It’s been 9 weeks since THE RIP came out and almost 9 months since THE SHALLOWS and it’s only taken since last week to finally come down, burrow down, knuckle down and write ✍️ (What I’m meant to be doing) I feel like I’m deep in the rhythm now of book 4, at 28,000 words with most of it plotted out. But with these first 28k words, there’s been no expectations, no plotting happening. It's been ages since I read Wool, so Shift by Hugh Howey might have suffered a bit from me having forgotten plenty of bits and pieces. I loved Wool, but only enjoyed Shift. I don't need a lot of action or suspense to book me, I love books like Becky Chambers or Andy Weir. So this being more a flashback and "how did we get here?" and the people than any actual plot progression was not my problem. However I just didn't really click with the characters as much as I should have, and that made Shift feel a bit long at times. I still live the world and idea (though not everything made sense for me), and I read it in just two days. Potem jednak przypomniałam sobie uniwersalną prawdę, że bohaterowie żyją własnym życiem i nawet autor nie ma czasem nad nimi kontroli. „Dreadful. Niebo pełne gwiazd” w pewien sposób zaskakuje. Pojawia się wiele wątków, niektóre rozwiewają się szybciej, inne poznajemy dopiero przy zakończeniu. Ohanka wskazała bohaterom kierunki, a oni podążyli za jej wskazówkami. Historia była bardzo dobra, ale zakończenie nie było moje totalnie. Mimo to mam w sobie dużo szacunku i gratuluję wydania tej serii. Ich liebe Bücher, in denen es um Arten von Magie geht, über die ich noch keine Bücher gelesen habe und das hier ist definitiv eines davon! Das Buch ist bis zum Ende spannend und hat immer wieder Plottwists, die ich auf keinen F all habe kommen sehen. 🫣 Die fesselnde Art, mit der Anne Lück ihre Geschichten schreibt und die Idee dieser magischen Welt, machen dieses Buch für mich zu einem echten Jahreshighlight! Ich freue mich schon extrem auf Band 2 😍 Absolut verdiente 5/5 ⭐️

Yasmin musste echt einiges erleiden und wenn ich in das Buch springen könnte ... das lasse ich am besten unausgesprochen 👀🫣 Esteban - eine düstere und gefährliche Aura, extrem grenzwertig und so kaputt. Trotz allem hat mich das nicht abgeschreckt und ich konnte Yasmins Anziehung zu ihm verstehen. Wobei Damian auch nicht schlecht weg kam 🤭👀 Ihn kann man als Gegenteil zu Esteban sehen, einfach sanft und einfühlsam - da bin ich mir jedoch sehr sicher, dass er auch anders kann !! Noch wissen wir nicht viel von ihm, da bin ich umso gespannter auf die weiteren Bände 😏😍 Sally's Schreibstil ist so leicht und schnell zu lesen, dass ich die Seiten des Buches in 2 Tagen verschlungen habe, wobei ich mir die letzten beiden Kapitel aufgehoben habe ... Wenn man einmal in den Bann gezogen wurde, dann lässt man das Buch nicht mehr los. In faux leather I bought this book in a second hand book store. I haven’t finished this story yet as I am finding it quite hard going. It’s quite depressing and I am not sure if it’s my state of mind or whether Dickens isn’t for me. I know the story, so all I can say is thank goodness for Mr Brownlow. The moral so far for me is stick by the people that love you and want the best for you. I loved this possessiveness about Damon, he really is the „I burn the whole world to the ground for her“ man. A perfect match for Misty and she is perfect for him. I loved how she is a mix of sunshine and darkness and their chemistry is really out of this world. J. Wilders writing is really excellent and I can’t wait to continue this series 😍. Sono indubbiamente di parte, ma, ogni volta che leggo qualcosa di suo, penso che si trattasse di una mente veramente interessante da cui ho un sacco da imparare. Sono realmente stupita di come parlasse dell’inaffidabilità delle immagini in un contesto in cui, ancora, tutto sommato, c’era in esse un certo grado di veridicità. Sono stupita di come inquadrasse lucidamente il giornalismo. Sono stupita di come trattasse tutto questo semplicemente esponendo la sua prospettiva che era sempre posta come tale. È un testo piccolo e non particolarmente approfondito, ma non per questo meno interessante. La frase che cito mi piace particolarmente perché è come vorrei che le persone esponessero i propri giudizi: come tali. Non c’è niente di sbagliato o assurdo nell’avere un’opinione, ma c’è, a mio avviso, qualcosa di profondamente malsano nel volerla confondere con il fatto. Il fatto è una cosa, il giudizio è un’altra. E non lo dico per delegittimare l’opinione, anzi, penso che di ogni opinione si possa discutere (a meno che non si pretenda che qualsiasi giudizio sia definitivo e immutabile), ma ritengo che inquadrarla come tale permetta al dibattito di farsi spazio dove altrimenti non lo avrebbe. Non lo so, magari è solo un’impressione personale, ma spesso mi pare si confondano le opinioni con la realtà fattuale e trovo che questo atteggiamento abbia una certa pericolosità nascosta che finiremo con il pagare cara. ✨Book Review✨ Archer by Dr. Rebecca Sharp I had actually planned my whole weekend to read the entire four books in the Reynolds protective group series, however I struggled to get into the books as much as I had hoped. Was it the books themselves? No. I don’t believe so. It was well written, interesting characters and backstories. The storyline itself was good and unexpected in ways. Una scelta d’affetto semplice, che culmina in 𝖙𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖆 ☠️ Il riverbero che accompagna i lettori anche dopo la fine del libro assume però i contorni frastagliati della 𝙿𝚘𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚊. Pura 𝘍𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘻𝘢 🧠, tanto aberrante quanto affascinante 🤯. Una forma particolarissima d’𝕚𝕡𝕟𝕠𝕤𝕚: così il Giappone disegna i tratti di un 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗼 silente e strisciante nella società di tutti i giorni. Adelantándome a Mayo de Ciencia Ficción... Como mi vida ha cambiado tanto en los últimos tiempos, a pesar de haberme leído el libro hace unos meses, tenía pendiente comentarlo por aquí. "El sueño de Mía" de @m.j.bausa @martacostajussa publicado por @eddestino La obra podría ser perfectamente un Light Academia, ya que cumple todos los requisitos para ello. Al mismo tiempo se ubica entre la realidad y la ciencia ficción, ya que por una parte un grupo de estudiantes realizan un curso de verano en un centro de alto rendimiento de Inteligencia Artificial (la cual está cada día más presente en nuestras vidas) y de programación, sin embargo, por otra parte, algunos de ellos se encuentran con un universo paralelo, en el que interactúan con diversos seres, como si de otro planeta se tratase. Las consecuencias de la Inteligencia Artificial pueden llegar a sorprender, ya que hacen cosas sin tener mucha idea de a qué se están enfrentando. Se quiere hacer del mundo un lugar mejor, no obstante no todos la utilizan con buenas intenciones en el centro. A lo largo del libro aparecen diferentes conceptos relacionados con la IA, como reconocimiento biométrico, metaverso, holograma, robots quirúrgicos, prótesis inteligente, sesgo, algoritmos, Phyton, Cluster... Anche Adelphi, che si è caratterizzata per la scoperta di nuovi autori, italiani e stranieri, tende a ripiegarsi su scelte di alta qualità, ma commercialmente più sicure, cioè adattabili a un pubblico meno elitario. George Simenon e Raymond Chandler sono due esempi fra i più recenti. Anche il prossimo ingresso nel catalogo Adelphi dei titoli di Philip Roth è un bel colpo, anche se l’autore del Lamento di Portnoy e di Pastorale americana è a un livello un po’ più impegnativo sul piano letterario. Viene spontanea una domanda: chi ha già letto Philip Roth in edizione Einaudi perché dovrebbe riacquistarlo in edizione e Adelphi? Stessa domanda potrebbe valere per Carlo Emilio Gadda, di cui già avevamo le belle edizioni di Garzanti. Adelphi ne ripropone dal 2010 tutta l’opera. Ma anche qui: non si tratta di mere ristampe. Sono nuove edizioni, anche critiche, cioè filologicamente aggiornate, come nel caso di Eros e Priapo e Quer pasticciaccio brutto de via Merulana. I libri Adelphi sono sempre molto curati e originali, e quindi non manca in genere una motivazione per “ricomprarli” (nuova traduzione, riproposta di un testo inedito dello stesso romanzo, nuova edizione critica, ecc.). The story in the book ‘Day’ by Michael Cunningham unfolds across three days: a morning in 2019, a locked-down afternoon in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, and an evening in 2021—each marked by the same date, April 5. In a Brooklyn apartment, we encounter a cast of characters: the mother Isabel, yearning for escape even before the virus confines her and Dan her husband, who’s an aging musician, who are slowly but surely drifting apart. They have two children and then there’s Isabel’s gay brother who lives in the flat at the top of their house, but who’s getting ready to move out. The book touches on many different subjects like sibling relationships, marital bonds, and parental love. The author shows us the complexities of family ties, the joys , the tensions, and the quiet sacrifices. I found this a really good and easy read. Funny at times, but quite emotional in other parts.
