Ray LaMontagne’s ”Supernova” marked his fifth studio album, released on April 29, 2014, and curated by none other than Dan Auerbach, who also stepped into the spotlight on this album. With a sound that melds into a soft, psychedelic symphony, the album throws me back to the latter half of the 60s, especially with the opening track ”Lavender” followed by the electrifying ”Airwaves.” LaMontagne’s unique singing style creates an atmosphere of harmonies that captivate my attention, particularly on tracks like ”Pick Up a Gun,” ”No Other Way,” ”Ojai,” and ”Smashing.” Dan Auerbach’s (Black Keys) presence on the album had definitely injected a new dimension of power and energy, giving it a sense of musical renewal and completeness. ”Supernova” dominated the charts, landing impressively at the second spot on the US Billboard 200, with a top position on the US Top Rock Albums (Billboard), and finally on the US Folk Albums (Billboard). El 29 de abril de 2008 los Testament publicaban su noveno álbum de estudio tras nueve años de vacío discográfico, así como el primero con Skolnick desde "The Ritual" (1992) y el primero con Christian desde "Low" (1994). Justo después de su anterior lanzamiento "The Gathering" de 1999 todo fueron desgracias para los de San Francisco, el guitarrista James Murphy fue diagnosticado con un tumor cerebral del cual pudo recuperarse por completo. En 2001, a Chuck Billy también le diagnosticaron un cáncer del cual pudo salir tras tratamiento un par de años después. Tras esto diferentes cambios de formación, giras, conciertos y el anuncio de lo que sería este álbum, un álbum con las expectativas muy altas tras sus últimos (aunque lejanos) trabajos, y al final, el disco no defrauda, no es de lo mejor de ellos, pero mantienen el tipo y las pelotas, que decir eso de un disco Thrash del nuevo milenio es mucho!. Personal Collection Sundays!!! Occasionally on Sunday we thought it’d be fun to share something from our personal and not for sale collection. Something extra special to share with the vinyl loving community! This week it’s a 2017 US first (and only) double LP pressing of the 1998 debut (and only) studio album from New Radicals. The “band” mainly consisted of lead singer and frontman Gregg Alexander along with a number of session musicians. It’s technically Alexander’s third studio effort, following two unsuccessful solo efforts and was by far his most popular. The lead single “You Get What You Give” charted worldwide, and the rest of the album’s musical style has been compared to numerous artists, including Billy Corgan, Chumbawamba (perhaps a poor comparison) and the Rolling Stones. It’s not for everyone, but no record is. It’s out of print, and most likely (never say never) won’t be pressed again. Both black and translucent gold variants exist, both released in 2017. We have the standard black vinyl version. Gatefold jacket, custom colour labels. I’ll tell you what..I actually really enjoyed the movie Birds of Prey. I think it didn’t get its due because it came out right as Covid hit..and then was forgotten about. But it was actually a really good movie. So much better than that horrible Suicide Squad they put out a couple years earlier..and almost as good as the good Suicide Squad movie they put out years later. But regardless of what you think of the movie..no one can deny that the soundtrack is awesome. Honestly probably one of the best ones put out that year. It’s just amazing track after amazing track. And it covers allll my favorite genres..hip hop, alternative rock, rap, and pop. Well..pop’s not one of my favorites but I can tolerate it..especially when surrounded by all those other bangers. And they got some of the top current artists performing a lot of these tracks..like Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Halsey, and K Flay. So yeah..incredible soundtrack to a very underrated movie. So many people recommended I check out Against Me’s Reinventing Axl Rose. Some were describing it as one of the best punk albums of the early 2000’s. I was already a fan of Against Me..I really dug their Transgender Dysphoria Blues album..so I was all for giving it a shot. It took a while to track down..I don’t think it’s necessarily a hard album to find..it just pops up randomly from time to time. I don’t know if it’s under constant repressing or what..but I was finally able to grab a copy eventually. And yeah..it’s really good. Best of the era? That’s debatable. But it’s definitely the best thing I’ve heard from the band so far. Reinventing.. was the bands debut album..and it was kind of a best of compilation of a bunch of EPs they had already released. So in a way it is a best of record of all of their earliest recordings..which is probably why their aren’t any weak songs..they’re all pretty solid. There is a freshness to their sound on this record too. The energy is so high..it almost feels like a live album at certain points..and I mean that as a compliment. They were able to capture the feeling of their live performances..which is amazing for this type of band. So yeah..I liked it a lot. Maybe even bordered on loved it. It might’ve been built up too much in my head..that there was no way it wasn’t going to not be a let down.
