Joshua tree bioart restoration project in full swing! This long term experimental work is to develop a protocol for the CA department of fish and wildlife to have better success for transplanting trees into damaged areas. To do this, I am working with a community of multidisciplinary artists, my students at Reed College, mycorrhizal fungi, nurse plants, and waste materials. We are growing compostable planters to reforest burned habitats and give those little seedlings a fungal boost. My previous years of work with desert fungi coming in handy! In current gov and org restoration work, the transplant success rates for Joshua trees are sadly low (less than 10%). But we have hope with these new mutual aid transplant systems that we are developing! My persona was conceived years ago in thought, but it was not until 2020, when a new plague was young and swept across our lands, that I wanted to make the thought a physical entity. My first physical performance was October 30th of 2021. In January 2022 I was asked to open for Dave Parley (ex-Prayers) on his “Cholo Goth Night”. That night changed how I perceived who I was and what I was doing. Since February 2022, I’ve had the joy of curating and hosting COMMUNION (Phx, AZ). In June 2022 I made my out of state debut in California with the my beautiful extended family….Luna Negra! I consider myself a multi-genre performer as I have no specific style or scene I belong to as most tend to intertwine with one-another. I focus on aggressive, deep, harder and heavy beats, the older and more contemporary Industrial themed (Nitzer Ebb, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, 3TEETH, ESA, SET), but I know and understand where I am capable of going in other genres that tend to meld cohesively when prompted. My husband and I will be moving to the beautiful Coachella Valley and will be residing in Rancho Mirage within the next few months. COMMUNION will still be a vital part of my being, but we needed some change. What better place than to know I have open arms and hearts here in the valley with Luna Negra and Bart Lounge. I have family here, not just friends or acquaintances. That in itself makes me feel welcome already. Looking forward to future endeavors in southern California, and especially in my new backyard. NORTH GATE: This is the second most used gate in the National Park located in Twentynine Palms... and the Park recommended gate to use to avoid all of the traffic that 3,000,000 visitors can generate. It is a little odd though because you feel like you're doing everything backwards. 😂 We suggest you tough it out going through the West Gate so you can have all of the traffic horror stories that we have so we can bond over it. Then use the "backwards" way on your second visit to make the Park feel new again. ⬇️ We are a tiny 2-person local business and we do EVERYTHING ourselves. If not for the fact that rock climbing is insanely difficult, then for the slang alone. "Gazing at the crux, we learned we are Bumbly Gumby Gumblies." 😂 Crux: the most technically demanding section of a climb. Bumbly: a novice or incompetent climber. JTNP South Gate: Ah, the ever elusive South Gate. Most of you will never see this gate because it is too far off the beaten path. It is 61.4 Miles from the Joshua Tree Visitor Center on Park Boulevard where most visitors start their Park Journey. It is also in the Colorado (aka Sonoran) Desert where Joshua Trees do NOT grow so it is less "JTNP". But we feel it is worth the trip... to be able to take this pic as your backdrop. 😍 Plus you will be part of our Gate-to-Gate-to-Gate club.
