Palestinian Liberation is a food justice issue. Gaza's population of 2.2 million is facing alarming levels of acute food insecurity as a result of israel's genocidal assault on their land. This means that not a single person in Gaza has access to the food they need to survive. Famine is believed to be imminent, particularly in North Gaza. North Gaza is so cut off from access to food that people have begun to starve to death, most of them children. The severe lack of food has also caused some people to survive off animal feed, or wild plants, neither of which provide adequate nutrition. Lack of nutrients also leads to numerous preventable health issues, which puts further pressure on Gaza's overburdened healthcare system. Day 3. I woke up today and I was still full from last night, so I didn't eat for a couple of hours. We found a very nice small brunch spot called @pausacoffeeandbrunch that has the most flavorful pasture raised eggs I've ever had, great coffee, pastries the whole shabang. There's a dish called Sancocho that Anthony Bourdain talks about in his traveling book, one of the few dishes he mentioned during his visits to Colombia. That's going to be the first meal of the day, tomorrow. A few hours later I felt like a Burger so we went to @elgordoyelflaco70 to get our fix. Unfortunately, I didn't do much earlier this afternoon except talk with my bank, trying to figure out why I couldn't withdraw any cash from the atm. But that all got taken care of a little later. We were expecting a storm today and a storm we definitely got. I took some shots from Dean's Airbnb window, 10 stories up ...some before, after and way after, where the clouds are practically within an arm's reach. We had a rainy food pantry last Thursday (5/2) but even in the rain, if we’re helping people, we’re happy! We had such a fantastic time at Redland Grange shopping for 428 beautiful humans. We had many great offerings in our box this week that we handed out to 148 families, 117 kids, 173 seniors, and 59 veterans! Thanks to volunteers and staff for all your hard work, and as always, a huge thank you to the Oregon Food Bank, the Clackamas Service Center, and of course Redland Grange #796 for their continued partnerships with us! It was such a gorgeous morning to have a food pantry at Redland Grange on Thursday (4/25)!! We had such a great time hanging out with everyone and serving our fantastic neighbors! From the @clackamasservicecenter, and the @oregonfoodbank, to @redlandgrange796, and our volunteers, staff, and neighbors, we want to give you all a HUGE thank you because without all of us working together, we couldn't do this every week serving participants, like the 360 people we shopped for this week!
