Some of my plates from the past for inspiration. Fasting and keto have given me a lot of freedom and I think this lifestyle offers the most variety. I'm flexible in this too, I have low-carb days when I usually have good quality carbohydrate for my first meal. For a few months now, I haven't been counting calories. I usually eat twice a day, fasting for at least 16 hours. What I've learned about my body in the last period is something I'm very grateful for. I don't have to count calories, I can be intuitive, I can snack, and my food is for me, not me for the food. What did you have for dinner IG friends? I am dipping my toe back into social media after a break to care for my Dad. He passed away peacefully after a long fight with COPD and heart disease. This post is about simple good food, my clients often ask how they can get enough protein in? As a 55 year old women protein is key,, and while care giving simplicity is key. I usually roast a chicken on Sunday’s as it takes 90 minutes cooking time. What I love about roast chicken is it’s simplicity. I literally smothered in avacado oil salt pepper and garlic powder. Roast at 400ish depending on your oven and bast every 20-30 minutes. Broke the fast 90 min early, I was way too hungry. Nice sweet, keto friendly treat. Ratio strawberry keto yogurt, a handful of both raspberries and blackberries, and 1/3c of NuTrail Keto Nut Granola Blueberry Cinnamon. The yogurt is THICK and mild. TLDR: Yes - Fasting is much easier when you are on the keto diet because the body is already accustomed to operating in a lower blood glucose state, burning fat, and producing and utilizing ketones. - This is one of the reasons why fasting is more challenging when you first start. Your body is not used to operating without having a frequent influx of glucose and when it doesn’t get it, it can respond with negative side effects like fatigue, mood swings, shakiness, and brain fog. - @cynthia_thurlow_ _thurlow_ and I were just chatting about a Newsbreak article in which doctors were quoted as saying these side effects are reasons why you shouldn’t fast. This is absolutely not the case. These side effects are a reason you SHOULD fast. They are signs that metabolic health and the ability to transition between different fuel sources is damaged and this needs to be fixed. Ironically enough, fasting and keto is exactly how you fix it. - I’ll make an extra note that this is why I don’t like the way we coddle ourselves when it comes to our health. Health is supposed to be challenging and we absolutely should have to go through some some discomfort to achieve it. It’s part of the journey.
