#121 Bummed (1988)- The Happy Mondays We mentioned them yesterday so only fitting we look at the other half of the Madchester movement with The Happy Mondays. The group were innovators of merging indie rock with rave & house music to create a truly unique sound with remixes of tracks such as 'Hallelujah' & 'W.F.L.' being staples of the acid house Madchester movement. Fronted by lead singer Shaun Ryder whose voice isn't to everyone's taste certainly but you can't argue that the Happy Mondays certainly get you moving just like Bez. 'Bummed' is the group's 2nd album and fully embraces those rave & house themes which the group are best known for now. Tracks such as 'Wrote for Luck', 'Mad Cyril' & 'Lazyitis' are all classic Mondays' tracks and set the group on the path for huge success with their third album 'Pills n' Thrills & Bellyaches'. The group is still touring to date despite the passing of Ryder's brother and talented bass player, Paul Ryder. Shaun Ryder is also still touring with his other group Black Grape whilst forming Mantra of the Cosmos with Zak Starkey, Andy Bell and best friend Bez.
