💙 Her Name is Samantha Walsh 💙 TW: Beating Samantha Walsh was a 31 year old Mother of Four from Lisduggan, Co. Waterford. She had completed an addiction programme in the year before her death. A week prior to her death, she had moved into an apartment in Waterford City as a squatter with a man she had met whilst on the treatment programme. 7 years ago today, on the 28th April 2017, Samantha was beaten to death in the apartment. The man she had been living with was subsequently arrested. The postmortem found that Samantha died from blunt force trauma to her head and face, with haemorrhage, inhalation of blood, and brain swelling. She had 10 lacerations on her head and face, and her nasal bones were fractured. Neck compression was a contributing factor in her death, and there was a fracture of the hyoid bone. The trial began in 2018, and he pleaded guilty to murdering Samantha. The court heard that Samantha had just returned from an AA meeting when she was killed. Gardaí were called to the apartment twice in the week Samantha was killed, and each time, they convinced him to leave, but he and Samantha later made up, and he moved back in. It's estimated that Samantha was killed at 1am. He went to their neighbour at 9am, telling him that Samantha had left at 7am. to visit her children and that she would be gone for the week. He and the neighbour then collected their dole and bought heroin, going back to the neighbour's apartment to smoke it. After he overdosed and became unconscious, the neighbour and his partner later called the emergency services. While treating him, the paramedic discovered a note, saying that he had murdered Samantha and that she was in the bedroom. He was found guilty of murdering Samantha and was sentenced to life in prison. In his victim impact statement, Samantha’s brother said: "(She was a) loving daughter, mother, sister, and auntie, who always had a smile on her face... she had a kind and helpful nature and was beautiful, inside and out." On the 7th Anniversary of her death, we are thinking of Samantha and her family today and always. Her Name is Samantha Walsh, may she rest in peace 💙

A Liliana była zbyt dobra na niego. Ona po prostu chciała się poczuć chroniona przez kogoś. A on to wykorzystał. I to dobrze. Standing alongside @con.connie.constance in silence, as we listened to 32 names being read out - THIRTY TWO - I wanted to grab her hand and squeeze it and promise that things will change for her young daughter’s generation. Channel 4 really missed a trick with that Documentary. I understand what Danny was trying to do but he could have really delved into where the expectations of men came from. It’s like the programmes was scared to directly blame women but did it in a round about way and the silence on Patriarchy leaves a, women being the problem insinuation. He literally said there is a war against men! Could cause some problems really. It would be nice if the programme worked with people like @laura_bates__ or Jess Hill to help tie the issues nicely together and reveal the truth of what’s going on. Of course there are Men who make amazing fathers, and Abused men, Good men. A lot of Women actually like masculine men too. Being masculine isn’t the problem. What women don’t like is violent, controlling and entitled men.
What the C4 and Danny Dyer documentary actually exposed when they spoke about the harrowing family court case where a child was eventually murdered, was that the Courts DO NOT LISTEN TO CHILDREN when they disclose abuse! I see it all the time, children disclose abuse and the parent, oftentimes the Mother, is accused of parental alienation (A very common tactic of perps) Judges literally threaten Mothers with a change of residency for the child if they do not ‘shut up’ about the abuse that is disclosed by the child. I spoke to a lady just the other day who had this threat made to her before the hearing even got going.

Today I joined with thousands of people attending a violence against women rally with the clear message: Enough has been enough for far too long. This is a national emergency that our leaders refuse to address. Theres barely a word from our national leaders. Barely a word from anyone, aside from the usual handful of activists who do their best to ensure the rest of Australia knows about the atrocities happening with horrific frequency in our country. To let us know that we’re experiencing a horrifying national emergency that cannot be ignored. And yet it is. For years we've been screaming about men's violence against women. But it keeps getting worse and the current statistics tell us that one woman is now being murdered every four days in this country. Three just this week. How is this not a national emergency! Why are people so complacent. There are too many lives cut short and too many people who will never laugh, chat with or hug their loved ones again. It feels too much to bear. The senselessness of it. The horror. There is nowhere we are safe and it could be any of us- out walking, exercising, shopping… or just staying at home. It could be a stranger but is more likely to be someone known to us. Perhaps that’s what makes this so very shocking, so impossible to process. There is no reassurance. No solace. No distance. This is not America. This is not a war zone. This is Australia. The lucky country? This is not a women’s issue! It’s a human rights issue! And it’s a men’s violence issue! I had the pleasure of being able to attend today in Brisbane/Meanjin. 32 women have been killed since the start of 2024, and we are beyond fed up! Right now, in Australia, a woman is killed once every 4 days at the hands of a man. Domestic, Family & Sexual violence are at an all-time high, and not enough is being done about it. This crisis touches everyone—think about the mothers, sisters, girlfriends, female friends, and co-workers in your life.
