6TH STREET - Milwaukee has been awarded a massive $36.6million grant from the US Department of Transportation to rebuild & redesign 2.6-miles of 6th St to make it safer for not just drivers, but bikers and pedestrians as well. 6th Street from W National Ave on the city’s south side to W North Ave on the city’s north side will be rebuilt– a massive change for Walker’s Point, Kilbourntown, Hillside, Haymarket, Halyard Park, Bronzeville, and Harambee. The plan will see that the number of vehicle lanes & right-turn “bypass” lanes are reduced, new trees will be added, sidewalks will be widened, separated bike lanes will be implemented, and transit lanes & “enhanced transit stops” will be installed where it’s seen fit. The project will also include upgrades to the city’s sewer system. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently in the conceptual stage of planning. The DPW will allow for the public to provide feedback in 2025. Construction is expected to start in 2027 and be completed in 2029. Rebuilding 6th Street was one of the projects mentioned in the 2040 Downtown Plan, which has been pinned to the top of my profile. JUNEAUTOWN - On October 1st, Johnson Control’s lease of a full city block of buildings in Downtown Milwaukee will end, and Bear Real Estate will have the massive task of redeveloping 7 downtown buildings located on E Michigan St between Jefferson & Jackson. While exact plans haven’t been released, Bear has stated the redevelopment will largely involve converting a portion of the buildings into housing, with another portion of the buildings being renovated and turned into updated office space. Johnson Controls has relocated their downtown workforce to their Glendale offices located at 5757 N Green Bay Ave. The different buildings on the property were built in 1902, 1910, 1952, and 2000. Trauma rewires your brain and so can healing. When a trauma happens, it changes how our brain typically processes things. Instead of going through the usual channels, the distressing images and sensations from the trauma head straight to our emotional control center, the limbic system, skipping the brain's "logic and reasoning" step. 𝘼𝙍𝙏 can give the brain a second chance to process what happened, with the help of eye movements. By having the client imagine the trauma and then using these eye movements, the therapy aims to "erase" those negative images and sensations. The result? 𝘼𝙍𝙏 has shown to disarm those anxiety alarm bells in the limbic system that tend to be overly cautious and make us super jumpy (hypervigilant). Hypervigilance prevents you from enjoying your life. You can be easily startled, quick to anger, have difficulty relaxing and sleeping, constantly worry, suffer from intrusive thoughts and be overly avoidant of scary situations. During 𝘼𝙍𝙏, the client can almost "dream" up a positive scenario in their mind's eye. They can change those distressing images into something positive using eye movements. 🎶It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor! Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Please won’t you be my neighbor!🎵 We stopped at Paul’s Neighborhood Bar tonight in Middleton for an old-fashioned Wisconsin fish fry, paired with gleeful chatter and birthday celebrations. I hope you’re ready to dissect tonight’s meal together! The Tartar Sauce - 10/10 - When there’s a squeeze bottle of tartar on the table, you know the establishment means business. This masterpiece held the perfect amount of sour dill mixed with a creamy mayo base and scored high points for easy accessibility. The Fish - 3.5/10 - This was a tough one to chew…literally and figuratively. My pieces of cod were hard and stringy, however the few flaky bites I had were pretty good. The baked cod looked moist, but it was served cold which wasn’t fabulous. The Potato - 5/10 - Average, the fries were nothing to write home about. The birthday girl at the table ordered loaded hashbrowns, and I suffered FOMO from across the table. She gave them two thumbs up, so I bumped this score up a tad. The Sides - 5/10 - The salad bar was stocked and loaded, but the bowls were so small it made me chuckle. We noticed we missed out on coleslaw and dinner rolls and agreed it was odd, so we spoke up to our waitress. After most of us were finished with our plates, the sides finally made their debut on the table. The coleslaw was good, but a little bland. The dinner roll substituted dessert and offered a warm buttery finale. The Atmosphere + Price - 6/10 - Unfortunately, I was let down this evening. Save your Friday for another spot and come back to Paul’s for one of their iconic meat raffles.🥩 This all-you-can-eat fish fry includes your choice of baked cod, deep fried cod, or perch (ocean) paired with coleslaw, a dinner roll, and side of potatoes for $15.75. For only $3 more take a stroll down the salad bar aisle to curb your hunger before dinner is served.
