I am exhibiting at the Capitol Hill Art Workshop and at Saturday’s opening of “Layers,” curated by Bryan Jernigan and hosted by Capitol Hill Arts League, I was more than honored to receive the Best of Show award. I haven’t exhibited in a few years, with the exception of some close friends curating my work for shows. This has honestly been out of fear of rejection, insecurity, and a busy schedule. This was a regional exhibition, so it was really nice to submit work to an open call and not only be selected but also have the honor of “1st place” and a cash prize. The ‘Aquarian Angel/ Aquarian Night’ boots! Ah! My heart! I hadn’t even finished painting the back of the right boot! Anne saw them set up on display as the pair I was painting as samples of my custom shoe commissions at the Artomatic market. She saw them and said “Oh my god these are mine! What size? Can I try them on… How much?” Of all the moments for this to happen our square reader was down and cell service struggling… Anne asked her husband to go find a ATM for cash and gave me her contact so that I could let her know when I was done — swipe to see how put her contact in my phone 😆! She wasn’t joking the boots were going home with her. I let them know I needed to finish the back. They said they’d be back for them. Sure-nuf Anne’s husband popped back in before the end of the market, cash in hand. Turns out they’d stopped into @artomatic_dc to see a friends exhibit and check out the market.
