatoes. We took advantage of the sunshine today and built a simple compost "bin" in an otherwise unused corner of our backyard, and it was finally warm enough in the garage for Adam to get in some smithing time! While he was doing that, I had a chance to amend last year's soil and partially refilled one of my raised beds with mulch and this beautiful mix, ready for transplanting as soon as it's warm enough. 9 weeks out from last frost! Our first seedling tray is full with some awesome pepper varieties that we're really excited to try this year, and we even have a few shoots popping up on our Poblanos, Filius Blue, and Jimmy Nardellos! Yesterday was a gorgeous sunshiney day, which we spent outside thawing/drying last year's soil so I can amend it with compost and plant food for this season. We also reorganized our garage for more usable space and even got my potting bench set up! This week I'm going to focus on journaling everything we're growing this year, as well as taking stock of what supplies we already have/what we'll have to buy.
