City Hall Of Ghent /Hôtel de Ville de Gand 8/10 The City Hall of Ghent, is a four-sided complex surrounded by the Botermarkt, the Hoogpoort, the Stadhuissteeg and the Poeljemarkt. The main wings are the late-Gothic alderman's house of De Keure and the alderman's house of Gedele in the Renaissance style. The building has 51 halls.The aldermen's house of De Keure (corner Botermarkt-Hoogpoort) was built in late Gothic flamboyant style between 1519 and 1539 to a design by Rombout II Keldermans and Dominicus de Waeghemaekere. The facade niches were intended to contain the statues of the Counts of Flanders. / L'Hôtel de Ville de Gand est un complexe à quatre côtés entouré du Botermarkt, du Hoogpoort, du Stadhuissteeg et du Poeljemarkt. Gravensteen / Château des comtes de Flandres 7/10 The Gravensteen is a medieval castle in the city of Ghent, East Flanders in Belgium. The current castle dates from 1180 and was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. It was subsequently re-purposed as a court, prison, mint, and even as a cotton factory. It was restored over 1893–1903 and is now a museum and a major landmark in the city. The origins of the Gravensteen date to the reign of Arnulf I (890–965). The site, which sat between two branches of the river Lys, was first fortified around 1000, initially in wood and later in stone. This was soon transformed into a motte-and-bailey castle which burnt down in around 1176. / Le Château des comtes de Flandres est un château médiéval situé dans la ville de Gand, en Flandre orientale en Belgique. Ghent Post Office / Hôtel des poste de Gand 6/10 The Ghent Post Office is a public building formerly belonging to the Belgian post office. Today it is a tourist hotel. It is classified as Belgian cultural heritage. The building was commissioned in 1896 by Jules Vandenpeereboom, then minister of posts and telecommunications. The architects Louis Cloquet and Stéphane Mortier were responsible for drawing up the plans, finalized in 1898. Construction was undertaken between 1900 and 1908 and the building was inaugurated in 1910. In 1999, the building was protected and registered as a Belgian cultural heritage. / L'hôtel des Postes de Gand est un édifice public appartenant autrefois à la la poste belge. C'est aujourd'hui un hôtel de tourisme. Il est classé au patrimoine culturel belge. Le bâtiment est commandé en 1896 par Jules Vandenpeereboom alors ministre des postes et télécommunications. View of St Nicholas Church (Ghent)/ Vue de l’église Saint Nicolas (Gand) 4/10 The Saint-Nicolas church is one of the oldest and most imposing buildings in the city of Ghent in Belgium. The attested existence of the first church on this site dates from the 12th century. This building quickly became too small and gave way to a larger building: the current Saint-Nicolas church. Construction began at the beginning of the 13th century. The church was completed in the 15th century but repair work became necessary in the 16th century and also in the 17th century. The bell tower, which was partly built by the city of Ghent, served as an observation post and housed the city's bells before the construction of the Belfry of Ghent. One of the centerpieces of the church is its organ which was made by the famous French organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. / L'église Saint-Nicolas est un des plus anciens et des plus imposants édifices de la ville de Gand en Belgique. The Van Eyck Brothers Monument 1/10 The Van Eyck Brothers Monument is a monument erected in 1913 in honor of the Flemish painters Hubert and Jan van Eyck in the Belgian city of Ghent. As the Universal Exhibition of 1913 approached, the architect Valentin Vaerwyck and the sculptor Geo Verbanck were commissioned in early July 1912 to create a monument in memory of the 15th century painters Hubert van Eyck and Jan van Eyck. Vaerwyck was responsible for the architectural execution and Verbanck for the sculpture. In their new approved project, the two brothers are the central characters. The ensemble was placed on the Geraard De Duivelhof, a triangular square in the immediate vicinity of Saint Bavo's Cathedral.
