It's International Womens Day today. A day to celebrate what women do to create the world that we live in. So why is it that some women feel it necessary to put other women down? You see it on social media Comments about other women's Body shape How they dress How clever or not clever they are Whether they look their age Do they use botox, fillers etc Who they are going out with, married to, etc Gay, straight, bi, trans or gender neutral It doesn't help when you hear these things, so we start to believe them. Only last week, someone on Linkedin commented that I was "too fat" to be a nutritionist! Charming! Obviously didn't understand that being a nutritionist is about healthy eating and not my body weight. BTW, I am at my ideal weight Thanks! Please stop labelling yourself negatively The problem is that labelling ourselves in a negative way can be self-perpetuating. If you label yourself as unfit that’s how you can end up staying as your mindset is setting you to fail. Often my clients think that they can’t lose weight as they tried before so they are already starting on the back foot. You’re creating your own reality and you can become stuck, identifying yourself only in this negative way. Defining yourself by the number of scales is a path to misery. International Pizza Day If I say "pizza" to you, what do you first think of? "oh I am on a diet, so I can't eat pizza" "I love pizza, but couldn't eat a whole one" "Pizza is my go-to emergency food" "ah, Italy" "Pizza is so unhealthy, it's junk food" We often think to put certain foods into categories of "good" and "bad" and pizza is sometimes pigeonholed into the "bad" category. I don't believe in "good" or "bad" foods, so pizza is still on my list of the occasional treat. I am a purist when it comes to pizza. Fresh dough, thin, good quality tomato base with mushrooms, red peppers and sometimes thinly sliced pancetta. We make our own tomato base and Lycopene is found in tomatoes, which are used to make the base sauce for pizzas. Lycopene helps to lower blood pressure and bring down high cholesterol. It's also more easily absorbed from cooked tomatoes as opposed to fresh tomatoes. It's International Picnic Week I love a picnic, even if the British weather can be against me. Nothing fancy for me. Sometimes it is just a salad, a bottle of water and a slice of cake. Occasionally we push the boat out and do chicken legs, scotch eggs and stuffed pitta bread. Plus a bottle of wine. During the lockdown in 2020, we even had picnics in our garden. For some reason, food tastes better outside. Healthy Protein Waffle I promised to share my Protein Waffle recipe. Here you go. Protein Waffle is a lot healthier than the usual waffle which has quite a fair bit of refined carbs. This is a great snack/breakfast option. Do give it a try! This recipe makes 4 pieces. Ingredients: Dry ingredients: 2 scoops of Protein Formula** (opt for clean, reputable brands Protein Formula). Chocolate and Vanilla are great flavour options. 2 tbsp wheat flour (for gf friends, opt for almond flour, rice flour) 1/4 tsp baking powder Pinch of salt Wet ingredients: 1 egg 1 tsp oil (I used virgin coconut oil) 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (you could opt for non-plant based milk or other plant-based milk) Method: 1. Use a hand whisk, whisk all the dry ingredients in a bowl to break out any lumps. 2. In a separate bowl, add wet ingredients together, and pour into the dry ingredients. Give it a good whisk to combine the batter well. 3. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes. You can heat up the waffle iron now. 4. Once hot, use oil spray to spray the waffle iron to avoid batter sticking to the iron. 5. Pour a laddle of batter and let it cook until the waffle iron indicator says ok. (I leave the waffle in there for another minute to create that crispy edge). 6. Served hot, with topping of fruits, dust with Protein Formula (in replacement of icing sugar). Alternatively, you could also grind some nuts to sprinkle on top. Note: 1. I did not add any sweetener to the batter. That's because the Protein Formula I used is already naturally sweetened slightly. 2. Sweetener is optional - maple syrup is recommended - use sparingly please, adjust according to your taste. 3. Am not here to promote any Protein Formula. Please opt for clean product. 4. As the batter is quite thin, you may also use this recipe for healthy crepe. 5. Basic waffle recipe here is really waist-line friendly, with little oil and refined carbs and zero sweetener. Enjoy! #healthyproteinwaffle #eatwelleatsmart

3rd step of breaking a bad habit. Making it Difficult Increase the number of steps between you and the bad habit. Use a commitment tool and limit your future choices to the ones that will benefit you in the long term. When it comes to healthy eating, I used to make sure that any treats in the house were stored away in the garage!! OK slightly drastic, but the thought of putting on shoes and a coat in winter would stop me! I used to track how well I was doing not eating unhealthy food. Tick off each day I didn’t drink wine or reach for a bar of chocolate. I only now healthy options in the house so I don’t have a wide choice of snacks.
