Richard Fenton and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary in Spain. 🥂 We've technically had our business together for 26 years! 🦖 How have we managed to be married and work side by side all this time? Here are the top 5 🖐️ things we've learned. 1. Team Decision. When faced with a hard choice we always verbally agree "team decision" which means, no blame if this thing doesn't work out. It's been huge because blame and finger-pointing leads to resentments and that can drive a wedge between a couple that's hard to remove. 2. Vision. It helps that you have the same vision. Our #1 goal is to spend time together on the planet. We love working together so that's how we've chosen to run our business. That's why we even speak on stage together. That said, we also have our own projects and we always give each other room to try stuff. 3. Control. Richard had more experience than me when we launched our little business so he was involved in everything. Eventually, he learned that different isn't necessarily better. Give up having to change it all to "your way." Now that I have taken more of a leadership role, I've also learned this. 😏 We have spirited debates about many things but we've both learned to give in faster because most of the time we're both half right. 4. Responsibility. We've been lucky that for the most part, we like to do different things and so we divided responsibilities. Richard is the super creative, vision person, and strategist of us and I'm the detail-oriented, figure out if it's possible (sayer of "no" 😜) implementer. 5. Love + Respect. We genuinely love hanging out with each other. We are "foodies" so we chose to go to a 3-Michelin star dining experience called, DiverXO in Madrid. (Hence the very cool table in the photo.) It was on a level we've never seen. Almost 4 hours. 16 courses. 3 dessert courses. 🥳 The passion and excellence we saw was inspiring. And filling. Even when we disagree or fight (like if we're both sick, or tired and hungry there's likely trouble 🤬) we never forget that our intention is always to do good and help the other person. 25 years. Time sure has flown by. ⏳ Enjoy every moment. #GoforNo

ich glaube, dass der Grund dafür, dass viele „potenziell“ sehr erfolgreiche Unternehmer, Berater und Vertriebsleute viel zu früh aufgeben, NICHT die Tatsache ist, dass man ihnen Nein sagt und sie ständig zurückgewiesen werden. Ich vermute, es ist wohl eher der Gedanke, dass sie die EINZIGEN sind, denen man „Nein“ sagt und die ständig abgelehnt werden. Sie vergleichen sich mit all diesen erfolgreichen Menschen und denken: „Die hatten es leicht, die mussten bestimmt das alles, was ich hier grade erlebe, niemals durchmachen.“ Fakt ist jedoch: Das ist nicht wahr. Das ist nicht so. Ganz und gar nicht. Der springende Punkt ist nämlich: Sie sind erfolgreich, gerade WEIL sie das alles schon DURCHGEMACHT haben! Und JETZT ernten und geniessen sie die Früchte * all dieser Ablehnungen * all dieser Frustrationen * all dieser „Neinsager“. Sie ernten sie, eben weil sie EINMAL MEHR weitergemacht haben. Bis endlich das“ JA“ kam. Zu ihrem Angebot, zu dem, was sie vertreten und wofür sie gehen. Die „Neins“ on the way pflastern sozusagen ihren Erfolgsweg. Vielleicht ist es das wichtigste Learning, was wir als Leader, wir als Führungskräfte, unseren Partnern und Mitarbeitern mitgeben können, sie gleich zu Beginn - darauf vorzubereiten - sie zu „impfen“ (im positivsten aller Sinne), wenn Du so willst. Stell also sicher, dass alle (auch Du) bereits im VORAUS wissen, dass „Nein“ und Ablehnung einfach zum Spiel dazugehören. Und dass wir damit rechnen müssen - früh, oft und ständig wieder. Ganz wichtig deshalb: Zu lernen, ein „Ja“ zu erwarten UND mit einem „Nein“ völlig einverstanden zu sein. Weil es einfach dazugehört. Weil es völlig normal ist. “It is going to happen because I am going to make it happen.” I was talking on the phone to my high school best friend the other night and she said you look like you are doing really well but I know you enough to know there is more to the story. Si alguien nos dice que “No”, eso no significa “Nunca”. Cuando alguien nos dice que no (en cualquier área de nuestra vida, personal o profesional), no significa que es el final, significa realmente “No en este momento”, no significa que debemos de tirar la toalla ni dejar de intentarlo. Este fin de semana terminé de leer el libro “Go for no” (Ve por el no), de los autores Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz, que en tan solo 74 páginas nos cuenta la historia de Eric James Bratton, su personaje principal, y la manera en que su vida cambia ante un incidente, brindándonos con esto un gran y poderoso mensaje que, personalmente, me atrapó.
En el libro, se menciona una estadística que me llamó fuertemente la atención: 92% de las personas se rinden al obtener un “no” como respuesta y dejan de intentarlo. Si bien esta estadística la mencionan en el mundo de las ventas, me quedé pensando que se pudiera llevar al mundo personal / profesional perfectamente, y los resultados tal vez no variarían demasiado.
No me malinterpreten, no buscamos fallar… buscamos lograr nuestras metas, sean cuales sean, pero como dicen los autores: Nadie logra sus objetivos sin fallar, solo no hay que ver la falla como algo fatalista y detenernos ahí, todos buscamos ese “Sí”, y concluyen “
