Last year Travel + Leisure ranked the Best U.S. Resorts for Families (ranked according to readers). There were a good amount of Disney resorts on the list, but let’s talk about the highest ranked at WDW. 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 🏨 🦒 • Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) was the highest ranked WDW resort on the list. The only other resort that made the list was Beach Club (BC). Funny enough AKL is my top choice for those who aren’t visiting the parks, and BC is my favorite WDW resort in general. But of the 20+ resorts at WDW, why AKL above all others. Well the predominant answer is described by the article as “a surreal sense of place”…… it’s the savanna of course! But more important than the savanna itself, in order to be ranked the 13th best family resort in the country, is how Disney utilized its savanna theming to create unique experiences. The diversity and nature (no pun intended) of these activities and experiences are what sets this resort above the rest. There are a variety of both animal and cultural activities that everyone in the family will likely enjoy. There are animal spotting activities (even ones that include night vision goggles), programs including helping prepare food for the animals, culinary tours, art tours, art and design classes like cookie decorating, etc. And most of these are guided and lead by an expert. This is a huge reason why I pick AKL as the best for a resort only stay. There’s so much to do and a lot of it is super educational in a fun environment. This is also why I love that the cultural representative program has returned to Disney World. Not even mentioned in the ranking description is how, in my opinion, AKL has the best overall dining lineup top to bottom - from pool bar to signature restaurant and everything in between. Obviously there’s room for debate there, but I think even the overall reviews of each and every dining option here are strong evidence of that. But yeah, Animal Kingdom Lodge…… if not for a stay, it’s a least worth a visit for sure.

But like have you SEEN Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil????? 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 ✍️ 🎪 • This is the best show on Disney Property……… this is the best show on Disney Property……… however, I should hope so, considering tickets start at around $75/person. But really, this show was quite spectacular. That’s the best word I can give it. The acrobatics were amazing, the choreography was expansive - there’s so much going on, and the whole show told a moving story in a pretty comedic fashion. There’s no video or photography allowed during the show, but some of these clips of pre-show antics and activities gives a sneak peak of the kinda vibe you’re in for. I really like how they invite kids up to the stage to draw before the show starts. They even display their drawings on the screen and the whole crowd cheers! 🥲 Like I mentioned earlier, this isn’t the cheapest show but in my opinion the prices are well worth it. The show is 90 minutes long but I was definitely hungry for more!

The easily missable Toy Story section at All Star Movies! 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 👨🚀 🤠 • Even if you’re a frequent visitor of the hotel, this section of All Star Movies can be really easy to miss. It’s not only the southernmost area of Movies, but it’s the southernmost area of the entire All Star Resorts trio. So there’s no essentially zero through traffic. Also, by design it’s made to look like Andy’s room. So much so that the area is blocked off by a giant wall and a door that’s slightly ajar. It’s an area that at first glance looks like a dead end. But if you don’t walk through that giant door, you’re missing out on a lot of great theming. Theming that includes a 25 foot Woody, and a 35 foot Buzz Lightyear. Both of which are bigger and taller than their Toy Story Land counterparts!

2019 was my first time experiencing EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts. I am a creative at my core and I really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful art shared in EPCOT at every turn. Soarin’ is one of my top two rides in all the parks and it always brings me so much joy. Riding this time was no exception—I was in my happy place for sure. I loved this little Snow White wishing well. (Show me your cute wishing well pics!) Daisy is one of my favorite characters for so many reasons but I couldn’t justify waiting in line to see her when there was so much else to uncover. Yes, between the trackless vehicles, the scenes, and the screens, this is a pretty impressive ride. But it’s these very features that can trigger motion sickness in some. This attraction is a 3D film within 4D experience. You will be given 3D glasses, and since you’re shrunk to the size of a rat, your journey through the kitchen will get a little frantic. The ride vehicles themselves, in addition to being trackless, are set atop circular platforms. These platforms allow for a variety of movements like spinning and tilting. For perspective, not even the Rise of the Resistance vehicles can tilt like these. Combine this with the many large 3D screens throughout, and you could end up having a bit too much fun. In truth, the physical motion here is not likely to make you sick, it’s what’s going on with all the screens. So if you have a history of motion sickness from 3D films, handle this ride the same way you would any of those films.
Had a good time at Disney with my mom and Skyler. We stayed at the Polynesian Resort which is one of our favorites and got to enjoy some cooler weather. Finally saw the new Epcot fireworks show and the Flower & Garden festival. Today we went to Hollywood Studios and I got to meet the Mandalorian and Grogu. The song at it’s a small world tends to take the brunt of critique for this attraction…… but would you like to hear the original idea???? 🎶 🌎 🎶 🌎 🎶 🌎 🎶 🌎 🎶 🌎 🎶 🌎 🎶 🌎 🎶 • So originally, Walt Disney wanted the national anthem of each country to play while you passed through the different scenes of the attraction. Could you imagine what that would’ve sounded like…… how that experience would’ve been. The national anthems around the world weren’t exactly created with the concern of sounding cohesive with other national anthems. No, I think creating one song that’s simple and easily translated into other languages was a much better play. And hey, the song may get stuck in your head, but I think the original idea would’ve sound like a bad DJ at best and painful for the eardrums at worst. Side note: Since it’s a small world is played on loop in 5 Disney parks around the world, it’s actually the most performed song of all time! (You got off easy, Shanghai!)
