The show takes place in a purpose built 10,000 seat amphitheater. During the late 1980s when Michael Eisner was still new at Disney and looking for ways to expand the company. A few years before The Living Seas had opened at EPCOT Center to compete with Sea World and now Universal was opening a new park. Michael Eisner liked the proposed Great Movie Ride for the show business pavilion for EPCOT Center’s Future World West so much that he decided to build an entirely new park around it, Disney’s MGM Studios. In the original plans, when the ride was going to be at Epcot, it was going to have the name “Great Moments at the Movies”. The Great Movie ride actually used a ride system very similar to the Universe of Energy attraction at EPCOT Center. The ride was a specular 22 minute ride through the movies including: Footlight Parade, Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins, The Public Enemy, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne westerns, Alien, Indiana Jones, horror films, Tarzan, Casablanca, Fantasia, and The Wizard of Oz. Unfortunately, The Great Movie Ride closed on August 13, 2017 and in 2020 was replaced by the uncreative Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. °•° Here are some fun facts about The Great Movie Ride: •In the Indiana Jones scene, there was a wall of hieroglyphics; on that wall were pictures of Donald and Mickey and well as C3PO and R2D2. •The Fantasia scene almost wasn’t in the ride. It was originally intended to be the tornado scene from The Wizard of Oz, hence the blowing wind however, due to a contractual agreement with MGM, Disney could only use two scenes from the movie instead of three. •If you had a B show (the gangster scene, the car’s license plate was 021-429, a reference to the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre on February 14, 1929. •A well-known fact is that the plane in the Casablanca scene was cut in half; the back part of the plane is still visible today at Magic Kingdom on The Jungle Cruise. ⭐️Caribbean Beach Resort Review ⭐️ This was a new resort for us and I gotta say, I’m a big fan of CBR 🙌🏻 🐚We were in the updated “Under the Sea” rooms which is only located in the Trinidad Building. Our room was (two) standard, 5th sleeper rooms that connected to one another. It had plenty of space for us, our four children, two strollers, 5 pieces of luggage between the two rooms. We were in Building 34 which was a quick walk to the Skyliner (a must-have on the Tim Kubis list) and a short walk to the main pool. There also was a smaller pool next to our building 🐚 Favorite take-aways from the resort: 🌴Skyliner access 🌴Updated theming of the rooms 🌴The pool! The kids loved the “kiddie pool with slides” and the large pool with slides 🌴Location on Disney property overall 🌴Can watch the Epcot fireworks from the beach 🌴The Caribbean feel to the resort and fun atmosphere 🌴Variety of rest day” kid activities at the resort 🌴Enjoyed the menu options and the food there Some “knocks” on the resort ❌ There’s no elevators so it would not be a resort I’d book if someone couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs (or carrying two double strollers). The resort definitely would accommodate if you needed to be on the bottom level though. ❌Making multiple stops at CBR on the bus for each “island” group of rooms. Not a huge deal but just a knock on it. Overall, I’d definitely book CBR again and can now understand why my guests love to repeat book it‼️ What questions do you have about CBR?!
