A park-used jack-o’-lantern from the Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland. For every holiday season since 2001, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion is re-themed with a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, and the attraction is filled with characters, music, and decorations inspired by the classic movie. And every year these little grinning, illuminated pumpkins can be found among the Tim Burton-inspired decorations. These little guys can be seen most prominently in the ballroom scene, hanging from the garland that drapes the staircase, but they can also be found sprinkled around other parts of the estate. In the past they’ve been seen decorating barren Christmas trees in front of the endless hallway, lurking among the plants of the conservatory, accenting the gingerbread house, gathering dust in the attic, and even outside, sitting atop the hearse. This particular example still retains its electronics, with wiring hidden in the vines and an LED visible behind its eyes. There are, however, still some costume restrictions and this particular sign reminds guests of these rules. Fifteen years later, in October 1986, WDW celebrated its 15th anniversary. A park-used Main Street USA trash can plaque. Themed plaques like these were made specifically for the various “lands” within the Disney parks; this one came from Main Street in Walt Disney World. Realized in cold-cast bronze, this 90s-era sign was originally mounted to a Mills Engineering Lit-R-Gard garbage receptacle via the four bolts built into the back of the plaque. This type of covered, enclosed waste can that is now ubiquitous in amusement parks, restaurants, and shopping malls throughout the world was actually designed by Walt himself, who famously disliked the sight of garbage in his park. Two years ago today we flew down to Disney for our longest Disney trip. We started our trip off property (first time) for 4 nights. I was able to catch this great shot of the Disney World sign. Then we spent 4 nights on property. It was a great trip even though when I planned it I had no idea this week is Spring break in Florida 😯 so the parks are crazy busy. I've see a lot of posts online with people saying that they are mad at Disney for doing the sign updates, but not for paying for more Cast Members to work in the parks. Think about it this way, there are Cast Members that have to do the updates and they are getting paid while they work and the money for the updates is part of a completely different budget then the payment to the Cast Members. Also, the money wouldn't last for very long if they gave it to the other Cast Members. So, would you rather the Cast Members doing the updates be let go like the other Cast Members and see the sign the way it is now, or would you rather see the updates and see Disney keep some of there Cast Members working? Super sad as today should have been travel day. 🥺 Gatwick (inc V-Lounge) to Manchester International. Then transfer to @hardrockhotels on-site at @universalorlando. Although we had a week booked at Universal we would have loved a day trip to Disney too, especially to the Mickey’s Not So Scary party, but alas it was not meant to be.
