My love for travel didn’t develop in a vacuum. Growing up, I had the privilege of traveling frequently with my family. My parents are curious and adventurous, and they never took a vacation without me and my sister. These family trips to far-off places planted a seed. And my penchant for exploration grew, eventually leading me to a year and a half of mostly solo travel. But one of the really special things about my big trip was spending parts of it with loved ones. I met up with my family in Iceland for two weeks of wild landscapes, geothermal pools, stunning waterfalls, and 11 pm sunsets. We saw puffins, minke whales, an arctic fox, and seals. We spent five days sleeping five to a sprinter van, exploring fjords and volcanic formations and tiny towns. Dreams do come true ♡ Road tripping in Iceland with @lukejs4 has been one of the best experiences of my life. Constantly feeling like we were in a movie with ever changing weather and scenery. 10/10 highly recommended! These pictures where taken approx 3 minutes before the sky opened up and rained nonstop for 24 hours at a car pullout somewhere along the eastern coast. Renting a campervan was definitely the way to go. With so many great and cheap campsites all around the island. Day 6 🇮🇸 - Ice Climbing!🧊⛏️ We headed out to one of the outlet glaciers of the Vatnaköjull Glacier for some ice climbing - something none of us had ever tried before! 😮 We’ve rappelled, rock climbed, zip lined, glacier trekked and canyoneered but had never ice climbed so figured Iceland would be the best place to do it! After putting on all our safety gear - helmet, harness, ice climbing boots and crampons, we headed out onto the glacier where our guide fixed the rope for us so we could start climbing.👍🏼 Caleb went first, then Brec, Keith and me last - it was so awesome! 🤗 It also looks easier watching someone else do it than it is once you’re actually doing it.😬🤣 My calves and hands got tired so quickly. But we all made it back up the ice face successfully! It was a great day made even better by our awesome guide, Agust (a native Icelander) who taught us a lot about the glacier, ice climbing, and Iceland, calmed our nerves and kept us entertained with his guiding stories while also making sure we were safe at all times. Iceland 🇮🇸🙌 I celebrated my 30th birthday with visiting the Blue Lagoon spa, walked around Reykjavik, saw a lava show with real lava and finished with a wonderful dinner at @sjavargrillid 🎈 Then we rented a camper van and drove along the south coast and also the “golden circle” of Iceland. A couple of highlights was the Skogafoss waterfall, the Hrunalaug hot springs, the geysers and the “Diamond Beach” where water and ice from the glacier Vatnajökull runs into the Atlantic Ocean where we saw big blocks of ice flushed up on the black sand of the beach and seals where playing in the currents. Im deeply impressed by the nature ! Dreams do come true if you work hard enough. I used to dream to see Iceland while growing up in Vizag. I was never in to soap operas or movies much and most of my time I love watching TLC or discovery channel and all those exotic locations series used to be so fascinating but seemed impossible to go. Just like any middle class girl problems 😍 So now you know why my solo Iceland trip is so special and emotional to me as every moment I was there, I was reliving my childhood TV memories. We have done it on many occasions since 2015 and would definitely recommend it ! It's flexible, economic , time savvy, adventurous and it's a ton of fun ! There are many rental companies around the Airport & Reykjavik; we have tried 3 differents companies so far and would recommend them all. 🚩 Wild camping isn't authorized anymore however you can find plenty of campsites all around Iceland. 🚩 Be safe : Mind both the weather and the road condition (https://www.vedur.is/ & https://www.road.is/) ! 🚩 Be respectful : Always leave the campground cleaner than you found it. 👉 Bonus tips: - Ensure there is an independent heating system in your camper! When you are the among the first INDIAN WOMEN to do a SOLO camping trip in ICELAND! This is by far my most memorable travel adventures and I can’t believe I am actually doing this. The entire journey right from the planning stage to reaching here and experiencing it makes me really proud of myself. Growing up in a small town like Visakhapatnam from a humble family, I never ever thought one day I will drive a camper van in one of world’s most beautiful countries and that too solo.
