Balto and his team braved a 674-mile journey to deliver the life-saving medicine to Nome, where an outbreak threatened lives. Despite harsh, cold conditions, Balto's endurance and determination saved countless children from the deadly disease. ❄️ His courageous feat earned him nationwide fame, and a statue was erected in New York City's Central Park to honour his heroism! So whilst I was away on holiday at the beginning of the month, I did some tattoo's for a charity event, where I raised over £350 for the Spinone Rehome & Health Fund (which is set up to get homes for the poor Spinoni cast out in Italy when they cannot hunt). You know us, everything has to involve dogs... even the world cup! So when we saw this story by @ahistoryofdogs we were amazed! Meet Pickles! Have you ever heard of him? Well, fun fact! In 1966, the World Cup trophy was stolen from central London where it was being exhibited. One week after the theft, Pickles sniffed out the missing trophy while out on a walk. It was wrapped in old newspapers, tied with string, and hidden at the bottom of a garden hedge in South London! Just four months later, the World Cup tournament was held in London where England, the home team, won! To celebrate and reward Pickles, he was invited as guest of honor to the official team celebration banquet! What an incredible little pooch!🤩 So, Pickles is obviously rooting for England. We apologise for the daily upsetting content that we are uploading lately..but the reality it’s clear: more dogs are being dumped and more dogs are struggling to survive. Imagine being a beloved pet, you have a safe place where to live, you have a roof, you have a daily supply of water and food. When you are sick you receive medical care, when you are scared you are comforted. You have people who will protect you no matter what and you worship them. They are your entire world and you are very loyal to them. You love them deeply. But one day your life changes completely: your people are gone, you find yourself in the street with no access to water or food, you are under heavy rains or the scorching hot sun. On the street you don’t see familiar faces, you are disoriented and scared. There are a lot of other dogs defending their territory. You start to aimlessly wonder the streets looking for your people. You call your owners. You haul and run for hours but no one comes.. you are all alone now. No food, no water, no shelter, no medicines, no love.. and you don’t understand why 😞 you don’t know how to live on the streets alone. Our heart breaks into million pieces for every pet that gets dumped. We hear your cry for help buddy and we will make sure you don’t have to cry no more! 😭 This dog was found by some animal lovers who clearly saw how much in distress skinny this dog was in an unfamiliar territory with no access to food. We named him Rogen, he is very emaciated, he suffers from tick fever (babesiosis) and fungal infection. •One of my favourite purchases from crufts has to be this show collar from #nowzad Nowzad are a company that supply a safe workplace for Afghan women who have lost their husband in war. The women get paid the living wage to make these artisan creations for animals. This beautiful collar was only £5 at crufts at the weekend and it was well worth it knowing that the money was also going towards such a great cause!
