I have no idea what’s going on about some really important stuff. It feels like misinformation and disinformation have really ramped up, especially since the war in Ukraine. It’s probably been going on since the start of the internet, but over the last few years I find it hard to get accurate and unbiased information about important issues. And even if I do, I don’t even know what is trustworthy anymore. I’m sharing this because last night I fell down a Pierre Poilievre rabbithole. He leads the Conservatives in Canada. I didn’t even mean to, but what happened was I saw a video about something that he supposedly did. So then I wanted to learn what happened. I googled and tried to find decent sources. But my brain became full of insane information that it didn’t need, that’s probably not even true. There was info about Trudeau, funny things Poilievre has said to Trudeau, tweets attributed to Poilievre, all sorts of news articles about random Canadian stuff. I still have no idea what happened, but my brain hurt so I just went to sleep. I did find one article about this issue that I am having, that talked about the feedback loop that exists between cops, politicians and media (traditional and social) that drives what is happening in society. It was specific to a case that happened, but I think I can summarize it to say “Everyone is running around saying insane shit, people are believing it and then important things are happening based on bad info.” I’m finding it really hard and confusing.
