I hadn't done a book cover for a few decades. But when I was asked by Stefan if I would do the cover for a book about his incredible life in the movie business, I could not say no. ,50 year career in Stunts, stunt coordinating and hanging out with the stars, the book has it all. I was lucky to get to know Stefan when I worked on the Bond films. I also got to spend time with him on another job out in the incredible alpine village of Wengen. He is such an amazing lovely character and so full of fun. The cover was a real challenge as he wanted it in the style of the old bond films, but I had fun doing it. 777 posts! 🤩 It’s been a hot minute since January 2020 when I decided to start this little online journey sharing my art and creating a platform to celebrate my Bond fandom. ❤️💎🎬🍿🎨 I thought I’d make my 777th post a simple one. It’s not actually a significant number really, nor are any for that matter. But the relationship with Bond and the number 7 runs deep and it feels like a nice excuse to express my thanks and ongoing gratitude to the friends I’ve made here in the community. I didn’t know that I’d apparently have 777 things worth sharing here all that time ago, but here we are and still going strong, hundreds of paintings later. It is, to some at least, a turbulent time for the Bond franchise, or more so the fandom. There’s a lot of different opinions about the state of play and what the future looks like for 007, but I am grateful that you’re all here and flying the flag in your corner, wherever corner that may be. And, if you’ve ever shown any kind of appreciation for my art, Bond memorabilia collection, or just generally been a friend and an ally over the last 4 years, I appreciate it very much and please know you have contributed to my motivation to keep up this page. Casino Royale by Ian Fleming (book review) Reading James Bond's first book after watching 27 films with 7 different actors is an unusual experience. While the book is clearly dated, there are plenty of redeeming qualities. The book pays close attention to some gambling scenes, which depending on your personal tastes, are descriptively in-depth but not overly enthralling. The action scenes are definitely more interesting, with the chase and the torture scenes being the book at its best. It has to be said the book is dated with Bond having a low view of women, although he does seem to have affection for Vesper. The strangest comment, that truly dates the book, is Bond's love for Citroën cars over a Bentley. I'm keen to rewatch the Casino Royale film as I think it outdoes the book at times but the book had enough highlights to make it an enjoyable read. 💿🎶 Skyfall - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack! An absolutely beautiful limited edition 2017 pressing of Thomas Newman’s score for Skyfall. This epic double vinyl release opens up to reveal a gatefold pop-out imagine of Daniel Craig as 007 as seen in the promotional material for the film. My copy is numbered 334 of 500 on blue and white splattered vinyl. 🤩♥️ I absolutely love this soundtrack and it is second only to Casino Royale in my list of favourite Craig era scores. Almost Bond books!? 🤔🤩 If you went down the rabbit hole of books that are ALMOST Bond books, but not REALLY Bond books, I guess it would almost be unending… Whether it’s an autobiography, a book relating to a Bond-adjacent franchise, or a book (or magazine!) that features on screen in a 007 adventure, they’re all fun to read, or even just have a flick through to see what Bond himself would have seen! 😎👍 A few in my collection are “Boutell’s Heraldry” by JP Brooke-Little, the heraldry book that Bond uses while disguised as genealogist Sir Hilary Bray in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. My edition is the 1973 version, so not quite screen accurate, as Bond uses the 1966 version on screen which has a blue crest on the front. Nonetheless, a cool book to have! 😃 Also from OHMSS, the February 1969 issue of Playboy magazine that Bond is seen looking at during the safe cracking scene in Bern, Switzerland. Centrefold included! 🤯😎 And a couple of other favourites, “The Roger Moore Adventure Book” from 1966 during Roger’s time as The Saint. A really fun little book about adventure and action skills and how to master them with lots of Sir Roger goodness. An interesting insight into Moore before Bond - and - Sir Sean Connery’s “Being A Scot”, a book just as much about Scotland as it is about Sir Sean himself. Making movies! 🎥🎬🍿💥 A selection of Bond books that go into detail and / or show off beautiful behind the scenes photography from the making of specific James Bond films! 🤩 There are some absolutely sensational books out there that dig deep into the making of the 007 adventures. 2 of my personal favourites are Charles Helfenstein’s “The Making of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” and “The Making of The Living Daylights”. Not only are they 2 of my favourite Bond films, these books serve up a mouth watering amount of information and photography, presented in an exciting and well edited manner. They feel a little bit like school textbooks, only I actually want to study these ones!
