Joy is that state when you finally let go of fear and find freedom. My fear was going to a festival by myself and not only did I do it, I had the BEST TIME EVER!! 🌻Det er noe eget med løvetann, syns jeg. Strålende vakker, gul og optimistisk stikker den hodet opp så snart det er vår. Mange ser på løvetannen som en uønsket ugressplante🌱. Men jeg har et mer primitivt instinkt når jeg ser den. Mat! For visste du at hele planten kan spises? Alt til sitt bruk. I denne suppen er det de små, grønne bladene jeg bruker. De har minst bitterhet. Og når du koker suppen riktig, blir smaken riktig spennende og krydret. Løvetannsuppe 2 porsjoner En spesiell suppe som smaker nydelig sammen med ferskt brød, god olje og en (vegansk) rømmeklatt. 5 dl unge løvetannblader 1 liten løk 2 gulrøtter 1 ss olivenolje 5 dl grønnsaksbuljong 5 dl melk (gjerne soya) sukker, salt og pepper etter smak Skyll løvetannbladene godt og renskjær dem. Smak på dem - er de veldig bitre, kan du forvelle dem i litt vann før bruk, og kaste kokevannet. Skrell løk og gulrot og kutt i terninger. Varm oljen i en vid gryte. Ha i løvetann, løk og gulrot og fres på middels varme til det hele mykner, ca. 15 minutter. Tilsett grønnsaksbuljong og melk. Kok opp og la småkoke i ca. 15 minutter. Kjør suppen jevn med en stavmikser eller i en blender. Smak til med sukker (hvis suppen fortsatt er bitter), salt og pepper. Server med godt brød 🍞, olje og en liten rømmeklatt. The final Yama is aparigraha: non-possessiveness. Feel like a broken record, but as a whole we should look at our attachments and what we value. I have been talking about this in my classes in regard to being attached to our bodies. We have to remember that we are not our bodies, we are vast, we are life. If we can practice coming to our mats like it was the first time, no attachment to how we showed up yesterday… I have also observed many vinyasa teachers needing surgery, and it’s made me wonder, if once we teach asanas and make it a business, do we forget about the yamas? What happened to brahmacharya, satya, ahimsa and, of course aparigraha.. This is a big reason on why I have been diving deeper into my studies, opening up to other ways to support myself and letting go of the attachment on what that looks like. Somatics has really lightened up my soul and made my body feel so yummy. Bridging the gap between the past and present during times of transition and uncertainty can leave you feeling off-centre. Often, you can feel unbalanced and lose focus when your life is in Flux. Yoga Off the Mat: Oh My Goodness! Some lessons repeat themselves 🤦🏼‍♀️. Before heading off to a workshop at Kripalu recently, I was attempting to wrap up some loose ends—groceries, laundry, etc—and visit my mother. As I headed out the door on a Saturday morning, I realized I had left my jacket— and my car key fob in the pocket— at a restaurant the night before. That happens, right? But the restaurant didn’t reopen until the evening. No worries, we all keep spare car keys in a safe place, don’t we? Only problem was I couldn’t remember where that safe place might be and could not locate my spare key😞. All the feelings started to flood in: self-flogging for not tidying up clutter and being more organized; imposter syndrome for priding myself on having my $#!& together and then not being able to drive my car; and disappointment with myself for disappointing myself AND my mother (can you say “mommy issues”🙄?) And then I reminded myself that we are all fallible human beings, and when big feelings arise, they usually run much deeper than the “trigger” (in this case, the missing key fob). So how did things resolve? I eventually got my jacket and key back when the restaurant reopened, and when I returned from the week long workshop, I began to address some clutter. And there it was! My key fob was hiding under a pile, right next to my Kripalu yoga book🤦🏼‍♀️🤪🤷‍♀️ Oh, the irony! Lessons? Sometimes we need to slow down, we need to address our clutter/stuff (whether that’s physical/mental/emotional or a combination), and we need to give ourselves the Grace of Compassion 😌 #grace #compassion #selfcompassion #myyogajoy #drrobertagarceau #elementalwellness #elemental_wellness #yogaoffthemat #lessons #human

“I felt really safe in your class” This week I had several new students in a Yin + Sound Bath class I taught. Two were new to the studio, two were new to yoga. All 4 stayed after class to chat and offer feedback about their experiences in the class. One student offered that she had felt really safe in the class, something she had never felt in the studio she came from. This comment touched me deeply, as the highest priority I endeavor to provide my students is a sanctuary where they feel safe, nurtured, and provided for. I know first hand that many times our bodies or our environments or even our minds can feel like unsafe spaces. My hope is that my classes are a place where students can learn to leave the ego chatter behind, to find stillness and quiet in their bodies. The more we practice this on the mat, the more we can find it off the mat. I am so deeply grateful for students who share feedback like this so that I too, as an instructor, can learn and grow, and better serve the students who walk through that studio door each week. Come practice with me. Still the mind, still the body. Allow yourself to just be.

I am a certified yoga instructor. I have been one since 2018. I also used to really hate yoga. It was boring and slow and not really a workout. It was a lot of stretching and holding poses and WHEN IS THIS STUPID CLASS GOING TO BE OVER?!?!? Eventually, I gave it one more try and I told myself I was going to go all in. And it has been one of the greatest outlets for me. Yoga definitely helps improve strength and flexibility. BUT, it also helps with stress and anxiety, and can counteract symptoms of depression. Yoga is the only exercise that has been repeatedly recommended by my doctors. And let's not forget the YOGA HIGH. The Yoga High is a natural high that many practicing yogis claim to feel during and after a yoga practice. It is a lightness, a feeling of lift, an overall joyful state where things that seemed stressful, annoying, or worrisome just don't seem that way anymore. The 4th Yama and one again that as I’m reading and diving into it again, I’m like wow- I needed to read this. I needed to be humbled by this… is brahmacharya- or moderation. Now depends on the text and where you are in your life and practice and how it serves you, but some say that it’s full celibacy. It’s not giving in or caving into any desires. It’s creating that mental strength. Then some text you look at that celibacy is until your 25-26 and then you get married and begin your family. I do like my physical touch with my partner, but being able to control our mind against our desires creates huge strength. Right now I need a lot more moderation in my phone/social use, beginning to use it for marketing and business but then getting stuck in the scroll hole. Seeing the pattern of it being used as distraction, and desire rather than for intention. We all go through different levels of sacrifice to make one goal or dream happen, and that too is practicing brahmacharya. Wanting to get to the next fitness level, so you eat whole food and sacrifice going out to eat. That takes strength and that moderation and determination is how we can achieve the next level. Stopping to find shalabasana arms periodically helps keep my gait steady and my breath moving freely. I couldn’t even get both arms behind my back without help one year ago. Cobra, camel, or locust pose with assist can be life changing for a paralyzed arm. Flipping your perspective can help you embrace uncertainty when you feel change on the horizon. I can hardly see myself living my life on my hands like some yogis. My handstand practice is not about that. When life feels uncertain, I find myself flipping my perspective. Inverting my perspective along with my body makes the familiar new and unfamiliar. I start playing with my fears, seeing them as a guide, learning to trust my strength and intuition. I lean into my fears as a catalyst for growth, approaching setbacks and challenges as opportunities and stepping stones. In the same way taking those little tiptoe steps to the top of your mat as a practice for setting up a solid and stable foundation towards handstands, cultivating the strength and resilience to navigate uncertainty requires a patient and steady approach. Finding balance becomes a delicate dance between effort and surrender. Striving too much can lead to rigidity and too much surrender results in collapse. Most days, I still find myself needing the proprioceptive feedback of a wall. I can accept that I still need that support. Each person in my support system is another brick in that wall that gives me a sense of security, helping me find a sense of safety and ease while harmonizing moments of surrender with effort, learning when to push and when to let go. Once I feel solid in my foundation, trusting myself, I step away from that wall unattached to the outcome, practicing Aparigrah (non-grasping).
