#Blues - Watercolours by #FernandoDagnino. Début décembre, à l'occasion de sa masterclass organisée par l'association @teachdrinkanddraw de Clermont-Ferrand, l'artiste dédicaçait au @brewpub_potinga son #artbook. Je n'ai malheureusement pas pu assister à la journée mais j'ai pu avoir cette belle ouvrage dédicacée avec le personnage principal de sa dernière publication chez @glenatbd : #WinterQueen. Un magnifique artbook découpé en 3 parties : des illustrations en camaïeu de bleus (d'où le titre), des illustrations en couleurs et en dernier des sketchs (dédicaces et commissions). Plus qu'à profiter et admirer le formidable résultat 😍

Tout droit sortie du XVIIème siècle, Liz se retrouve mystérieusement projetée à la Nouvelle Orléans en 2019 ! Princesse d’Ecosse et éphémère reine de Bohème, celle qui se nomme en réalité Elizabeth Stuart, est recherchée dans une sombre affaire de meurtres … Incarcérée par la police locale, son seul espoir de revoir la lumière est… Eddie, un pro des arnaques vaudous ! Mais ce petit escroc a, par le passé, déjà résolu une affaire similaire, et les policiers qui ont fait appel à lui sont dépassés : la première victime, mutilée, est un druide carbonisé dont il ne reste plus rien, et ce meurtre en rappelle d’autres… Liz et Eddie le comprennent rapidement : le meurtre dont Liz est accusée est l’œuvre d’une puissance maléfique. Une entité qui a déjà tué par le passé, et va continuer de le faire. Pour avoir une chance de l’arrêter, Liz et Eddy vont devoir unir leurs forces, et maîtriser des talents qu’ils ne pensaient pas détenir… Vous l’aurez compris Fernando Dagnino mêle donc dans cet album références historiques avec des éléments qui piochent dans le fantastique. Démons, sorcier vaudou ou fantômes sont au programme, dans une enquête menée par Liz (avec un twist) et Eddy par la force des choses. Malgré quelques défauts par ci par là sur l’ensemble de l’album Fernando Dagnino nous gratifie de planches parfois impressionnantes dans un style vraiment intéressant, le ressenti général de La Nouvelle Orléans (généralement de nuit et sous la pluie) fonctionne très bien. Winter Queen (Glénât) Bien que c'est souvent chez Glénat que je prendre de la BD (La Sagesse des mythes dont j'ai fait une pause dessus et Lord Gravestone qui m'intéressait et que j'ai lue la série dans son intégralité) pleins de BD de cette éditeur m'intéresse proposant des titres sympa. Parlons du titre, dans son principe et sa manière de faire j'ai bien aimé le titre. Je trouve que par la forme et le fond c'est un peu ce que on a vu avec Red Sonja : L'autre Monde édité chez Graph Zeppelin et est une version sombre du titre et se prenant au sérieux par rapport au titre que j'ai cité. J'ai passé un bon moment de lecture sur ce titre, bien que on soit noyé par tout ce qui se passe dans le titre et rend le titre difficile à suivre donnant trop d'infos et d'élément qui peut perdre facilement le lecteur. Bien que comme souvent, le titre subit quelques facilité scénaristiques surtout pour sa fin que je trouve bâclé et c'est dommage par l'opportunité du titre qui arrive à être intéressant pour ces personnages et son univers. Son comportement agressif et sa fuite dun lieu de crime lancent la police sur ses traces. Tandis que la jeune femme est appréhendée par les forces de l'ordre, la Brigade Criminelle réouvre à cause d'elle une vieille enquête d'un tueur en série dont la signature était l'ablation de la langue des victimes. Eddie est un escroc à la petite semaine qui embobine les touristes de la ville en leur donnant du vaudou factice. Son passé donne à la police l'occasion de le recontacter pour tenter de faire parler la mystérieuse jeune femme. Sans savoir que ça le mènera bien plus loin qu'une salle d'interrogatoire. Fernando #Dagnino explore la mystique vaudou et les légendes de Louisiane mais pas que : dans un syncrétisme occulte, il y mêle aussi une bonne dose de démonisme à l'européenne, le tout dans une ambiance typiquement américaine d'enquête policière sur un tueur en série. La puissance de cet album s'appuie clairement sur la qualité et le dynamisme de son dessin. Le format est franco-belge mais la pagination et le type d'illustration rappellent plus du #comics. Encore une fusion des genres qui apparaît aussi dans les graphismes. Un one-shot occulte de très bonne qualité qui prouve une fois de plus la valeur de cet artiste que l'on voit trop peu 😍

Our heroes have found Wonder Woman, who everyone has forgotten—but Batman remembers (as well as our friends in the JLI) thanks to the White Lanterns! Wondy is being hunted by OMACs, we think, sent by Maxwell Lord! Why? She killed him! (He got better). And Max killed Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) and wants to kill all superheroes because his mom died in the Parallax attack on Coast City! But nobody but our heroes remember Max either, thanks to some tech-y mind control gimmick he pulled in issue #1. He also has Professor Ivo with him, helping him with the OMACs. So, our heroes rush to save Wonder Woman—but it’s a trap! The OMACs can’t target WW because nobody remembers her and her data has been wiped from Max’s computers. But he knows our heroes will search for her. So—if the OMACs find the JLI—then they will have found WW. And—Batman figures out the trick—but too late. They are all under OMAC fire. And just when our heroes seem to be gaining some traction….Max unveils another trick….a huge robot OMAC Prime, who (we learn next ish) can kill WW. It can steal hero-powers like Amazo (Prof. Ivo made both). It has Blue Beetle scarab powers (from kidnapping and examining Beetle/Jaime Reyes a couple of issues ago). Maxwell Lord is back from the dead but nobody remembers him but his ex-JLI teammates, Fire, Ice, Booster Gold and Captain Atom. He killed Ted Kord/Blue Beetle and was killed by Wonder Woman. Nobody remembers her either. Last ish, our heroes (plus Rocket Red) tracked down Max in Tokyo on a big Checkmate ship. Max had kidnapped Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle for the tech in his scarab and other reasons. And—right before our heroes seemed like they were about to defeat Max, he shot Jaime, killing him…and then escaped. This ish, Booster Gold is feeling very guilty as “leader” of this team—and he wants to quit. Many have died already in their efforts to stop Max (2 cops, Magog, 1000 Chicagoans, Jaime, etc.). The team tries to rally him. Booster just wants to get Jaime out of his suit so he can bring him back to his parents! Captain Atom is becoming less and less human and feels like he’s let everybody down too. He’s gonna quit too. Ice rallies him. Rocket and Fire are also sad/depressed, but Rocket’s malapropisms make Fire laugh and stuff. So she smooches him. Romance? And then!?!? Jaime wakes up! And not only that! The Scarab reboots—and Jaime uses it to send out an SOS via Max’s computers while Max is chatting with Professor Ivo. Here comes the JLI! Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Rocket Red, Fire, Ice,…and Power Girl!? PG was pummeling our team last ish because she was being mind controlled by Max (and forgot who he was, like all the other superheroes in the DCU). But—she snapped out of it and is ready to fight for the good guys now! But they send her off to alert Batman and others! Is the tide turning? Seems so when Jaime manages to get his costume rebooted and escapes. He fights with Max and seems to gain the upper hand, just as our heroes burst through the walls of the giant electronic horsey that is Max’s HQ. They are about to nab him and save Jaime, when Max flips a switch that turns off, or immobilizes Jaime’s suit (Max has been studying it!) and then he gets out his fancy gun and shoots Jaime in the head! Magog attacks Captain Atom, Booster Gold, and Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes in Chicago! They’re in some OMAC lab, but end up out on the street. Magog is carrying some weird radiation/energy in his trident thing that easily disposes of Beetle and Booster…but Cap absorbs energy and doesn’t want Magog to blast the spectators. We see some origin storying of Magog (he was in the military). Cap was also in the military. Cap starts talking Magog out of his actions. He’s being mind-controlled by Maxwell Lord. And slowly Cap makes Magog realize it! But…then Max makes Magog turn his trident on himself and blow his own brains out! Yikes! Everyone watching believes that it was Cap who killed Magog! Evening collection selection! Justice League Generation Lost #9 (November 2010) by Judd Winick, Fernando Dagnino and Raul Fernandez. Cover by Cliff Chiang! Maxwell Lord shows up at the JLI Embassy in Germany…just as our heroes, the ex-JLI members do the same (Fire, Ice, Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Rocket Red—recovering from injuries). Fire walks in on Max in the command center and gets ready to blast him to smithereens. He’s back from the dead, after being killed by Wonder Woman for killing Ted Kord/Blue Beetle and trying to kill all supers with OMACs! But—he stole some force-field tech from Booster and she can’t touch him. Then he mind-controls her into attacking her chums! (All this after his presence there is detected by Skeets, Booster’s future flying robot friend). Fire torches Skeets and tries to do the same to Rocket Red. But he fights back…and then Captain Atom takes on Fire and drains her power safely. No one dies! Meanwhile Booster confronts Max and they battle. Max gets wounded, by Ice (?) and is losing it a little. But he escapes through a JLI teleport tube. Then…by the power vested in him by Checkmate, he convinces Magog (whoever that is) to kill Captain Atom! To be continued! The reformed JLI (Captain Atom, Fire, Ice, Booster Gold, Rocket Red Gavril and Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle) are headed to Checkmate HQ to confront Maxwell Lord—the evil ex-head of JLI who has now been forgotten by everybody on Earth except our heroes. (Max killed Ted Kord/Blue Beetle and was in turn killed by Wonder Woman…but nobody remembers this, or his OMAC-fuelled pursuit of death to all superheroes). But! this issue is a long flashback to the first couple of issues in the series, where Captain Atom found a huge bomb in a cave planted by Max…He flew it into space and absorbed the energy—which threw him into a (possible) future wherein whatever Max is doing in the present caused the death of all (or almost all) supers! Cap first meets some old-fashioned farmers making him think he’s in the past—but is soon directed to talk to Karrie…who turns out to be a skeletal depowered Power Girl, tainted by exposure to Kryptonite! She warns him that Max was the cause of all this dystopian horror. Maxwell Lord is back from the dead! But the only people who remember him at all are Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, and Captain Atom (key members of everybody’s favorite Bwa-ha-ha Justice League International as led by Lord, back when he was a good guy). Why? He somehow hyper-powered his mind-control powers using tech inside the old NY JLI Embassy. Because they were inside, they weren’t in the blast radius. Now Max is discrediting them in various ways, and succeeding. Fire has been fired from secret org Checkmate and she goes there to say “wtf!” She fights her old teammates and it is revealed that she was fired due to psychological problems…but wha? a) she thinks this dude named Maxwell Lord exists, b) her mom was bipolar and it manifested around Fire’s age! She spots Lord right there—and chases and blasts him and sets him on fire (but not really—he does it to himself). But it’s not really him! It’s just a plot to make her look bad! Meanwhile Captain Atom, Ice and Booster Gold detected a signal that seemed to be monitoring them. Old dead (killed by Max) Blue Beetle/Ted Kord’s signal! But when they trace it, they end up at new living Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle’s house! WTF! They are attacked by teleporting in OMACs! These were the robot baddies Lord used to try to kill all superhumans in some event or other! (Infinite Crisis?) Our heroes fight off the OMACs, thanks to Jaime’s scarab and suit—and his scarab also remembers Max, even though he doesn’t! They chase the OMACs through a teleportal…and end up in…Russia? Where they are attacked by some Rocket Reds! One used to be in the JLI…but not these!
