Point name: Buzz 14 Memorial Ultimate Adventure Map ID: 8 Description: On January 13, 1964 a Boeing B-52D bomber of the 484th Bombardment Wing, call sign “Buzz One Four” was flying from Westover AFB in Massachusetts to Turner AFB in Georgia. The aircraft experienced severe wind turbulence over Southwestern Pennsylvania which resulted in the structural failure of the vertical tail section, causing the aircraft to go out of control. The order to abandon the aircraft was given and 4 of the 5 crewmen were able to eject. The 5th crewman was unable to eject. Buzz One Four, armed with 2 Mk 53 nuclear bombs, crashed in blizzard conditions in Garrett County, Maryland. Three of the crewmen did not survive. 📍 Lassington Wood, Highnham, Gloucester. It’s bluebell season and this super cute little woodland, with a gorgeous play area next to it, has them in abundance! We followed the path round the edge of the woods and were treated to some gorgeous views over the fields, then we wound our way along the paths amongst the bluebells. The whole walk was only about a mile long, but it was SO pretty! Parking: Plenty of roadside parking. Facilities: None.

I have always wanted to have a Butte pasty, so today we grabbed some at the most unassuming little spot right across from the still working Continental Mine. I loved that they had a picture of miners right on the windows. The Continental mine is an open pit copper and molybdenum mine at Butte. The Continental pit is the only active mining operation at Butte. Why are pasties special? Well, they are a continuing (& practical) nod to Montana history. "Cornish miners preferred pasties because they were portable and filled with much-needed sustenance. So naturally with the incursion of Irish and Cornish immigrants during the gold rush, the pasty was introduced to our state. Miners used their shovels to reheat the pasties over the candles they wore on their heads. Some held it by its solid ridge specifically designed for grasping. Once the inner parts were consumed, the ridge was tossed about with the intention of keeping the ghost of dead miners satisfied. Hungry ghosts must not have been friendly ghosts. Since Morris Island is completely uninhabited, you are getting some incredible untouched beach, with high probability of finding some super old, shark teeth! Location: Herrington Manor Lake Ultimate Adventure Map ID: 5 Hard or soft launch: Soft Description: Herrington Manor offers boat rentals from Mid-April until mid October weather permitting. Canoes and Kayaks are available for rent at the concession from 10am until 5pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Before and after the summer season, rentals are available at the Park Office. Maryland has been installing cast metal Historical Markers along state roads signs since 1930. Today, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), in partnership with the Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), reviews marker applications while the MDOT State Highway Administration (SHA) funds, installs, and maintains the markers along state roads and property. Roosevelt to perform emergency natural resource conservation work on public lands. These range from State Parks and Forests, to Wildlife Management and Natural Environment Areas, but all of them offer great access to outdoor recreation! Park: Deep Creek Lake State Park Ultimate Adventure Map ID: 5 Staffed: Yes Type: State Park Description: Deep Creek Lake State Park is over 1,800 acres in size, and includes a one-mile shoreline along the lake, providing public access to the lake. Lake activities include motor boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, and canoeing. A campground has 112 campsites, 26 with electricity. Trails are used for hiking and mountain biking. The park's 6,000-square-foot Discovery Center offers exhibits on local plants and wildlife, including the American black bears occasionally seen in the campground, the lake and its watershed, conservation issues, and local coal and logging activities in addition to the daily educational programs about nature and the environment presented by naturalists, rangers, and volunteers.
