This has been my happy place for the last 5 months... I've been with her for every moment of every day since the day she came out of my body.. I had a dream I was going to jail, which is symbolic of leaving my baby. I'm going to be gone for 4 days a week.. I'm very excited to feel like I'm contributing to my house financially, and I can't wait to feel needed by my patients, but the mom guilt of having to go back to work is real... no more dancing fruit dance parties, late morning contact naps, no more mommy and me days... Back to work tomorrow after 1 year off. Massive mix of emotions. I am both utterly not ready AND ready to be back at work. I want to be at home with my baby for a bit longer, she still seems so little. I don’t feel like my brain is ready for anything other than keeping track of naps, wake windows and baby led weaning. I’m not ready to push ‘wind the bobbin up’ and ‘old MacDonald’ to one side to make room for info on new software and procedures. But then there’s a part of me that wants gossip at the kettle and a hot cup of tea! I want to have something I can work on and see the physical proof of a pile of papers going down that shows I’ve been busy! My brain is ready for adult conversations, making decisions bigger than ‘shall we feed the ducks or go to soft play’. I really don’t want to go back. But I do. I suppose I’ve got the best of both worlds really, as I’m going back part time. I’m only working Wed-Fri (though they are LONG days!) so it means I still have Mondays and Tuesdays with H. Sigh. So this is it - Maternity leave, you’ve been amazing. I feel incredibly lucky to have had so long off. Now onto the next chapter.
