How about hiking in and out of clouds?!! ⛅️☁️☁️🥾 Yesterday my friend Kim and I left OC early and headed out to an extraordinarily beautiful area of the Los Padres National Forest that neither of us had ever explored before! We were oohing and aahing our way to the lookout and back…. unbelievable!!! 🌲🌲🪵🌼🪻A beautiful fire road lined with thousands of lupines and poppies, old gnarly oak trees and gorgeous pines - and clouds hanging low on the mountains surrounding us! While in the clouds the sweet little poppies were closed up, still sleeping, but as we gained more elevation and stepped out of the clouds, they were wide awake and reaching for the sunlight! ☀️☀️ It truly felt magical, like never before! 🙏🏻🤍 (photos by me and Kim, unedited) 🪻🌲🪻

H I K E 3 3📍P A S A D E N A 🌹 Spent the morning with my coworker and friend, Kim, as we logged six miles and gained 1,345 ft of elevation to Henninger Flats in the San Gabriel Mountains. Perfect hiking conditions with cool temps as the sun struggled to break through the marine layer/fog unsuccessfully…. great time hiking and chatting, planning future hikes as well! We caught the tail end of the Farmers Market before they packed up 🥕🍊🌽🍯 and my little hiking buddy chased after roadrunners, squirrels and rabbits, wearing herself out…. 🐦⬛🐇🐿️ Headed south for Taco Tuesday 🌮 that ended with a bang 💥 when a bird flew into a transformer and rendered the restaurant without power 😳 (it got dark and cozy though 😉) This Tuesday rocked! 💯

H I K E 2 7📍F A L L B R O O K 🥑 This hike took me on a mini road trip through the tiny town of Rainbow 🌈 and into Fallbrook ~ the avocado capital of the world! 🥑 🙌🏻 Charming little country roads with fruit and vegetable stands along the way! 🍓🍇🥕🥑 Why this trail has not been on my radar is beyond me! 🤷🏻♀️ The Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve is a total gem! 💯 We hiked 4.7 miles before the littlest hiker got tired… the river is full and beautiful, babbling brooks along the trail, plenty of shade under the oak trees, wildflowers, and splashes of purple, 💜 heavenly smelling bushes throughout the trail and in the surrounding hills! Green vegetation galore thanks to all the rain, I’m so happy to have spent my morning here, and hoping to be back soon again! 🙏🏻💚🌿🪻☀️🥾🐶🐾🦋

H I K E 2 5📍O A K G L E N 🍎 This short and sweet (2 mile) hike was the second one for Tuesday. My coworkers/friends and I ended up in Oak Glen in a roundabout way…. our plan was to check out the wildflowers at Diamond Valley Lake, so we headed out there without checking their opening hours 😳 turns out they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays… 😩 We immediately decided to take the backroads to Oak Glen ~!through Cherry Valley, in order to “salvage” the day! 🍒🍎 Zero regrets! First stop @rileysfarm76 and from there onto @oakglenpreserve for camera ready bird watching! 🦆🐦⬛📷 And of course, you don’t leave Oak Glen without stopping at @appleannies_oakglen to pick up a pie (or two😉) in my case, a blueberry/apple pie! 😋🥧 Good day indeed! ❤️

Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time, and as luck would have it, we ran into our sweet friends, Roxy & Kate, (last two pictures) as we were leaving the park. Two other sweet gals showed up for part of the 7 miles we logged! 🥾☘️☀️ Hiking is so much more than a physical activity, it’s real therapy for my soul. I love running on lunch. Yeah, it's only an hour - well 50-55 unless you're able to jump straight back in to work like a sweaty mess (100% me). I tend to do my faster workouts on lunch as I know im time-restricted and need to be back, which means it's a chance for me to 'test' where I'm at. H I K E 2 2📍I S L A V I S T A 🐚 Shrouded in morning fog, the “Lagoon” was slowly waking up, and for a brief moment it felt like fall… I love grey, misty mornings and I purposely left home at 4:30 am to make sure I’d catch that cozy marine layer in Santa Barbara. There’s an abundance of wildflowers, but only one little poppy was “awake” 🧡 I can’t possibly be the only one who thinks grey, moist mornings are the absolute best!? 🤍 4.2 miles worth ever step! 🙏🏻☺️🥾🌼🕸️🐳

H I K E 2 0📍I R V I N E 🌱 🪺 Tuesday morning hike with a couple of my coworkers at Caspers Wilderness Park. This place is huge, 8,000 acres! 😳 Trails everywhere and the nicest rangers ever! After hiking and exploring, we continued on Ortega Highway to the Candy Store for sandwich and hotdog lunch 🥪 🌭😋 Before heading back, we stopped at a waterfall along the highway that had quite a bit of water rushing through, I was sad to see that the rocks around the fall were graffiti covered…. why? 😢

Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out they've got a second-William James I decided to get in my 20 Miler today since we are flying back to TX Saturday. The plan looked great on paper until I-foolishly-did weighted squats this morning at the gym. I started out strong on the run, but, was kinda over-it by Mi 12. I seriously considered calling it quits--thinking "I'll just do it Sunday". I was 6 Miles from home...so I kept running...away from home for another mile before circling back. I got my head back in the game, and, a strange thing happened: I picked my pace back up and got my second wind. Go figure 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ With only 31 days until race day, I promised myself that I'll be more respectful of my training plan and won't pretend that I'm indestructible. Plus, I remembered that I'm an old lady 😂. HIKE 100, BABY 🥳🥰 I spent my 100th hike with some great people who I've shared trails with this past year. My "first" hike was back in August 2017 (although I spent my whole childhood wandering the woods lol). I know for a fact my next 100 hikes won't take me almost 7 years & I look forward to all of them. Some days I feel like I'm just holding on waiting for my next hike (I know that sounds dramatic but its true). H I K E S 1 8 & 1 9📍S W E D E N 🇸🇪 My cousin Maria and I started with a forest hike in the morning, along with her family dog, Enzo 🖤 The afternoon was spent urban hiking through Gamla Stan (Olde Town) Stockholm. I’ve had the great fortune to have been born into a large and wonderful family on my dad’s side, we’re a total of 16 cousins, 😅 and as life marches on, when I see my family ~ we pick up right where we left off! ❤️ This was my last full day in Sweden, and we truly made the most of it!
