New additions to the hiking staff! - New tip from @rockler_woodworking and it needed good test so I did the Mt. Diablo 6 peak loop yesterday. Held up great on all terrain and felt very stable. I recommend using a wire brush to clean off the threading after a hike so the rubber foot screws back on smoothly. - Had to pick up the Mt. Diablo hiking stick medallion while at the summit and attached it after the hike ended. Multiple people on the hike asked me where I got my hiking staff and when I said I made it myself, a couple people asked for my info to purchase one! Iโm currently progressing a few projects, one of which is this king eider. With the basic shapes more or less resolved and feather texture worked in, eyes and colour are next. A friend once asked which bit I like best, the carving or the painting? Thinking now, I feel much the same as then. I love all the carving, slowly bringing something out of a hard block of timber, refining it carefully. Then at some point I know itโs ready to be transformed. I love whatโs next, the finishing stages. Adding the eyes, and colour to define the plumage, is my reward for all the hours of physical work that went before. It feels like a small piece of magic. Iโm ready for that nowโฆ.
