Research suggests that sleep plays a crucial role in the processing of emotional memories. In order for the Acute Stress Adaptive Protocol (ASAP) to be most effective, it should be administered 72 hours after a traumatic incident. Allowing for this 3-day period gives time for initial shock to settle, giving the individual a chance to stabilize and naturally process the memories during 3 sleep cycles before introducing EMDR-based techniques. Studies have demonstrated that during REM sleep, there are rhythmic interactions between the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex, which are believed to contribute to the reduction of distressing memories. First Responders who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event should be treated with the ASAP no sooner than 3 days afterward, and no longer than 30 days afterward, in order to reduce the risk of developing PTSD symptoms. 🦋Butterfly Tapping or Butterfly Hug is a Bilateral Movement or BLS Bilateral Stimulation technique that activates the parasympathetic nervous system working on the left & right hemisphere of the brain and supports to soothe dysregulated thoughts and feelings through this tapping process. You can practice this on your own for 2 to 3 minutes or until the distress has passed. This is a common technique used within the evidence based practice of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). *I incorporate different effective techiniques in trauma work. I am not a certified EMDR specialist however I received this technique as part of the Trauma Treatment certification. I find it very soothing 💚. 🦋Butterfly Tapping o Butterfly Hug (Marposa) es un movimiento bilateral o técnica de estimulación bilateral BLS que activa el sistema nervioso parasimpático que trabaja en el hemisferio izquierdo y derecho del cerebro y ayuda a calmar los pensamientos y sentimientos desregulados a través de este proceso de palmaditas.
