Scientist - Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires (1981). This is an album that unfortunately seems to have been embroiled in a little controversy recently. Reissues have come out under different names, ‘Junjo Presents The Evil Curse Of The Vampires’, and apparently some versions have even go so far as to completely remove Scientist’s name from the credits! It seems like a terrible shame that music as routinely fantastic and head spinning as this has been bogged down with questions of who did what, why, and what was most important. It’s a tough one to untangle, in broad terms it seems like Producer Vs Mixer with the Roots Radics contribution caught somewhere in the middle! Probably all three parties involved, Scientist, The Roots Radics and producer Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes deserve an equal share of the acclaim but leaving aside such disputes it’s fair to say that this album, from first note to last, is utterly magnificent! I feel like Scientist could easily prove the old saying ‘You Can’t Polish A Turd’ wrong, with even the basest of materials he could fashion a diamond! When the original material is as stunning as the ten tracks contained here you really know you are in for something special! In your minds eye you can picture Scientist low over the giant mixing board at King Tubby’s, at midnight on Friday the 13th no less, sweat breaking on his brow, his hands a blur, mixers and cross faders being shunted up, down and around, Plate Reverb pulsating, Vocals, drums and horns being chopped and split, pinging and shaking around the room, echo and wobble rolling out of the speakers! A truly magical album. I make no claims to being a dub reggae expert but if there is a better dub album out there I will be truly glad to hear it! (I’m happy to take recommendations!) An album where nothing could be added or taken away to make it any better! As close to perfection as you could possibly get! Genius from all involved! Giving Thanks for the opportunity to be working with man like @gnawa_londonuk Ambassador of Gnawa Music in London alongside @rijal_sawaden on back vocals. It's been a while since I've first heard music of Simo Lagnawi in his multiple bands on various stages in London. Looking 15 years back it always seemed inspiring. Feels sublime to actually be able to collaborate on the tune together now. I would also like to thank Nick Seaone & Eduardo for providing space to record in a pro studio at SAE Institute. Nick has helped me to establish myself as a music producer since day one and has been a vital guide during the years, so much love and respects. This tune wouldn't sound as alive without an incredible guitar recorded by an amazing @feelhovrin who is really a wizard of sound. Feel absolutely greateful for his participation on this track. I have been working on my Reggae/Dub/World Music album for the last couple of years now and can't be any happier to have "Free Africa" tune recorded last Friday as a part of it.
