{{In continuation of my last post: Lulu was the daughter of photographer CF Schroeder.}} After years of poor health, seventeen year old Lulu Schroeder was finally doing better. So much so that she was visiting friends in De Pere for a few days in 1885. She spent what was surely nothing short of a splendid summer evening out boating with friends on Wednesday, August 19th. As they floated along, Lulu collected water lilies. Enamoured with their beauty, she casually remarked: “Girls, when I die I want water lilies scattered over me.” The very next morning, Lulu became violently ill. She succumbed to spinal meningitis by 11 o’clock Thursday night, and died on August 20th, 1885. Lulu’s funeral was conducted from her family’s home in Green Bay on Sunday, and the newspaper said it was one of the largest ever held in the city. The Schroeder house was completely filled and mourners assembled in the surrounding neighborhood streets. Friends and family passed through the house in a long line to view the loved face for the last time. Six ladies and six gentlemen served as her pall-bearers, all bore water lilies. Forty carriages comprised the procession to Woodlawn Cemetery, and a great many more were also on foot- including 150+ members of the local Good Templars Lodge, of which Lulu was an officer. They all had mourning badges and many carried water lilies as well. There was a great profusion of flowers at the graveside. In addition to a Baptist Minister, the Good Templars performed a memorial service, which included a reading of the Resolution of Condolence they had passed in Lulu’s honor. Before her grave was filled, many water lilies- cast by shocked and sorrowful hands- were scattered over Lulu… just as she had hauntingly requested four days earlier. She was laid to rest with her little brother Frederick who died in 1874, and their parents would join them in the family plot about 35 years later. Lulu may have had a different headstone originally, but today the four Schroeders share a modern looking family monument, with matching blocky footstone markers for each. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

My friend Steve died. We’d lost touch after I deleted FB in 2020 but I remember all the fun times we had together since meeting in HS. We decorated the local BK lounge with tiny paper mache Elves that were creepy AF & laughing all the way to the bank with the $$$ they paid us so we could buy new docs and records at 💥 SMASH in Georgetown. I used to love picking him up for shows and parties as he mentioned no one would bc of his size. I thought it was such fun to have such a large and interesting character as my friend. He protected me just from his sheer presence and quick wit when I was aloof. We enjoyed listening to records and making mix tapes for one another sticking in the strangest samples and music we could find. We ate pizza 🍕 at “the hut” and smoked outside laughing hilariously at one another with our non sequitur humor. He was always down to go on an adventure at any time. I always enjoyed his company. Memory bears are one of my favourite items to make. I was recently asked if I could do some bears and some cushions from a much loved family members favourite shirts. NaturallyI said yes, even though I hadn't done cushions before I knew I would figure it out. I could feel the love for this gentleman through the mesages his lovely widow. Evelyn sent and the stories she told me. I was lucky enough to be able to meet with Evelyn when the order was complete. She met me at the park where I usually have lunch, and we just chatted away like we weren't strangers. This Dearly Departed is for a person who is still among us. Nicolas Cage born Nicolas Kim Coppola in January 7, 1964 in Long Beach California. He is the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola. One of Cage's first roles was in 'Fast Time as Ridgemont High' and follow up by “Valley Girl”. He had a slew of other roles and cult classic films, but it wasn't until the mid 90's Cage had bigger success. Movies like “Leaving Las Vegas, “The Rock”, “Con Air”, and “Faceoff”. The early 2000's saw cage in movies such as “Gone in 60 seconds” , “ The Family Man” and “National Treasure” Cage has been married five times and his list of ex wives include, Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie Presley, with a few other marriages lasting only literal days. In 2007 Cage purchased the LaLaurie Mansion in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was foreclosed on in 2009 when he ran into financial issues. The mansion has its own history of torture of slaves by the previous owner Delphine LaLaurie. Nicolas Cage's grave is that of a pyramid in the oldest cemetery in New Orleans. The cemetery also houses the famous voodoo priestess Marie Laveau. The rumor is that after Nicolas owned the haunted and torturous LaLaurie Mansion that he may be absolved of some of the sin of owning the property by being buried near the famed voodoo occultist. There is no real proof of that, but it is something that probably makes the tourists connect the dots as to why he may want to be buried there.
