When we create space in the body we allow clarity to surface… Introducing you to the place where ideas are born. This is St Mary’s churchyard. A space where teenagers hang out at night smoking weed, a space where toddlers run and dog walkers gather. It’s also the exact place where the idea to host an ecstatic dance in Marlborough was born. Every time I came to the churchyard, where I often walk my dog I was reminded of the idea… I would dance along this path to my music 💃 On the 3rd time it dropped in (end of March) I ran with it. Not knowing the details or even where it would be held. Just choosing to take the next step. When we allow space in the body whether that’s through walking, any form of exercise or dancing we move energy, we move energy that wants to be freed from the body so that clarity can surface. We have been trained to live in our heads and ignore the wisdom in our bodies… however our bodies hold all of the answers, from what’s holding us back to what are our truest gifts. We need to create space to allow this. That’s exactly why I’ve created the ecstatic dance event. "Ecstatic Dance" came into my life around 2015. My brothers Mark and Kent spoke highly of the 5 Rhythms community, meditation, movement, exercise, and fun. I finally had a chance to try it when staying "off the Drive" (thank you Bettina and Jeni). With that first highly exhilarating experience, I was hooked. For me, Ecstatic Dance is not about being ecstatic. It's about being present. It's a chance to practice being "me", without judgement, in community. Sometimes joy surfaces on me, and sometimes sadness. I try to accept what is arising as best I can, and allow it to flow through my body as honestly as it will. Dance can heal. Interestingly, I usually dance with my eyes closed, and rarely dance with another. This is largely a solo practice, supported by others. This candid photo was taken in Mazunte during "Ecstatic Sunday" and came to me unbidden. It has inspired me to share, and so, like the dance, I accept what is and show up to the community as honestly as I can. Sending you love in your dance. Your path is exactly yours. WHAT A NIGHT! Mocktails + Movement brought an incredible group of some of the sweetest, friendliest and most fun people together to let go and move their bodies! We started with yoga, then all gathered on the lanai for a guided warm up circle. Then we danced to DJ Mantis! @jahwaken5d Everyone got hot and sweaty so we took much needed cooling off breaks with drinks at the @luckysipsna mocktail bar! She served up a @tostbeverages Rosé, Lavender Bliss and Ginger Dream. I can’t believe that i am back in my beloved Sacred Valley of Peru (it was a spontaneous decision i just took yesterday), the place where i had my very first encounter with conscious dancing around 7 years ago.
